Saw this in IMAX theatres in 3D when it came out, what an experience! Never will forget the part where the shark swam right at the screen, mouth wide open!
That is a Gorgosaurus. Around the time of the documentary, scientific research revealed that dinosaurs didn't exactly roar like how Jurassic Park portrayed them. The most likely sounds they made were more like grunts of a crocodile. The hiss of this dinosaur in this documentary isn't even bad, I find it good for both science and presentation.
While the mosasaurs are horribly out of date at this point (they were sleeker, more shark-like in appearance, complete with tail fin), this is still one of the better paleofics ever produced (in both presentation and accuracy)
They made the environment so colorful and alive. And the CGI is absolutely on point. Too bad the documentary's soundtrack was never released, and the directors became inactive.
@@ghostoftheoldworld5104 actually though National Geographic didn't release the soundtrack/s, the composers did (years ago), and someone posted two soundtracks on TH-cam. Search it up.
I liked how the Dolichorhynchops behaved in this documentary. It was also amazing to see how after the female gives birth to her young, she takes care of them and watches them grow up, until she was eaten by the Ginsu shark that is.
ah yes, sea monsters... the source of my love for the ocean and prehistoric life, And my thalassophobia. x3 i own the doc irl and the wii and ds games. nothing makes me more happy than sea monsters existence. absolutely beautiful documentary.
Just finished watching this after months of nostalgia flooding back to me. Finally got around to finding it. There’s something about the music, and all the tropical-ness and life of the ocean of that day, and the beauty of the ups and downs of it all, that bring back such intense feeling from my childhood. Watching this on an IMAX screen in 2007-2008, and being too small to get any of it but ok to feel it all wholeheartedly, and to want to swim around those coral reefs so fucking badly. Stories and the creatures behind them have always been there. I wanna be a fucking ichthyosaur, man.
though the tylosaur model is a bit dated, and the doli and styxosaurus should be alternating their flippers, the documentary holds up amazingly well. there are so many animals that don't even get a name mention, including very brief cameos of the giant clam inoceramus at the female's death scene, and many rudists which i can't identify to the genus level. a bit bummed you don't get to see them forming reefs, as that's what they're most well-known for-- they replaced corals as the tropical cretaceous waters were too hot. anyways thats just my two cents. i watched this with my friends 10+ years ago and played the wii game a bunch, even though i couldn't get past the henodus stage due to a glitch. now i'm back here watching it again, a biology/geology student in college, because my professor posted the movie. i grew up with all this paleo media in the 2000s, and i'm now studying to become a paleontologist myself. maybe i'm stupid, pursuing a career in such a niche science. or maybe i'm dedicated. guess it's a matter of perspective.
I can’t believe I forgot about this movie, your as beautiful as the day I lost you
A perfect quote for this film.
This quote got to me
Poor Stoick
May he rest in the halls of Valhalla as a great man who just wanted his family back together 😢

@Orcaluv26 you clearly never seen the second httdy movie
The Music when our main Dolly grew up, had offspring and eventually died still gets me :')
The Circle of Life.
@@Wwr32296 yup thats the one!
I'm glad I got to see this in 3D.
Whenever I hear the music when the Dolly dies, I get titanic vibes.
I love it. I grew up watching this. Such a fascinating story. Also love the fact that Peter Gabriel wrote the score.
This is my favorite documentary of all time. I watched this all the time when I was little.
I remember seeing this way back in 2007 in IMAX. Still a good documentary.
Oh I’m gonna cry. It has been so long since I last saw this documentary and I feel like I’ve recovered a piece of my childhood
The ending is legitimate one of the saddest things i have ever scene.

I remember seeing this documentary as a little kid it always got me interested in marine reptiles and dinosaurs.
1:52 an absolutely GREAT detail: the tyrannosaurid doesn’t roar. It hisses like an alligator- just like carnivorous dinosaurs did in real life.
That is a Gorgosaurus.

@@paleoph6168 I just stated above that the Gorgosaurus ISN'T roaring. As I said, its hissing like an alligator or crocodile.
@@joshuastrittmatter4188 exactly, it is hissing.
A neat educated guess if I may say so myself
Sounds like a roar
This docu has a soul

WHY HAVEN’T THEY RELEASED THE SOUNDTRACK?!
You know what makes this special awesome!? It is narrated by Sabertooth and The Storm King himself, Liev Schreiber!

29:09 don’t forget about the male dolichorynchops, he was the firstborn of the mother, until he was a juvenile and got eaten by a tylosaurus.

I wish they released the soundtrack of this. It's so beautiful
The composers did:)
Good news: the YT channel Unreleased Score just did!

7:54 Would you look at that. Dolichorhynchops was a caring parent after giving birth to live young. What a good mom.
God this soundtrack is lovely. Especially at 7:58
so much nostalgia lol
25:31 That Tylosaur actually jump scared me.
They are clever and scary you know
Just like in 28:44

This best show
Holy shit the nostalgia

Anyone else remember the WII game? I still have it.

Amen to that, my friend.
My favorite scenes are the Tylosaurs

Thank you so much
The dollys are so fuckin cute me want one as a pet

Anyone know where I can find the full soundtrack for this film?

They look more like marlins

It's a shame they absolutely butchered this with the game, so much wasted potential...
Ikr? The game was really bad.
With the new dinosaur-simulator games these days, I'd say a reboot would be good!
This film is great though i love it.
It was so poorly designed, yet the nostalgia still makes me so fond of it.
Dose this programme have a soundtrack
maybe there might come a time when we shall have the technology to bring them back to life
