A 16 year old can look like Zendaya. There is a young actress in my daughter's theater class that looks similar. My own daughter's complaint now that she's nearly 18, is that she still looks like she's 12.
She said she looks the same way she did when she was 16. And she actually does, if you look at her throwbacks over the years, she hasn't changed much or even at all.

I think black girls tend to look a little mature when they're younger... they have more structured cheekbones and whatnot. My 10 year old is as tall as her 10 year old friends but her face has the defined features of a teenager, so I could definitely buy Zendaya as a 16 year old.

Zenday doesn’t look 16 either, but Hollywood likes to hyper sexualize what a teenager, especially girl, should look like. That’s not to say at all she’s not beautiful or youthful looking, but she’s not 16 looking. She’s far more womanly than a child.
There are sixteen year olds who look like her though. Sure, some may look older or younger, but saying she could pull of a sixteen year old isn't completely out of the question. I'd say it's more how she presents herself, she's more open and confident than most teens (which makes sense since she's been doing this stuff since she was a kid).
As someone who also looks younger than I am, I get the struggle. Yes, it’s advantageous in some ways, but having someone be surprised that I’m old enough to drive is not what you want to hear when you’re old enough to drink.

I went on a trip to Miami with a bunch of friends and my boyfriend(now husband). I was a home owner and had been working in corporate for about 4 years. At the airport I was selected for the pat down because my clothing had metal in it. The agent was calming and sweet saying, “don’t worry you’re not in trouble”. I’m thinking, “ wow she’s really nice”. Then she said, “where are your parents sweetheart”. all my friends busted out laughing. My face got so red because this happened in full view of the airport. She said she thought I was about 14 years old. Lmfao almost 20 years later and we still laugh about it.

That was my experience. I had my first child at 25 and scared the hell out of an old lady when my baby woke up and moved in the grocery store. She thought he was one of those dolls the kids use for class in high school. I had my third baby at 29, and a Walmart employee reprimanded me for having so many babies "so soon". One of the reasons Hollywood is obsessed with being thin is because it makes you looking young. A lot of child/ teen actors have restricted diets to stay small and I would say Zendaya has the same thing even if she tries to show the public that she eats. I have this too. I'm 38 but people in their late 20s think they're older than me sometimes. As one who worked retail until recently, this didn't always work to my benefit. Having to card people and then the common, but I'm older than you line was tiring. I proved to countless people with my ID I was older than they thought. Tons of people get offended when someone they're convinced is younger than they are is carding them. To put it simply, looking younger than your age isn't always a good thing.

It took them 10 minutes to get through all of the people they came straight to us to put us out. Mind you these was Atlanta PD. I have this too. I'm 38 but people in their late 20s think they're older than me sometimes. As one who worked retail until recently, this didn't always work to my benefit. Having to card people and then the common, but I'm older than you line was tiring. I proved to countless people with my ID I was older than they thought. It took them 10 minutes to get through all of the people they came straight to us to put us out. Mind you these was Atlanta PD. Speaking of age, everyone can look younger and older no matter what age they are. I'm Asian, so Asian baby genes and all. And when I was 17, people did mistake me for 15 years old. So when I thought I still looked 15 at 22, that's when I got told by others that they think I look 18-20 now and that was a real slap to the face that I look older now lol your perception of yourself can be so different to what others see of you. Definitely ask others how old THEY think you look. You'll get a quick reality check lul

For the people who seem confused or saying that's because we don't know what teenagers look like.
She literally stated that she still plays a teenager sometimes because she still looks the same as she did when she was 16 and she's not lying look at her when she was on Disney and look at her now she does basically look the same she hasn't changed very much and there are certain actors and actresses that can pull this off because they don't really age much like them and their teenage years and them and they're like 20s up until probably their mid-30s they don't look any different so they're able to still play teenagers look at Anne Hathaway.
She was also someone who was able to play off a teenager well into her twenties. Some people just look the same from their teenage Hood to their 20s not to mention I feel like some people forget that when puberty and stuff hits is different for everyone in terms of like their physical appearance changing. Like I had friends when they hit 15 they looked older than most 15 year olds and then myself and a couple of my friends we consistently would get mistaken for middle schoolers while we were in high school.
As someone who went to an elementary middle high for high school and would constantly get stopped in the hallways buy security for being in the wrong area because they thought I was in middle school and then someone who is now in their twenties and still get id'd like if I want to go to a bar or sometimes I'll go take my grandparents to the casino because they like going there I get ID because I look younger than I am that's just how some people are.
