Best Dereliction version coming soon! If you do prefer Surge Slash or just not Strongarm in general simply swap the waist for Rathalos waist and then follow the skill priority list as normal with this build! The COMPLETE Sunbreak Great Sword Guide: th-cam.com/video/9DWEdyB69Ww/w-d-xo.html
I'm doing a Surge Slash Build with Dereliction 3 , Bloodrite 3 (Or 2 ) and Chameleos Rampage Deco is very fun and wonderful uptime especially with a broken monster part while Resentment 5 being active almost all the time.
Right? I came to comments to say this. It honestly kinda sucks in some ways because I'm M30 and I keep checking as I progress and not seeing enything that has the same 'great at everything' that those have. And like you said, first afflicted and bam you have the tier 10 of any kamura weapon. Been having a real hard time using anything else. Especially as a doot enjoyer, attack up, defense up, health... Yes please.
@@hankleberry I'd say another set of "well-rounded" late-game weapons are the Chameleos weapons. They all have decent raw, sharpness (and in a few cases affinity), and they all have a generous amount of slots to help make good mixed set builds and the massive poison status on most of them is a nice extra bonus cherry on top.
Been waiting for this video. World was my first entry into MH series and have played basically nothing but Greatsword. Its too cool to put down. Only on MR 2 still but glad I have a direction of what to grind for. Thanks for all the Sunbreak vids!

@@LokiHades nice bro im might give GS a shot. i was continuing my first play through from 2012 couple months ago lol and i had to make a bow build just in case i needed it haha.

When I first played Monster Hunter Rise with the longsword as I enjoyed the given parries and fun to work out to try and be untouched.... But recently, I noticed that in my group of friends, we had a Hammer but he was rarely on. We have a Heavy Bowgun but I felt like we need another heavy hitter, something that could help break parts, stun the monster and cause it to flinch, maybe even make it fall down. So I asked my experienced friends and they recommended the Great Sword. So I start moving into the aspect, making a few Great Sword and practiced its style, positioning and so forth. I enjoyed it, I enjoyed how each attack I made felt like I was chunking it, how each hit I landed caused the creature to flinch and overall, making a difference. I don't think I could go back after experiencing the joys of a Great Sword but nonetheless, thank you for the tutorial and build!!! Love you and happy hunting everyone!
Fun fact you can obtain all afflicted materials for the best decos and weapons early by queing for a random anomalous quest as it bypasses tier requirements and joins any anomalous quest regardless of your current MR, obviously your in the hands of RNjesus but since you have to grind MR anyway to unlock new quests you might as well que for randoms and get lucky
Good video but there is one issue, the RAW calculation. You see the % attack bonus only applies to the RAW of the weapon (but each stack multiplicatively) so really you would get around 15 less RAW (860 - 845) after all skills are applied together which may not seem like alot but with Greatsword the damage multipliers scale insanely and also this is forgetting about Power Sheath and PowerTalon+PowerCharm which would make the raw difference be 33 (986 - 953)
Also, If you want a quick and dirty great sword set that doesn't even require decorations or want to play classic style great sword without strong arm stance or any gimmicks, The whole Outpost HQ armor is basically "Great Sword: The Armor Set". Seriously, it has nearly every skill you'd want for Great Sword and enough slots to put in what it doesn't.
The only real thing it lacks is enough slots for Attack Boost but it's not as much of an issue when you can slot in Crit Boost and WEX super easily so you basically just live off draw attacks.
Nice set as always Josh. I made my own version of this set that includes the final boss skill and it hits like a truck but has less crit eye and a bit less attack and relies a bit on palico buffs.
Nice I am trying to get a set that could possibly utilize malzenos skill, the final bosses skill and (if i can get a talisman with it) shagarus skill. So far without a talisman i can get max malzeno and final boss and 1 level of shagarus skill.
I can’t get over how good strong arm stance is! I wasn’t into initially as I could quite get the timing and and the charged attack inputs were confusing but once you’ve worked it out, the damage is insane! Got just over 5000 damage on a wake up hit on Basel and it finished him 😂
Love this about Sunbreak. While you can use the highest damage possible you can still run what you want and still do fine. Personally I run full Malzeno with the royal order GS for a nice balance between survivability with blood rite and strong damage with purple sharpness and 70% affinity
The malzeno set is really nice. I use the 2 pieces with blood rites on them for my lance and wide gun lance build for dealing with the chip damage when blocking.

amazing vid rage love the the gs set you made it hits like a truck nd the damage numbers are glorious. could you also make a rage slash build and dereliction build please but theres so many ways to play gs with different builds that its glorious and cant wait for more amazing vids to come
I don't know why I wasn't subscribed before. I (not unlike you) have pretty much been playing Great Sword almost exclusively since Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (I'm not a true OG) but I (unlike you) have not put nearly as much time and thought into my builds because I've (at least for the last couple of games) always just watched your videos to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing. Why do the work yourself when someone else already did it for you and you could just stand on the shoulders of giants.
Ahhh, ok idk if you've actually read dereliction's description but you can regen all the lost health by just skill swapping, and as you're using the same set up on bothh effectively, it's not that bad, and you can just always do the fancy skill swap dodge to reposition and swap back, it's a super fun and agressive way to play.
It's a little different from that, you don't heal necessarily heal all your health. There are 3 stages to the buff Dereliction provides, indicated by the number of Giggis flying around you. It provides +25 attack at stage 1, and then another +5 per stage after (takes about 30-40s per stage), keep in mind the attack only applies in blue scroll so if you swap to red you'll still have to swap back to blue. Upon swapping, you reset the buff back to stage 1; in the process healing for 50 hp per extra stage (i.e. 50 at stage 2, 100 at stage 3). This also involves losing the extra +10 attack.
I like the build for the damage but I still prefer to play without. It just seems a little boring because your just using the counter for damage most of the time.
Same, i love how big and chunky the damage is but it gets boring fast to reply on just the counter the whole hunt, never fail to go unga bunga on something that's pissing me off though and it does amazing vs Espinas since it starts asleep
One thing I like about dericiction is that you can have Malzeno's skill at the same time since they're all on different armour pieces to negate it and get more than enough healing from that.
Yeah you're 100% right, the only catch is with Malzeno Chest or Waist + Dereliction you'll do less damage than this set. You need to go FULL reckless Dereliction to beat this set.
@@RageGamingVideos I certainly doubt it will be anything meta but it could be the highest damage option if you specifically want the comfort of blood rite since you can essentially ignore the health drain. Plus I very much enjoy the idea of having a super risky skill combined with a super comfort skill. Sunbreak has a lot of fun skill synergies.
Personally I'll say offensive guard is not mandatory, because the window to trigger offensive guard with strongarm is quite strict, so if you are just a casual hunter that don't spend the hours and days to master the timing, most likely you won't get it, not everyone is a speed runner so it's 100% ok, so what should we get instead of the 3 levels of offensive guard? some choice would be: 1. maxing out your wirebug whisperer; 2. ware more Malzeno armor to get that sweet blood rite, what I'm trying to say is you don't need to force yourself to play like a speed runner, a reliable and easy to use set is the way to go with your average day hunting.
While all the swords here are good, I much prefer using the Ancient Machina because it's basically the Abyss sword but without a negative affinity and little bonus of blast. I know elemental/status is a joke on GS but I play surge slash/backslide for half the fight and the AM sword can build up blast pretty quickly that way. It's just what I like.
I haven't beaten the game yet but took a look to see what crazy build you made. question though, how could I make this rage slash/ surge comfortable? I love tcs still but having a scroll with rage slash and surge feels like a good fallback when I'm hunting a monster I'm not 100% confident on. could we simply go the Rath waist option or would it be viable enough to keep offensive for the strong-arm and possibility of blocking attacks? I may goof around with sets anyways because making up armor combos is fun but, it's good to have something to say ooo big numbers
Since I'm not that comfortable with GS I mainly used the invicible GS build you did way back in high rank. Would be nice if you guys could put up something like that again
Ill be honest I was looking for a great sword single hit in normal gameplay so I could compare it to gunlance's new reset combo I'm glad it's not different since it has less uptime compared to greatsword's being a basic attack. I also want to say thank you for being the single hit showcase at the start of the video even though I'll watch the whole thing.
Is your melding pot video still a good video with sunbreak or does it need to be updated? I've never done any melding and just recently got up to Shagaru Magala and am still using the novice talisman. I'd like to be at least a bit efficient with my materials despite the rng and I have no idea how that thing works.
I have a wirebug whisperer 3 with one 3 slot, also have a Wirebug 2 with two two slots, considering switching the Lunagaron head for the Teostra head due to the first one since it has more crit eye and one crit boost meaning I can religate some of the other slots to other more important skills
Hey :) what do you think about Master rank Valstrax Armour ? Can full Valstrax Rage Slash be a thing again ? whould love to see a video compare the best Builds.
Where does the final boss armor stand in its offensive boons? Was it disqualified for its maintenance cost or was it just underwhelming in power compared to other sets. It was a bit daunting at first but I've grown to enjoy hunting with the added fire under me but if it's not bringing in optimal damage I'll have to change it up.
the squire set + S&S are locked for me, it's supposed to be unlocked after clearing follower quest "A flicker in the night" from which i need to clear quests "an audience with the queen(NOT UNLOCKED)" and "Provocking an Anjanath's wrath (DONE)", that's supposed to be unlocked from the beggining, but I don't have the "audience" quest. Maybe it's unlocked much later? I'm MR4 and that quest seems to be available from from the start..... WTF? =S
Awesome video but what is the point of doing affinity calculations? Most builds even with -20% will still be 100% crit rate anyway so wouldn't we just want higher base?.
You've gotta love the irony of the whole endgame concept here. The big complaint of Rise was there being nothing to aim for, while also having no challenge. So they rehash the beginning of the game roster, and make the tier 1 weapon the best weapon in the current game, negating the need to actually hunt any of the other harder afflicted monsters. Brilliant.
Just got to endgame, so just getting to this build - I've been able to nearly fully replicate this build without the same damage levels - does the petalace of choice matter? I've been using absolute, is there a better option for this build?
Yeah that's really solid and I've done a lot of hunts like that, sadly any set that has both dereliction & bloodrite has less damage than this set, you need to go FULL dereliction without bloodrite to do more damage.
Hi, I would like to know how to get the Fine Kamura Cleaver cauz i only see the kamura warrior cleaver+ but not the fine kamura cleaver. Could you help me pls ?
I've had a lot of fun running one scroll as recommended, with strong arm and true charge, and my other scroll with surge strike and rage slash for quicker monsters/shorter openings. Fighting Luna for example, when he enrages and starts his slashes, I like having the ability to get in a surge strike or two then swapping when goes for a single strike. Gotta admit, I forgot resentment was a thing though, before this video. Never had much cause to use it before, but you're right. Strong arm is perfect for it
Cant do it with 0 focus plus on multiplayer where it jumps alot to multiple people. I would not say its the best for general hunts. But it might be the best for solo hunts. Instead of resent and offensive i used evade extender and focus along with 3 whisperer. It helps me to wiredash sheathe/fall while still able to counter when the monsters aggro'd to me.
@@RageGamingVideos that makes sense. On a related note, do you know if other sharpness regen things (namely the HH song and Bladescale) could trigger Grinder (S) on Ibushi weapons
I'm trying to get the squire waist armor, and to do that i have to do some of fiorayne follower quest. I didn't really pay attention to that stuff from the beginning, but now I'm at a point where she's absent for the hub world and now I can't have access to her quest line. any suggestions? Do i just keep playing and hopefully i can get access to her quest?
I don't know why but despite it being just the smallest visual detail I really don't like the colour of max sharpness, maybe it's because it was purple back in mh4u and it looked better X"D Also that filter after completing quest, I wish it could be permanently turned off 😅
I feel like people need to be prepared before thinking this is godlike. For starters, it won't work on half the roster. There's a reason why monsters like Bazel keep getting picked for these videos. Too many monsters you'll never get more than 4 or 5 counters, and 3 of them are probably bomb lay offs. Be prepared for disappointment the moment you go up against Zinogre and Teo lol
Yeah no kidding. Try to strong arm everything with the majority of afflicted monsters, and you're in for some big sad. I just end up surge slashing most of the time.
@@muchhorrorsuchwow yup. This shit does NOT work on anything afflicted. I just did Royal Ludroth and there is NO time to complete a TCS counter in-between any of his moves when enraged, and barely any time when normal. At best you're gonna have to use Rage slash, or just use the non-charged strongarm for a quick lvl 3 draw charge and insta SSE away
Its more of a match up thing imo, some monsters the counter works fantastic against and you can just absolutely dominate, the Three Lords especially Garangolm, others like the angry chimp and some afflicted monsters bully the hell out of you for even trying like Goss though I kinda like it, I have to learn my positioning better and what moves I can or cant effectively counter and I get to use it more when I see those specific moves.
@@raditz1101 For sure, but I'd suggest those matchups are mor elimited than people think. I actually wouldn't bother with it on the majority of afflicted monsters. You honestly get more mileage out of using adamant / rage slash (which can do 2.5k damage itself when used after being hit), and switching to Strongarm for the traps/trips/stuns with rofflebombing TCS.
@@bladechild2449 I just find it funny LS mains complain of their weapon being nerfed when they have a new counter thats better then counter slash that instantly fills and levels your spirit guageand can be comboed into Sacred Sheath or into another counter that recharges almost instantly. Been using Long Sword and my word its more fun then in base Rise cause I have to try to be good.
I'm surprised that none of the high crit weapons made it in (Nargacuga, S. Megala, etc). I know not having a level 2 rampage slot is a loss, but I still assumed they would be somewhere in the top 10.
Can anyone explain the small bars on the sharpness meter? Do they only activate with handicraft? I can’t find the answer and it’s unclear in game help.
Is the slugger skill(stun power) not good on Great sword? I feel like i’m getting a lot of stun out of it, but i don’t know, just started on trying GS.
In my opinion, GS strength is a lot more on one time big time hits and you can get a big boy hit in basically every situation. So it would be more efficient to put more points into anything that helps with damage since stun or not, getting a big hit on a monster with it is all the same. But if you play solo more and feel you get more benefit stunning monsters with your playstyle then you do you my guy. I personally love the redirection skill so I always make sure to put that in any build even if I have to sacrifice a little damage.
Slugger+Dango Slugger means you can down monsters with tackles and sword slaps (lol) pretty easily. The uptime attacking from stuns is really good but not necessary for GS to excel. I’d put it under quality of life Solo hunting skill, and unnecessary if you have any good head-focused players in MP like Hunting Horns, Aerial Insect Glaives or hammers
Ok thanks guys. I play solo anways, so i thought the stun would help me slip in some free extra hits. I just didn’t know how effective that skill is with a great sword.
I miss using my valstrax great sword im at m4 (master wank) i really worked hard to get all the armor n stuff from val n now i gotta put it away until i can use it again :( but i like the greatsword even tho my first sword was the long one.
This is epic, but i found a sick build which takes the bloodrite and Dereliction which combo
*after latest teaser pic*
Josh: LOOKS LIKE MALZENO IS BACK ON THE MENU, BOYS!
Max out resentment, max our whisperer, any utility you want like Bloodrite or Recover Up
@@RageGamingVideos eyyyyyyyyy Josh, long live GS
RIP Focus, thanks for the work
Will you use blood rite in the upcoming inmortal build? Or do you have other plans?
I to have played Great sword since the first Monster Hunter when it dropped in 2002
Glad the final boss Greatsword is top 10 at least. Gonna use that and Gore Magala’s as my main Greatswords. Possibly Lunagaron as well
While all the swords here are good, I much prefer using the Ancient Machina because it's basically the Abyss sword but without a negative affinity and little bonus of blast. I know elemental/status is a joke on GS but I play surge slash/backslide for half the fight and the AM sword can build up blast pretty quickly that way. It's just what I like.
Dude last video you said you was going to release this build. So I stop hunting only to receive this perfection of a build 😤
The melding you unlock after final boss doesn't use any hr materials. Just meld what you have.
I have a wirebug whisperer 3 with one 3 slot, also have a Wirebug 2 with two two slots, considering switching the Lunagaron head for the Teostra head due to the first one since it has more crit eye and one crit boost meaning I can religate some of the other slots to other more important skills
I'd keep Luna helm and use the 2-2. You get 5 skills out of the helmet that way, instead of 4.
YEEEEEEES!!!! I've been waiting for this! LESSGOOOOO my fellow Big Damage BEEG number dealers.
since the second best one is a blast weapon, wouldn't garangolm skill work great with it too? maybe even surpassing the first one with the blast procs
Hey :) what do you think about Master rank Valstrax Armour ? Can full Valstrax Rage Slash be a thing again ? whould love to see a video compare the best Builds.
Don’t forget about both the powercharm/talon you keep in your inventory for more meat on the bone (+15 attack). 😊
Yo can u tell me how he’s charges into a arm strong I’m trying but can’t sorry to bother😅
Great sword isnt a fitting name anymore with the new counter its more like AMAZING SWORD
Aren't the two Synonyms with great also saying that it's Big?
Where does the final boss armor stand in its offensive boons? Was it disqualified for its maintenance cost or was it just underwhelming in power compared to other sets. It was a bit daunting at first but I've grown to enjoy hunting with the added fire under me but if it's not bringing in optimal damage I'll have to change it up.
Through most of sunbreak I used the entire golm set and the weapon because the skills it gives are good and it has soo many slots
What about Goss Harag Mail? +Resentment and a nice crit draw on top with a level 3 and level 1 slot
the squire set + S&S are locked for me, it's supposed to be unlocked after clearing follower quest "A flicker in the night" from which i need to clear quests "an audience with the queen(NOT UNLOCKED)" and "Provocking an Anjanath's wrath (DONE)", that's supposed to be unlocked from the beggining, but I don't have the "audience" quest. Maybe it's unlocked much later? I'm MR4 and that quest seems to be available from from the start..... WTF? =S
So I am curious im currently in mr 5 what do you think I should use at this time?
Awesome video but what is the point of doing affinity calculations? Most builds even with -20% will still be 100% crit rate anyway so wouldn't we just want higher base?.
Hammer main here.... so what u r saying is change offensive guard with slugger and mash their heads yes?
You've gotta love the irony of the whole endgame concept here. The big complaint of Rise was there being nothing to aim for, while also having no challenge. So they rehash the beginning of the game roster, and make the tier 1 weapon the best weapon in the current game, negating the need to actually hunt any of the other harder afflicted monsters. Brilliant.
Did the status effects get factored into the number? Cause that Magna sword lookin' fine with the blast procs.
Ok so Cotton on best hunting horn build when? Fantastic video on Great Sword, but I need info on my doot stick!
Just got to endgame, so just getting to this build - I've been able to nearly fully replicate this build without the same damage levels - does the petalace of choice matter? I've been using absolute, is there a better option for this build?
Do you have a build video for someone stuck in rise and wants to move on
brings a very manly tear to my eye
Combine dereliction with blood rite, constant aggression results in massive damage with no draw back
Yeah that's really solid and I've done a lot of hunts like that, sadly any set that has both dereliction & bloodrite has less damage than this set, you need to go FULL dereliction without bloodrite to do more damage.
Isn't the Kaiser crown x better than the lunagaron helm?
Yes but it doesn't have WB whisperer, which gives you access to strongarm which is OP as fuck
I just love Surge too much not to use it. It's a more forgiving playstyle IMO, and it lets you get a lot of cheeky punishing/crit draw attacks in.
I really wish in school that when I said “I don’t wanna do math, it sucks, why do I have to do this”
Teacher “because monster hunter”
Am excited to see what the new immortality build looks like with all the new stuff
It's gonna be good!
Strong arm is perfect for it
Since strongarm slash counts as a block, would that make the defense grinder rampage deco worth using to resharpen during combat? Or is it not viable?
It restores such a tiny amount of damage its not worth losing the +5 or +10% damage from then Anti-monster decos.
Do this build recomend to dual blade?
Cant do it with 0 focus plus on multiplayer where it jumps alot to multiple people. I would not say its the best for general hunts. But it might be the best for solo hunts.
Instead of resent and offensive i used evade extender and focus along with 3 whisperer. It helps me to wiredash sheathe/fall while still able to counter when the monsters aggro'd to me.
and here i am, using Shagaru Magala greatsword for style points :D
i doubt it would be meta but do you think you can do something at a pretty good level by using an ibushi GS with Grinder (S)?
I looked into that a lot and while the damage is great its SO awkward to play.
@@RageGamingVideos that makes sense. On a related note, do you know if other sharpness regen things (namely the HH song and Bladescale) could trigger Grinder (S) on Ibushi weapons
I dunno why, but sometimes I do 10k+ damage to sleeping (wake up TCS)… and I can’t replicate it.
So is it the expert and crit jewels for the sword or the two furor for the best damage?
I'm trying to get the squire waist armor, and to do that i have to do some of fiorayne follower quest. I didn't really pay attention to that stuff from the beginning, but now I'm at a point where she's absent for the hub world and now I can't have access to her quest line. any suggestions? Do i just keep playing and hopefully i can get access to her quest?
My L'Origine...dead before it even had a chance with no Gem slots... :(
Great idea but I enjoy free meal too much, I gotta work that in haha
I don't know why but despite it being just the smallest visual detail I really don't like the colour of max sharpness, maybe it's because it was purple back in mh4u and it looked better X"D Also that filter after completing quest, I wish it could be permanently turned off 😅
IS IT ME OR DOES THIS GUY REMIND ME ROBIN FROM TEEN TITANS GO!! either way love the videos!!
What is the name of the layered armor you are using?
Tbf damage is the best way to play great sword it’s its number 1 purpose
What's the materials you need for the Kumura GS?
Afflicted pelt for the final upgrade, its only avaliable past MR 10
@@raditz1101 what monster is that is it just the affected monsters?
I actually got a Crit Eye 3/Handicraft 1 2-0-0 during base Rise.
It was fate 🗿
N i cant hunt gore magala yet cause im not at that rank yet. Thx for the builds tho their helping it just feels like im starting over
i would love to see a Dereliction build as ive been messing around with it and wonna see how close i got to perfect
The sword of the century
But wait, how were you making them randomly fall asleep in the beginning of the video?
