I like to glue up the holes in the rims to keep water from getting in the foam. That has the added benefit of reduced tire ballooning and, as far as my XMaxx goes, a bit more stability.
Looks more stable now at high speed. Good test.
Fix the toe angle and it'll handle better. I heat the front wheel hubs at the connecting point of the steering with a lighter, and bend it a bit. Works perfectly and whe plastic will not loose strength if you don't heat it more than you need to.
There's also adjustable metal versions
Ordered my A959-B Yesterday. Then I started watching videos on it. As soon as I came across yours I bought those tires.Your car runs nicer than any I've seen with a simple upgrade. Now I'm just hoping they arrive at the same time lol. Thanks for the tip, I can't wait to try it.

Having it bottom out usually spares the shocks,shock towers, a arm mounts, so either make sure you get better shocks that allows it to bottom out with those wheels or don't jump too much with it.

I tried the 979 tires on my 959B, within 5 mins the hub had stripped out of the rim. I've got some alloy rims on the way. Cool video👍
much better with the tires... But when ever you put bigger tires than what came on a rc car you need to drop some teeth off the motors pinion gear to compensate for the bigger tires because if you dont your motor will get over worked and run very hot and may blow... DW see if you can put a smaller pinion gear on the motor I don't know what it has stock but I would try dropping 4 teeth lower on it now or maybe more so she wont blow! 👍😊👍
+Shen RC I figured the car was so ridiculously overpowered as it is it wouldn't really phase it by upgrading the tires. Honestly the motor barely got hot so I'm not sure is necessary to actually change the spur or the pinion just yet. I know you are the RC ground vehicle expert but something in my head says this setup won't have issues because of the massive amount of power produced by the overlarge motor inside. It actually ran hotter on the smaller tires than it is on the bigger tires
Shen RC I'm going to have to run this thing hard with both sets of tires and do some heat testing to find out if it is actually working the motor harder or not. #Hobbyist lol
Shen RC just to be ballsy I connected a 3s battery to it at 30C and it was able to handle that as well I think this car has more potential Than People realize
Just keep a eye on it but you may be right I forgot it had the big ass 1/10 scale size 540 motor so it may pull it fine...but watch the esc that may be getting hotter.

yeah, nearly forgot, I got a dromida a couple of years ago, it was slow so I converted to brushless ( and turned it into an old mini)

The metal 7mm to 12mm adapter sets are cheap and you can put 1/10 scale wheels on that bad boy. I plan to.There is even an extended set of adapters to set the wheels further apart.
+Mark Gross you'll burn the motors out and continue burning the motor out quickly it had a hard enough time running these tires. You could definitely tell it was taking a lot of drain on the motor even if you change the gears it's a lot of punishment on the motor
Ive done the same thing on two of them with on problems the motors do run hot but they do that with the stock tires I wouldn't go to big though lol ...till you get the up grade from amazon and put the same motor as the 12428

Why would it burn the motor out when the 1/10 scale I bought came with the same motor!!?? Had it for a year and half to two years and it still runs great and mine goes faster than the a959b!!

Jay Robert Sager I enjoy the small trucks the big trucks seem to need way too much work maybe I'll get something worth having in the future but for now 1/12 and 1/18 scale seem to be my happy median

The Sauer effect as you call it is actually called ballooning
Jax Zavisha I call it saucering or disking where I'm from. I never did like it being called ballooning cuz the tire technically doesn't balloon it comes to a point and looks more like a plate. Hence saucering or disking

I agree, ballooning makes it sound like the whole tire gets bigger when actually it only gets bigger in the middle making it look like a saucer not a balloon!! Great vid btw!
Put foam inserts inside the the tires to stop the ballooning

I've got the a959 vortex, and the tyres are almost bald, and the car veers to the left when driving. Want these TYRES! Also, my shocks brand new have already popped out of that little plastic bit on the bottom that holds the metal rod in place. Any suggestions on keeping the rod in the holder? Thanks man!!! +Beard Tech well brother unfortunately you're going to need to start ordering some parts here fairly shortly. As you know this does have an entire aluminum upgrade kit as things break you replace them with aluminum. The reason your car is pulling to the left or to the right is because your front end is worn out it's time to start replacing components with aluminum parts. eBay and Amazon has the aluminum kits for these so if you're pulling to the left or to the right most likely the first thing that is wrong is your drive cups are probably most likely worn out as well as your tie rods. You can just order new shocks if you need to they have the aluminum upgrade kit on eBay and Amazon

rosemarie abarro with bigger tires that should be able to take on some decent Terrain, just remember it's only 1/18 scale
Have you tried the 979b with the larger tires? Any thoughts on that one? Also is it worth buying wltoys over something like traxxas?
Honestly man this is cheap Chinese hobby grade stuff it's very affordable and for the most part pretty rugged remember this unit comes with basically the entire steel Dr Tran system. My sponsors are actually sending me the a 979 - b here shortly. I believe the tires that come on that truck are already sufficient enough
Seems to me the Dromida tires you running are worn down a bit in this vid.
The WLtoys a979 monster truck tires are a direct swap for the OG a959 buggy tires (or any of that series) too.
Also seems the Dromida tires are a wee bit wider?? The wltoys ones are very round.

Shocks are basically empty, just enough oil to wet it.

Igor Štimac I think those tires will be too large and too wide for this Frame setup. These tires are already kind of pushing the limit running tires of this caliber will actually deplete your vehicle run time by probably close to two and a half minutes giving you about 13 or 14 minutes of playtime as opposed to 16 or 17 Min. Remember the bigger the tires then you have to start changing out your gears these tires you do not have to change your gears with they will work perfect you will just lose a little bit of run time but the motor can handle it and you won't need to change the pinion or the spur gear
