The Bennnnnn thing is clearly an ARG and the developers have to be in on it. Their denials are part of the ruse, to add credibility to their story of a deranged programmer leaving cryptic messages all over the place. Hell, it's good publicity.
A 5 year long ARG with extremely rare updates and overly cryptic hints? No. The last update before the one in February was over two years prior.
The people who are still investigating got into contact with the Benedict and dude only answered questions in extremely cryptic language. Idk who Ben is, but he's most definitely NOT connected to the devs any longer.

The Ben and Ed one is almost certainly an ARG. The developers go to the spooky abandoned building in the middle of the night which is just kinda weird. Almost anyone else in that situation would go during the day for better visibility. And to put a cherry on top of the whole thing they actually do hear spooky stuff which results in them running from the scene. It's all too cliché to be an accident.

I was a Bers fan when those videos were being uploaded and i followed the whole thing. I noticed a weird thing tho, they found out about the spooky building while on Germany, but before going there he had released a video in his house in spain telling us about what he was going to do. He had this whiteboard thing behind him with clues and a to-do list and stuff, and one of the things there was "visit the abandoned building"

After learning about Justin Roiland's "secret zoo level" I've come to realize not to trust him on any Easter egg or secret in his games
I can almost guarantee the Toejam and Earl one is a common developer trick used around that time to get games through certification by console manufacturers. Essentially, if a game the developer was working on crashed during testing, the game would be rejected. However, what some devs would do was to repoint the crash handler code of the game to a scene disguised as an intended part of the game to prevent it from crashing. A famous example is in Sonic 3D on the Genesis. You can actually trigger that one by slapping the cart while playing lol. The developer coded the game so that if it detected that it was about to crash, it would open the level select menu and act like you'd found a secret. I'd wager that's exactly what this developer did, too. Essentially, the scene isn't in the game itself, it's a crash handler. Has anyone tried slapping the cart for that game? :P
So this game has never crashed for anyone in 27 years? The Sonic 3D Blast one has been known about for a long, long time, way before the developer talked about it. This being the same as that does not seem particularly probable; it's not like it's a particularly obscure game, surely someone would have noticed this.
Also, "common developer trick"? Can you name one game that has it that isn't Sonic 3D Blast? Because I've never heard of any other games doing it, not even other Traveler's Tales games.

I believe I had the game freeze on me once. It was a long time ago though. Maybe it was a softlock, but I obviously never saw this.
An interesting thing about this game though is there is a single game genie code that will enable all these trixie rewards permanently (at least as long as the code is active). That's probably just setting the individual flags that enable each of them individually though.
The ones that intrigued me the most is the Ben and Edd one and Tomato Girl.

Well, the Ben n Edd Easter egg was super popular in the latin community. Not only because the ONLY youtuber that follow the case was a spanish speaker, but also because the creepypasta community in latin america its huge

@@souIburger they claimed there was a secret level called the "Zoo level" but it's most likely that it never existed at all as nothing has been found in the game files.

Regarding the Ben and Ed thing, you forgot to mention another Spanish youtuber called ElRinconDeGiorgio, who was researching this weird mystery, as well as the theory that both Bers and Giorgio (aka Jordi) had about this mystery: they thought it was related to the case of Armin Meiwes, a cannibal from Essen that famously met up with another guy called Ben on a cannibal forum and ate him.
Maybe this whole thing was an ARG based on that case.

You have made a great guess. In Germany there are still quite many cannibals about 500 accoring to the police (I live in Germany btw.). It is deeply disturbing and I think that this thing is probably more than an ARG. What if Ben really is a psychopath or cannibal? The bones that they found add up to this as the work of a sick mind. Pretty obvious the Ben and Ed one is an Arg meant to garner interest in the game. It just wasn't found as quickly as they thought it would. Why hire a person just to do one ending and that's it? And they were only acquainted with him online so he wouldn't be able to steal the iPod (and the dev didn't say it was stolen, just haven't seen it). Not to mention why go to an abandoned building at night when you could easily go during the day unless this is an Arg and they're trying to make it extra spooky.
They didn't even contact police about finding supposedly human bones (and coincidentally left some in the abandoned house) so doubt a real foot was cut off or this is a real killer.
Imagine being hired to simply just design an ending sequence, but instead you decide to kickstart the most bizarre mainstream ARG

I like how, while these aren’t confirmed Easter eggs, they are all plausible with actual evidence backed by dataminers and players that happen to stumble on clues. There are a lot of other youtubers that blatantly lie about ones that never existed in the first place.

@Wingless Shinigami Of course it is staged. Why would they go there in the middle of the night and not when it is sunny outside and when you can actually see something? Because doing it in the dark is sPoOoOoKiEeR and thus more interesting for the viewer.
Also, if it wasn't staged, they just filmed themselves tresspassing which is a crime that carries "a penalty of imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or a fine" in Germany.

Ben and Edd mystery is clearly the devs trying to do some creative marketing. Doing the standard TH-cam horror channel spooky house investigation is where my bullshit-o-meter hit red. It was nice and creepy up until that point.

"Benedict" so doesn't exist. I mean Ben-ed-Ict. Seems suspicious he just happened to have both of the characters names in his own.
Or that as a third party person he'd be allowed to just slip his own easter eggs and stuff in when he's only working on a single part of it and they'd have gone through everything he did to integrate it fully into the game. They would have to have known it was in there because they'd know all files that weren't theirs and how they connected to the game.

After all, the only things that were in the game were the cutscene at the end of Benpocalypse, which wasn't really out of place, and the thing saying to follow bennnnnn.

Hey, FYI, Justin Royland did something similar to what’s in Trover Saves the Universe in his previous game Accounting +, called the Zoo level Easter egg, which was debunked.
Edit: apparently the Zoo Level is real. Something about how the Zoo Level's code wasn't in the same directory as the rest of the levels. "It was in the RAW code" is a direct quote from game theory.

@@aboreal From what I remember, there was no Zoo level in the game code. However, last I heard it was not determined impossible, just that it didn't exist openly in the code. If someone was being clever, they could have the level downloaded when it was triggered, or decompressed from encrypted data inside the code that people aren't focusing on because it's not with the rest of the levels.
I don't really know the details, but that's about what I can recall
Game theory debunked it, however later responded that they had found that it was real, and the levels data was hidden in the source code of the game and didn’t have separate files.

That ben n ed one, those are my absolute favourite type of eggs and secrets. That dark kinda fourth wall break, like the game is in reality, gives me the creeps... it's like it adds another dimension and feel feel when you're playing the game.

The Ben and Ed easter egg was a thing i followed closely since it began back in 2015-2016 since i am a spanish speaker, and it was the most hyped up thing i ever experienced, watching Bers's streams and videos he made on it was pretty exciting, and i'm glad it got covered here since i feel it never really got that much of an impact.
i honestly loved the whole thing, staged or not.

i can %100 tell you the strange noise was supposed to be from the cut Lock Ness Monster easter egg which a model for can be found in the games files, Nessy was later repurposed for GTA Online's Cayo Perico heist DLC. i personally had the easter egg happen and i know of it because Pavel mentioned "something strange lurking in the water" but i was grinding the hell out of Cayo Perico before the nerf happened so i didn't look to try and find it. If you get too close it will leave and Pavel will comment on it. idk how rare it is or if it can only happen to a player once. i hope it can because i kinda regret not seeing it

Looking back tho, I do feel like, Bers being the biggest channel at the time covering the mystery (so much it felt practically like the only one) at some point he must have taken it in his own hands seeing the popularity it brought him. The first videos were most definetly real, but I'm sure at some point when things started getting crazier (traveling, meeting the developers, "stalkers" in the wood at night) he probably faked it to keep it interesting

The Mortal Kombat secret tower fight was actually discovered. I forget the sequence but you push certain buttons and the tower pop up. IIRC it's just a fight against a random character with a skin you don't have from their Kombat League.
I know I'm 6 months late, but let me explain: starting at 1:10 AM UK time, every two hours, you have to press ←↑←→←↑ in the Towers of Time when a meteor appears. You have to do this button combination very quickly, because once the meteor leaves the screen, you have to wait two hours in order to try again. Anyway, if you got it right, a tower will rise in the Summoned Towers section. It's comprised by only one fight against a character with a Kombat League skin, and a ton of modifiers, to the point where the game itself warns you about the tower's difficulty. Beat them, and you get their skin.
Also, the skins are completely random, and you can already own them. I got a tower with the same Shao Kahn skin I already own about five times.
I followed the Ben and Ed thing and to be honest the developers seemed a bit suspicious but it also doesn't make sense why they wouldn't admit or comment about it after all these years

Has anyone asked Greg Johnson about the ToeJam and Earl easter egg?
I believe I directed a question to him about it on the official TJ&E Twitter page, but their answer was that it was too long ago, and he could no longer remember! Since the end of 2019, me and Vitaly (the friend who first brought this discovery to my attention) have scraped that game with a fine tooth comb, and if there is a way to access the 'super secret' Trixie(s), it doesn't appear to be the usual 'Funk Scan and find a squiggly door'. We're pretty certain we've found all of those.
During the hunt, I've found a couple mysterious spots in the game where, by all logic there SHOULD be a secret door, but there isn't one - including a place where you can inexplicably warp into an iced-over pond.
