Accent isn't the issue mate. It's just the fluency that people need to work on and that's enough tbh. Stop talking about accents. Accents don't make a difference, they add to the uniqueness which makes you who you are which you should accept!
@@IELTSDaily thanks for all valuable information that you provide ..I had some eye- opening ideas from your chanal .so I Express my heartfelt gratitude ❤
I have a question, in 6:00, the good sentence example put up was " If I would to finally move out by myself." It sounds really weird and the "to finally move" is a split infinitive.
So is it a mistake or am I wrong, another is thank you for this video. I am having the IELTS speaking test tomorrow and I believe this will help me a lot.
hey, Chris! Excited to tell you I got a 7.5 in my speaking! overall 8 band :D I gotta tell you this speaking format of your series really helps visualize how the real test would be and it was comfortable. I think I lost some band when it came to vocab since I didn't use any big words. I thought using them would throw me off and mess with my fluency but I am really happy with this score! thank you so much!
I'm from Singapore and I would say the way she talks and the vocab she uses are very typical of us here in Singapore. But just a note, here in Singapore we speak English on a daily basis and the whole education system from primary school to high school is taught in English including subjects like math, econs etc. Most of us are better at English than our own mother tongue so we are not really non-native speakers LOL
However, her speaking skill is better than most of the Singaporeans in general . The pronunciation is different. She can speak with the native accent like British, American or Australia . Not typical Singaporean’s Chinese-English accent which is difficult to understand.
My tutor told me to avoid words like " you know", "uhm", "hmm", "like", "kinda stuff" because these are called "fillers" which may give a negative impression on the interviewer. But you seem to be advocating to use these. Its pretty confusing. :( . I also want to get 8.5 band in speaking. I am practicing..
I think, most of his students are not living in their own countries when they attended these interviews. It looks like, they took IELTS from English speaking countries based on their accent. Usually native Singapore or Srilankan candidates won't get that kind of slang easily. Nonetheless the mock tests were great!
I'm so glad that most young Singaporeans can get a score of 8.5 in the eyes of Australians! Her GCE 'O' level English result should be sufficient to exempt her from IELTS, though. Well done, my fellow Singaporean! :)

When I took the exam I tried to speak more accurately than making my speech sound more natural and I avoided using like, you know, etc but it’s interesting to learn that those are good points
The fact that she misses her ‘d’s, is akin to how aussies tend to pronounce ‘aa’s as ‘ah’s instead. So should one be punished for their own native accents rather than allowing one to celebrate it as part of their innate culture identity.
The question is very pertinent (if it was, indeed, a question). There is a fine line between what is 'acceptable/celebrated' to what should be noted as a slip. Consider an Irish person who pronounces 'three' as 'tree', this would be very likely be marked down by an examiner because "th" is not normally pronounced as "ch". Or a British English speaker who says "wiv" rather than "with". It's such a hard question as language is so changeable. Ultimately, though, as this is language assessment, there should be benchmarks and so our advice to students is to keep being themselves in every day life, but on the test day, try to exaggerate a little.
