Cadbury - Cadbury Land (1998, UK)

- I know this was already uploaded to TH-cam, but since PIFMan092's been doing the same thing I thought I'd copy. In this ad, an odd-sounding boy named Dudley Sidebottom discovers the quirky, chocolatey world that lies beneath his local sweet shop. The voices were done by Neville John "Noddy" Holder of Slade, and the animation was done by John Kricfalusi (Ren & Stimpy, George Liquor, that Simpsons couch gag) and the good folks at Spümcø. Even he apparently forgot about this ad.
web.archive.org...
I uploaded this because these mascots are very unique, but none of their other ads have been uploaded by anyone. I've search many ad breaks uploaded to TH-cam, but none to be found. More people remember the Yowies. The ads I do remember were four ads starring Giant Buttons, an older counterpart to the Buttons character, and one where the gang were playing hide-and-seek (I think). These ads were done by other studios. I just think these characters need more attention.
Dudley Sidebottom was then sent to rehab for ten years to battle his LSD addiction.
As one of the guys who created the characters and wrote the ads, this came as a shock to me. This version was actually a rough edit that we used to time the Voice over script to. As someone pointed out - the final edit did have more words. This is a rarity!
any copies of the normal version?
That was a bit of a laugh, wasn't it?
0:18 Curly Wurly Grows Cadbury's Cruly Wurlys'
0:24 Fudge Fires Cadbury Fudge Fingers
0:25 Which Is A Problem For Wildlife, Who Tries To Sculpture His Cadbury's Wild Life Bars
0:32 Buttons Cuts Out Millions Of Cadbury's Buttons
0:42 But Chomp With His Cadbury's Chomp Bars Sometimes Bites Off More Than He Can Chew
And They All Live Together In CADBURY LAND
There actually used to be a attraction at Cadburyland, starring these characters.
It was replaced with the Marvellous Creations attraction sometime after the Kraft buyout.
I still remember "press your magic button everybody"! (the buttons seemingly did nothing) and "that was a bit of a laff - oh wasn't it - that was a bit of a laff" repeated infinitely as the closing song.
I always like the little chocolate button-making girl. She's pretty, cute and sweet. Got more of these?
She is pretty, cute and sweet, especially when she laughs.
I like the fact that Chomp is a big, friendly, furry, gentle monster.
I've had the red guy on a rubber for as long as I can remember and always wondered where the character came from (other than Cadbury land). I guess now I know
I know right. I knew he was the mascot for Cadbury Fudge. I used to see him on all the fudge products as a little kid.
He's speaking with a Black Country accent, the voice is done by Noddy Holder from the band Slade. Google it :)
How could I forget this advert! When I finally watched it for the first time in years, its art style looked familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it...
I seem to remember a version of this with more narration.
I remember a version where Dudley's voice was different.
Arnold and Helga got married, moved to England and had a son named Dudley
While Kricfalusi may have animated it, and there are a few artifacts of Spumco-news, he definitely didn’t direct it.
I think Aaron Springer (Who worked for Spümcø in the late 90s) directed it. I can see a bit of his Frazetta-inspired style seen on Korgoth and Billy Dilley.
Please keep looking. I really like Buttons and like to see the other ads where she plays hide and seek please.
you sound like a nonce
@@cutetrapchicken I AM NOT A NONCE! I just like puppy-love a lot for it's more positive than boys & girls trying to outdo each other in a which gender is better than whom. Besides I think it's romantic
@@hermanstapelberg871 its a child mate calm down
@@cutetrapchicken Oh. I thought it was an insult when I looked up for its meaning Sorry then if I shouted.
@@hermanstapelberg871 it was, stop obsessing over kids

'Like the Aoki commercial, this one was aired in a foreign land (England), and it has a line in a strange tongue... "Eeeee... Dat wud a bit of a laff wudn't it?" Don't ask us what it means.'
Sounds like John wasn't too big on doing ads for foreign clients.
@@ChristopherSobieniak John K is a bloody nonce.
This should have been a series, who agrees with me on this?
Sounds like he is trying to speak Italian.
@Cartoonothing It ain't right to judge a Spumco creation, kid...
Imagine if this was in Super Mario 64... Boy, oh boy. (BTW, SM64 is my favourite game ever.)
sweet shops in Liverpool are bizarre and they are only next store to us (I live near Manchester)!
+MERKFLAMES okay /:-/
John k made is commercial and it’s terrifying 😨😨😨😨
Cadbury Land is fun and they made an active effort to not have it be too commercial and also to have some things that catered to adults. However you need to have a childish mind to enjoy it.
0:55 Dudley:- That Was A Bit Of A Laugh Wasn't It
I remember this having a different narrator and a lot more talking.
The red man's dance got me grinning, it's so dumb!😆
I remember this but the one I remember had more narration.
You did? How was the script like? Were characters talking or the narrator?
@@richardallen3156 It was the narrator speaking and he was describing all the characters.
Given Spumco's involvement on this, it wouldn't surprise me people can't tell it's there too easily given the way the ad was produced. The design of the main character certainly wasn't there's and they had to make due with whatever the ad agency probably sent them script-wise. The character himself only lasted a few years according to this.

*imitating Stimpy* Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!
I wonder if Jim Smith played the guitar for this commercial.
@jacksrumgone Who?
@HallOfAdvertising The kid at the end. 0:55 It sounds like Italian or Mexician.
That green guy looks like the lorax.
I think there was a lot more than chocolate in that bar.
@Cartoonothing It's best to read the description...
This is a reminder that John Kricfalusi is a creep. Seriously.
