I saw King Kong 3 times in Australia before it was workshopped and worked over for Broadway. I loved it. I know the Broadway production was VERY different, and flopped, but I’d have loved to have seen it to compare.
i saw the australian show 9 times....the broadway version is soooo difrent...it became too broadway...the aussie version seperateed broadway. i guess they couldnt handle it...this opening is horrid compared to what we got, NEW YORK. and NO aussie soundtrack...thank god i recorded 5 shows on my phone...
@@andrewwallace1281 from what I’ve seen they tried to turn it into more of a conventional musical. Part of what made the Australian version so interesting was how unconventional the score was, and all the contributions from different songwriters. Did they keep the Get Happy and then the remix of it for Act 2 when Kong escapes the theatre and starts rampaging? That was incredible.
I was 16 when I saw the Australian version and absolutely loved it!! Andrew, if you could possibly share any of the videos you have, I'd be so grateful! It's one of my favourite shows I've ever seen!

@@mad8598 No, it was replaced by a reprise of the Chorus Line type song you see in this video, just sung with much reverb.
Bruh when I went I was like 3rd row. When they had King Kong stand fully up like god dam you could hear a pin drop.
Wish they do a Godzilla musical too in the future.
I watched this play with my school a few years ago and it was amazing! Too sad they stopped showing. This was my favorite song too
