This ain’t new, it’s always been like that. Hip Hop isn’t like Country, or any other genre. It’s our own thing that is highly competitive and built off the backs of people like LL and Kool Moe Dee, who competed regularly. Even the B-Boy battles of the 70s and 80s, and wanting to be the greatest at tagging. The arts within Hip Hop are definitely sports in their own right. It’s not fair to use other genres as a reference when that’s not what this is. None of those other genres are as dynamic or exciting. We can’t keep basing what we should or should not do on the demise of 2 rappers, out of hundreds who’ve had lyrical discourse. The one’s who are dying today because of rap, don’t know, care, or respect the history of this culture. They either die from outside things or because they don’t respect this as an art. At the end of the day, despite their hate for each other, I feel that both Kendrick and Drake understand that the art is more important, and both hope to keep it alive. Most of the time it be the homeboys that cause the problems, not the ones who are actually at “war.” The media also, like you said. I agree, Drake had an incredible run and should be proud. Dot is just lyrically superior, and reps the culture fully.
