    Another avenue for some would be to do a trade in purchase through a Credit Union, even if you're not buying a car from them. The concierge service through Autoland or Autonation has been fantastic for us. You submit your request, appraisal form, and pictures (COVID times), and they send away for multiple auction offers. They then present you with the highest offer. Take it or leave it. The other advantage here is that they take care of all or your DMV tasks for the trade/sell as well.

      Are you selling that a potential seller could sell their vehicle through Autoland or Autonation? I never heard of that but if true, that sounds good.

I have NEVER used a car as a trade in, you can make double or more selling it yourself. Carvana and carmax prices are too high, can do better without their services!

    I've bought cars from private party, but am not a fan of selling to them. I had a guy that wanted my 85 Buick. This was back in the early 90's.
    He wanted the dealer to check it out. The dealer said the trans was bad and the guy didn't want the car. He also didn't want to pay for the dealer to check out the car. The dealer didn't care, because he had my car and my keys and neither were leaving till that bill was paid.
    He agreed to split the difference and I did it. Paid a $75 bill so I couldn't sell my car. I told that guy he was a POS, but I don't think he believed me.

    👍 on the vid. My quote from Carvana was far less than I was expecting. I then searched and found my car in my area w similar miles, features, trim level and they were selling for $7-9K more than they offered me. That's a 43-56% gross profit over what they offered me. I dont think so. I'll submit to vroom, but likely will be going the private route as I'd rather not leave money on the table. thanks guys

    I bought a new 2020 Kia Optima S on Feb 29th right before the pandemic. I always pay cash for my cars and have learned how to tell if the dealership is willing to work a deal or not for cash. Anyway, I paid $20,500 with sticker being $26,390 and then a month later no longer needing it because of the pandemic. Now, I am selling it to Carvanna, as they have offered me the most. Accepted the deal today, they are picking it up Tuesday. It has low miles 5456 and still perfect. They are suppose to wire the money in 1-2 days after they pick it up. Hope yours goes well, let us know.

    • @bubus109
      @bubus109 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think so! Compare the offer carvana, carmax or vroom give you to what they have listed for sale on their websites. For example carmax gave me the best offer of $26,600 for my car and on their site the cheapest one they have listed is $30k for my make/model/year/miles, seems like a reasonable margin. I think vroom didn’t take into account the COVID micropchip shortage and they offered me 22k, that’s how much it was going for last year before the shortage!

    I’ve always found that selling a car to a private party to be much less aggravation than going through the games played at the dealer. I spend a couple of hours detailing my vehicle. Most often the first person to look at it in person made the purchase. If needed for your level of comfort, you can always make the financial transaction in the lobby of a bank. Cash for the pink slip captured on video. A little bit of work is worth thousands over what the dealer offers.

    • @shawnfrey
      @shawnfrey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @paulbingville6485
      @paulbingville6485 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Your level of comfort may also depend on the value of the car you're selling. Cash at your bank is definitely the safest because, if the bank accepts it for deposit, you've eliminated any possibility of the bills being counterfeit. However, I don't know about you, but while I might be willing to bring cash to buy a $5,000 car I wouldn't walk around with $20,000 or more in cash and I doubt may buyers would. As for taking a check, unless you do the deal at the buyer's bank and cash his check there immediately there's always the chance you'll get a call from your bank a few days later telling you it bounced.

    This was very straight forward information from you both! Thanks! While I agree that you usually can get more from a private party sale there is also a lot that can go wrong as well. Trading to a dealer is easy but usually dumb. Selling to CarMax, Carvana, Vroom is easy and safe. So private party if you have time, a bit of sales speak, and are confident you will get your money in the end. I figure this is why most folks trade!

    I get online has no real eyes to make decisions. That’s their problem.
    I like dealerships. I like the process. It’s also a fun place to try out new tactics on strategy especially on the finance guy. This new one has been fun. When I get a question I look them in the eyes and count to 7 in my head. The room goes cold before I answer. The questions stop.

    My Extra-cab F150 is 13 years old, 163,000 miles, transmission won't shift from P to D (have to go to 2 first, then D, otherwise works fine), scratches all over the paint, rear seat belts got chewed up by the dog. I don't have the energy to deal with a private sale. A junk car buyer offered 1300 for it. Should I even take it to the dealer to see what they offer? Or just junk it?

    • @garwig2
      @garwig2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Following up in case it helps anyone, I did take the truck to the dealer and they first offered me $1200 for it, which I would have accepted. Then as we were negotiating the price of the new car I told them I'd go up $800 on the price of the new car if they would go up $800 on the trade-in. Surprisingly, they took it and I ended up getting $2000 for the old truck. So yes, it was worth the embarrassment to take a clunker into a dealer to see what they offer, it was good to have it available as a negotiating tool.

    • @phlydude
      @phlydude 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vroom was higher for me than Carvana and Carmax - I had an old Nissan Titan that needed a lot of work and it wasn't worth much with 263k on it - Vroom gave me an offer and a neighbor's BIL matched it. Engine and trans in great shape, everything else, not so much being a mid-Atlantic truck for 11 years where is racked up most of the miles via highway driving. Rust galore...

    Video on tastefully-done aftermarket lift kit, wheels and tires on a truck.
    1. Why dealers don't place value on them?
    2. Why dealers charge 10k more when they sell them?
    Private party sale = $22k
    Dealer sale of same truck = $31k

    Hey guys. Great info. Just sold my 2014 Audi A4 in a private sale last weekend. I barely drove it and it was in great shape with some custom touches, e.g. wheels, etc. I went to Carvana 1st and they offered me 12K. I sold it myself 3 days later for $17,250 which was more in-line with KBB. I didn't expect such a low offer. Perhaps I should have looked at Carvana.
