I bought a BG 3000 last July. Great reel. I use it for fresh water. Bass, stripe, blue gill, trout. What ever you throw at it, the BG excels. What size leader do you use with your 30 pound braid?
I saw where the handle knob broke on your recent video . But after 5 year's it did great! Nothing a $35 gomexus handle cant fix. Have two 4000s and one 2500 and absolutely love them !
Im going to the OBX next week and i ought this reel combo as a 2nd rod to use. I am going to fish the Point Down there and Avon Pier. Braided line is very much frowned upon at these places and wanted to ask you what pound mono would you recommend me spooling this reel with ? Thank you in advance.
Depends on what fish you’re fishing for. But for a reel about this size, I would be spooling up with 20lb max. When I fish the point I use 17-20lb mono for the drum. On the pier, I usually roll with 20 and 40/50lb shock leader. If your bombing off the pier, beach or whatever, most likely you will need a 7oz or more to hold bottom. When throwing such heavy lead, you want the shock leader. Shock knots can be a little wonky on spinning rods. Shock leader will be able to throw heavy lead safer and also will help you out when getting your catch closer to being landed. Good luck to ya and let me know if you have any other questions.
I prefer them over Penn Battle just because I own more of them and have used them for much longer. Outside of that, my Penn Battles have been great too. If there was a battle and a bg sitting beside each other and was given one, it’d be a hard choice but ultimately would take the BG.
Without a doubt. Have friends that target large Virginia Muskie and the bg handles it no problem. They use 20lb braid but you can horse em a bit more with 40 without giving up much line capacity.
Question for you I recently went on a head boat using a BG MQ 4000D had a problem it was difficult bringing in the line I was using a 4 or 5 oz spro with a glass minnow teaser with no fish on it do you think there could be a problem with the reel used it once before for black fish
If it wasn’t having the issue prior, then something may have happened to the reel. MQ series are great solid reels. Are you using different line than before? Could be as simple as using too thick of a diameter of line than the reel is meant for. Is it making new noises? How does the reel turn without any load on it?
Hey zach i am a big fan of your vids. Im new to makin fishing content on youtube. Do you think its possible for you to give me some pointers on content creation and tips of this content creating world. Please. Life is hard rn and this is what makes me happy.
Thanks man! Very much appreciated. I remember you bro 😎 Life will always throw curveballs but fishing has always seemed to help. Trust me, I’m no content pro but I’d be happy to help!
That’s a good question with a lot of answers. So simplify it, advancement in fishing is just doing that. Fishing. Learn as much as you can from anyone especially when traveling. It’s like anything, the more you do it and expand the better off you become. More well rounded. A person who says they know it all actually doesn’t know much, while the guy who knows the most will say they have barely scratched the surface. As far as getting your name out there. I honestly dont promote myself much. Every now and then I’ll add a post to a fb page but just make sure you are consistent. That’s something I need to work on.
For sure. Depends on what type of fish you are targeting and depth, but for the short answer, yes. If I was to buy one for that purpose, I’d most likely get a 5k.
My honest review? Don’t go past 4500, the 5K is heavy as hell and in 2024 you’d do way better to save money and get like a reel that features MQ, or Zaion V bodied cause they’re 1/3rd the weight. (Procyon MQ will give you wet dreams about fishing) Wouldn’t spend the money for anything under a 2000 size, could save and get something cheaper that can do the same. But the 3000/4500 will completely handle fishing lures up to 1-1/2oz no problem. Casts super far compared to anything in its price range from its era. The gear ratio is fast for a spinner so it makes for great action on paddle tails and swim baits. Great all around reel I own like 5 of and avidly use.

Hahaha yeah man, she finally gave way. I’ll find something to put on it and keep it moving! Hope all is well Dylan
Weve also met on buckroe pier before idont know if you remember of not. But yea imma big fan
My Stradics from 1992-1998 are still running smoothly. I'm switching to BG because it has an anti-reverse switch to allow backreeling.
I have a 2500 4000 5000 6500 and an 8000 i love them have had them for years with minimal issues
What rod did you use with the reel the 9 ft? I’m planning on getting the bg 4000 I just need a 9ft rod to pair with it

Thank you so much for your answer, it is greatly appreciated. Have a great night.
Im thinking about taking my new bg 4000 to Cabo for some Dorado fishing, would that line size hold up?
Love our 4 BG reels.
You got us into the BG reels.
You got a family of em! I’ll be restocking soon :) I’d like to keep 3 or 4 in the arsenal
Sounds like a battle tested reel, would u prefer this reel over a Penn Battle 3 4000HS?

I'm seriously looking at this reel for Muskie fishing. Do you think it would handle a 35lb Muskie with 40lb braid?

@@ZackBostick thanks zach. My names jr by the way. But the main question i have is how to get my name out there. And how to advance myself in fishing.

For sure. Depends on what type of fish you are targeting and depth, but for the short answer, yes. If I was to buy one for that purpose, I’d most likely get a 5k.
