I always love how they finally explain why only one of the pilots actually does the piloting (unlike in stuff like Voltron where they others are just sitting there). Aya has to maintain the Telekinetic Field to keep the SRX connected by managing both her own and Ryusei's TK Fields. Rai has to manage the Tronium Engine, because it's so complicated and dangerous that when operated at full power it requires somebody to manage output at all times. And Ryusei does the actual piloting, because a Telekinetic needs to pilot and Aya is busy maintaining the TK Field.
the in-joke is that the SRX team becomes a Super Robot team despite being a Real Robot combination, thanks to Ryusei always calling out the attacks but behind him the team are busy keeping the SRX together. I believe in Voltron (the original) the team is actually coordinated to a degree that while it looks like Keith is piloting the whole thing but everyone is actually controlling their part. Similar to Saber Riders ,where Fireball controls movement, Cody controls weapons, April coordinates systems and Saber provides the British accent.
I just bought in DVD, and watched the whole series. the fact that they leave unanswered who controls whom and they save betrayal elements to the end episodes is very complex for Mecha Anime.
Maybe you already know, this covers very lightly the game OG1 they even left out the huckebein history, then comes OG 2 the inspectors, now animated, there is an OVA for the ODE system, after that I am waiting for them to cover the Shura, Darkbrain, Choukijin, Ruina, Gaia Sabers, Masou kishin, Fury, Gadisword, etc, this is going to be a long long ride
