I googled open jar lid and this helped me eat my tosito chips at 3am with Nuevo Tex Mex sauce. But damn, it's 2018 and we still have jars like this? Come on..

The best way to open a jar (without ruining the lid by bending it) is the turn the jar upside down with the lid on a hard and flat surface (like tile, linoleum, stone counters etc. Not something soft or that can damage like wooden floors). With the jar in both hands smack the lid flat against the hard surface several times with force (don't break the jar). The pressure of the air in the jar will change suddenly as the lid hits the surface and the food inside moves. The lid will pop off easily afterwards. If you get good you just have the hit the lid once on the surface and you can open it. I had to open more than 200 super large pickle jars for volunteer events. Works everytime, even with sticky lids for previously used jam jars.

Holy ***! That worked so incredibly and amazingly easily! Put the spoon in the edge, and barely had to move it to hear the "pop"! Brilliant. This is the best method by far. Can't believe I made it to my age without knowing this.

I tried every one of these, even tried boiling water, but there was just this one jar that was just SO stubborn, and it was only until I broke the actual lid itself that the seal broke. Boy, that was an experience.
Just get a spoon, PRY open under the lid, easy peasy, NO long process
@normanocampo4466 thank u man, finally opened my ginger garlic paste jar with the spoon...I tried heating the lid, plastic, tried to get a better grip none of them worked except for the spoon lever mechanism
The wooden spoon method worked like a charm and it saved me from losing my mind while being terribly hungry.

I’m really grateful for this video. the metal spoon tactic helps me to open the jar easily without exerting that much strength. The only thing i did different was, i place the jar upside down and use the metal spoon to push the trapped air out
Or you could use the ancient Asian method of using the clothes you're wearing for better grip

Edit: also if plastic wrap and hot water doesn't work then bang the lid on like a table or something and it will eventually work! Just try not to break the jar! Right as i was about to get the hammer i saw a comment about this and i tried it. I finally got it to open! but now my toast is cold too...

Helpful. We made pickles and I couldn’t get the lid open with a rubber circular hand mat made for this, so I tried dishwashing gloves and it worked! Some materials grip better than others. Gratitude!

Its really nice to see even young strong guys have trouble opening these dang lids. I am a senior lady and not being able to open a lid made me feel like I was losing it.

I had to make pasta and could not get the jar of sauce opened! Watched this video out of sheer hopelessness, tried the rubber band trick, didn't work. Then I tried the wooden spoon method and OMG the lid came off so easily. This video saved my dinner :')
I tried a combo of these methods for a stubborn pasta sauce jar - I ran it under water for 30 seconds and then started tapping on the side of the jar with a wooden spoon and it popped right off. Much better than looking like an idiot while trying to open the jar with my puny muscles. Thanks Tech Insider!

Worked like a charm! I accidentally closed the cap of my the ordinary ascorbic acid powder ( vitamin c) in which obviously I couldn't use heat, as vitamin c can oxidize; so I wrapped a hair tie around the cap & twisted it. It opened so easily. 😍👌🏻

Try using a butte ett knife and try hitting the side of the lid against the table about 18 time then use the knife works nicely

whiterondo34 I'm left handed, so it didn't annoy me at all.
I'm right handed, but, believe me, it's easier to hug the jar to your chest with your right hand and twist with your left. Keep your shoulders low, elbows high and forward, and your neck long. They should teach this in yoga.
