Forgot to mention in the video that Surgical Extraction is also an answer to Emrakul, Aeon's Torn. Many decks play 1 copy in the sideboard and bring it in against Mill, because if you mill through an Emrakul it shuffles the graveyard back into the library. So you need Surgical Extraction to exile Emrakul.
Most modern mill players, like myself also put 4x Soul-Guide Lantern in our sideboards and side them in. When the Shuffle Eldrazi hits the grave, tap SGL to exile the Eldrazi & the rest of the graveyard. 😉
I am looking into modern, what I built is a pioneer mill. Centers around teferi's tutelage and a lot of draw. Finisher is a peer into the abyss. I would like to turn it into a modern but don't know were to start
Oh, I'll have to pin a comment, because I forgot to mention in the video that is another utility of Surgical Extraction. People play 1 copy of Emrakul in their sideboard so they can bring it in against mill, so you can name it with Surgical Extraction and exile it from their deck before it shuffles itself back in.
@GURKENGOTT Nope, Put 4x Soul-Guide Lantern in your sideboard and side them in. When the Shuffle Eldrazi hits the grave, tap SGL to exile the Eldrazi & the rest of the graveyard. 😉
@@AffinityforMTG also you say both in the video & in this comment that you can simply “name a card” with surgical extraction…but that is a bit misleading. You have to target a card in a graveyard. 1 mana Unmoored Ego would be nice tho lol. Great intro video otherwise tho fam 👌🏾
@@jossmcalister9166 yeah emmy hits the graveyard. Surgical Extraction isn’t a good answer to it though because the graveyard will still shuffle back in, regardless if you exile Emmy with Surgical or not. Soul-guide lantern (and other effects like it) are a WAY better answer for Emmy, Endurance, etc.
Yeah, I was surprised how expensive Hedron Crab has gotten over the past several months. It was always one of those weird $2-$3 commons but it was nearly $40 for a playset not long ago. o.o

Dimir Mill sounds so boring and exciting at the same time!! Being Tier 1, is amazing!
One card I’m wondering why isn’t shown in the deck lists anymore is Glimpse The Unthinkable
(B)(U) Target opponent mills 10 cards
Add: x4 FRAYING SANITY'S,
X4 BRUVAC'S & X4 VISION'S OF BEYOND...
Great deck guide, but I would also mention Scheming Symmetries as a card some Dimir Mill players (including myself) love to play with Archive Trap.

If the opponent plays a card that shuffles itself and their whole grave back into the deck (like that one eldrazi), do you just straight up lose?

@@oldwaysdre to be fair emrakul does hit the gy right? It's not a replacement but a state based action. I think.

Fetchland are...ugh. But Crabs are damn expensive! I think they are fit for a reprint since they are commons.
