I read it in English despite being Spanish. I needed time and a good translator... I am about to reach 50 years and found the book difficult and psychologically heavy burden... however, it is true... those feelings came back... that adult transition including all possible contradictions and mistakes... I am not sure when is the right age to read this book, I am not sure if I will read it again, probably not but it has left a print in my heart and soul. Thank you Salinger, good luck wherever you are, you have enriched my life.

I think he's likeable in the sense that his thoughts can be relatable to some people. The superficiality of forced social interactions and customs, the pressure to fit into environments you never selected for yourself, getting ignored. When I first read the book I found him so annoying and I hated him but I'm reading it again a year later and honestly, he's not that bad. I think his negativity is actually called for because now I understand why he feels like everyone sucks and is a phoney. He hasn't accepted reality yet and I just found it very relatable because I had been in the same spot before too. I think the way he narrated was perfecting in explaining how he struggled with coming of age.

I’m sad to say that I never got to read this in school and the thing that let me hear was a documentary made about Mark Chapman. This book sounds more than interesting, it kind of reminds me of Taxi Driver. The whole anti-hero sort of story is always so gripping. How they ride the line of inspiration and villain makes for a great story that’s hard to turn away from. It’s too bad some people aren’t sane enough to see them for what they are. Anyways, I’m glad to see in the end of the story he hints at going back to school.

Whiney, edgy, teenage shit. It’s the type of book the stereotypical “liberal art student” who never grew up thinks is some deep masterpiece. In reality... it’s a drudge to read. Kids in school: dont let your teachers tell you this is an important book or even a deep one. If you want deep, read something with actual real-world reflections like Orwell or actual historical books. Fact is often stranger than fiction, anyway; hence why things like Shakespeare’s works are often based off real situations and events
