Avery is the nicer of the Isle rivals. Klara's a little spoiled, but Avery just wants approval.
Agree, he instantly became my favourite among the both of them when playing the game, I am just glad that game freak didn't just make him an all around jerk dude that always look down on everyone (well he kinda did atfirst but then yeah he just wanted attention and redemption afterwards)

Kinda hurts when you remember that Avery's family treats him as an outcast for having 'menial' psychic abilities since he can only levitate things, hence him yelling 'Avery, Teleport!' when he runs away.
He's probably hoping to awaken the power to teleport by yelling that in order to get his family's approval.
I love how Avery's pokeballs all hit him on the head after the match.

I like Avery more because he has a better reason to be a jerk since he got disowned. Klara is basically just lazy, which doesn't fit what Mustard said at the end "Saying how they are hardworking".
From her league cards it seems like she did really try hard to be a pop singer but still failed
And for the part where she decided to try at the dojo because it didn't seem too hard, honestly a lot of people are like that lol but true, she's lazy
But at the end she's working hard again so she is overcoming it it seems

I LOVE to HATE them 😂😂 They are jerks but their characters are amazing.
Edit: They're both so funny especially Avery and the satisfaction when we destroyed their team is pure bliss. They're one of the best rivals in my opinion because they had so much jerk personality. I don't hate friendly rivals but sometimes you just gotta have some jerk rivals that tried to tear you down but hilariously failed to so. They both reminds me so much of Blue and Silver. Kudos to Gamefreak for Klara and Avery.
Joel Roldan I loved bede, because he makes both a really enjoyable rival and his backstory is pretty tragic
A little orphan boy abandoned by his parents gets taken in and trained under one of the most influential people of the country, and as a result he tries to make him proud only to be disowned when oleana tells him to destroy the mural and then turns on him, with mrs opal taking him in afterwards and training him while actually caring about him unlike rose (who doesnt even remember his name at one point)

True, Avery suffered more, but Klara was pushed by the player to actually work harder. As if you showing her up is slowly making her realize that things don’t come easy in life. And she finally gets her dream thanks to you opening her eyes, going from spoiled to hard worker. Avery’s story is one of sticking it to his family, Klara’s is how she becomes a better person.
So does avery. Both show how they become less bitter. Avery finally had someone who pushed him and didn't constantly downplay his effort. He finally got the admiration he wanted in the dojo and he wasn't going to let you take it away, and despite his many wrongdoings, the dojo shows him kindness which mellows him out (and you can see Avery is trying to be recognized by the player when you encounter him in the desert)
They're both excellent rivals

I’m hoping that these guys can join the Galarian Star Tournament in the future.

If you complete the main story of the Crown Tundra DLC, you’ll unlock an all-new tournament where you can partner up with and battle various characters you’ve met throughout the game.
I’m probably sure they will!
I imagine they might (version exclusive though). But if I can say, I'm hoping for everyone to use pokemon introduced in the star tournament to have a full roster of six they can pick from like the world tournament in Unova. And the teams of each trainer in the tournament getting updated and at least one being a pokemon found in the DLC. For example, Milo getting Lilligant, Nessa getting Golduck, Kabu getting Talonflame and so forth. Just to make things more interesting and harder in both tournaments
I hope they bring back all the gym leaders from past games in the tournament
All honesty Avery has the better Arc, despite his psychic puns being as excessive as Mr.Freeze from Batman in robin hes a solid opponent who acts like someone who’d be in the anime.
Plus given how his backstory is that his family disowned him for not having more powers than just telekinesis his inferiority complex is pretty deserved
Finally, someone who said he has a good arc.
I’m glad I got Shield. Avery is pretty funny when he speaks in Pokémon terms. And psychics are my 3 rd favorite type

I'm appearently the only one that realized this games have already reached rival perfection, with a lovable rival that has IMO the best battle theme in the game and her name is Marnie.

To be fair, they're trying to be Gym Leaders, which don't usually have full teams. Although past games gave Gym Leaders full teams when you rematched them.

I think it sucks that people hate her. I adore her character. But I get the whinny "brat" can get people to hate her. But I always love characters like that. She and Avery both try to sabotage you, and even cheat in the final challenge. It's the most character we fans have gotten from a pokemon character for years.
Don’t worry fam, I like him better too even though I had sword. They’re both expressive but I adore Avery’s dramatic snobbish persona so much more! I can’t get enough of watching him use his psychic abilities to summon his poke balls like that and I just love how they drop when he loses. Avery’s my boy all the way ✨

Plus, in the Dojo, Honey tries to get the Champions of the other regions to battle you. They decline, but it could be a hint. Just sayin’ :)

Orbeetle though I may agree for Avery, Toxtricity I will not for Klara. Gigantamax Toxtricity’s signature move is obviously electric type. And though it is part poison, it is very unfitting for Klara to use because of its rock star personality. Not to mention it’s more fitting for an electric type gym leader.

When I saw Klara sent out Drapion right away, I knew I’d love her even more.
I just realized something-
Bede was a psychic type trainer.
Avery is a psychic type trainer.
Both are jerks.
Both got their gym trainer status revoked.
The main difference is that Bede became a fairy type gym leader and Avery didn’t and probably won’t become a gym leader. Bede is also more of a jerk and had a pretty sad reason as to why he acts the way he does.
Avery has a chance at becoming a gym leader, by the end of the isle of armor plot hes decided to clean up his act and put more effort into his training
Also avery's backstory is also pretty sad. His card says his family disowned him because his only power was telekinesis
