The points you make are valid and true and I think in the first year(s) of marriage those are the things that are more apparent. But, let me point out that it's not a black/white and one-way situation. Yes, God does use marriage for sanctification and basically to make us less selfish and more loving in general...it's a type of 'death to self' but at the same time...if marriage is only those things no one would ever stay married. So, God ALSO uses marriage to fulfill us...if we're in a good marriage...to train us, teach us, fill us with companionship...I mean, take it back to Genesis...God created Eve and he didn't say, "Okay, here she is for you to become holy and sanctified..." No, he said, "It's not good that Adam is ALONE..." So, it will be interesting when you're giving your 13th, 14th, 15th year of marriage update. :)

Unfortunately you have to spend a lot of mental effort to do this since we were not born to be worshipers, the need and want to do this comes later in life when we start to seek reasons for our our very being. To serve this desire we create Gods to give purpose to life on the bases that we are a special species deserving of a spiritual component in the form of a divine friend. Surprisingly children and a lot of adults don't feel the need for this quest because they see ilife for what it, living, and in the case of adults there is a conflict between their innate morality and that of the holy books, an irreconcilable difference, that together with the laws of probability eliminate them from the faith arena.

Ian, I don't doubt your sincerity for one minute and I don't expect that you would doubt the sincerity of a muslim who found Allah to be real in just the same way. 2 Gods same result and we would have no trouble extending that number upwards, thats my point it doesn't matter what name you put on a God, even if we use the name Micky Mouse you get the same result when you surrender your senses and emotions. All Gods are real to the people who believe them, I don't think you could argue with that otherwise you would cause great insult to the billions of your fellow faith believers in other Gods. I followed your suggestion and looked at Tom Loud's videos expecting reasoned argument, all I got was a snake oil salesman using the power of suggestion by the guilible on the gullible, Ian did it ever occur to you that what he's doing is not medically confirmed, how long do you think the effect lasts, did you not ask yourself why is this man not attending the children's ward in hostipals up and down the country. Ian Im going to give you an example of a miracle. A miracle is when a one armed person suddenly acquires the missing arm, now thats what you call a miracle.I still can't believe you promoted Loud's performance as proof of a divine, Im speechless.
Jim Hawkins I have done the same. Medically confirmed. All this did was confirm and strengthen my belief. When you experience these things opens up a real Spirit world Jesus said is available to us. I am still trying to grasp this in a real world. It has stretched me. I hope you find what you're looking for.
