@@denisnamisnak4980 Honestly I been informed by an member of the FDNY, they tired to contact some of the lithium ion battery companies to see what they can do to extinguish the flames and such and got little information they asked for more but allegedly were referenced to their lawyers. Currently at my dept, we recently purchased a large fire blanket to contain large car fire with lithium ion battries due to the nature of the fire it can't be extinguish like a normal car fire. I ain't an engineer and stuff so I don't all the details. But this is what I've been told thus far, right now however our biggest concern is knock offs and cheaper batteries

Even driver/ic can be faulty. Most common cause is not grounded properly. Or the voltage is too high.
And if you buy imported vehicles, the voltage requirement might not match.

    Reasons batteries catch fire
    1. Leaving the charger on too long. Use a shut off timer.
    2. Not using the charger that was supplied with the bike. Such as a high speed charger.
    3. Buying a cheap aftermarket battery. Stick with the same replacement battery that came with the bike.
    4. Do not use the battery if it has been damaged or gets hot.

I have been playing with building e-bikes for 5 plus years, I have never had one battery fire. I own 7 e-bikes now all out in the shop with extra batteries on hand. I could not say why suddenly some folks have fire bombs for bikes. A few things I can think of is homemade batteries, homemade battery with no BMS wrong kind of battery charger, charger for a higher voltage. Leaving your e-bike outside 24/7, Plugging in the charger to the bike before plugging the charger to the wall. I practice none of that and have had no fires at all. Even had one guys battery get slit by the back tire one cell scorched but BMS shut it down. No Fire. I would say the worse thing is to drop any battery but that is not the issue.

Could not agree with you more, you don't have a battery fire up to the moment you have a battery fire. You also don't have car accidents up until the moment you have a car accident, you also don't break your leg until the moment you break your leg, etc.. I agree with you totally with the obvious statement that in the entire period until the first time an event occurs, it does not occur at all. But that does not mean that an unsafe device will never ever catch fire and that is what is being discussed here.

Actually lithium ion batteries only lose 3 percent of the full charge when stored unlike a lead acid battery that will die completely in days without trickle feed charging. But the proper chargers make the difference. a 36 volt lithium ion battery's charger is rated to 42 volts max while a 48 volt charger is rated to 54.5 volts max charge. trying to use a charger for a lead acid battery on a lithium ion will result in fires.

Ordinarily, a properly wired BMS controller wired into the battery pack will prevent overcharge.
The problem is a lot of vendors misrepresent the claims of their batteries, including the very presence of BMS controllers as well as the maximum current and rating of the cells used.
Chinese vendors have been known to swap out Li-ion cells for "sand batteries," for instance.
There have been instances where a BMS was advertised but either not physically included (you have to peel the casing off the battery, so most people wont ever know), or was included but not rated appropriately for the pack in question so it ends up failing.
This is why I buy packs from OEMs who supply batteries for larger e-scooter/e-bike brands who sell to the "brick and mortar" _big-box_ stores (like Razor, Segway, TurboAnt, Swagtron, etc.) whenever I finally power-up the e-scooters I build.
Those batteries have to meet all US consumer-safety standards in order to get sold, whereas the heat-shrink wrap packs you'll find on Amazon or AliExpress under a variety of brands never face scrutiny from regulators.
