FLOWER WITH TAIL: Impatiens Balsam Gulmehndi Flower Plant Care Tips - Impatient to Reproduce

- , Today we will quickly look into a beautiful easy to grow flowering plant called Impatiens or Balsam plant or gulmehndi plant. Its also know by various names like jewelweed, touch-me-not, snapweed, patience, busy lizzie and so on.. Its called impatiens because this plant does not have patience when it comes to reproduction and its seed pod explode on touch and spill seeds for propagation.
Well, we will quickly look into some important and interesting facts and care tips about this plant:
1. They are mostly Annuals and some species are perennials
2. They can grow to a maximum height of 7 feet.
3. They are sometime called Flower with a Tail. The Flowers are beautiful and have a special tail like extension called spur or horn - to attract and allow the pollinating insects to sit on it and help in pollination - this again may be the reason to call it as Impatiens plant.
4. Impatiens flowers can grow in Partial shade or full sun (If its grown in partial shade - gradually increasing the number of hours of sunlight exposure that is adapting the plant to full sun can increase flowering).
5. Watering requirement: The Balsam plant requires a lot of water - do daily watering is must else you plant will wilt. The more sun your impatiens flowers get, the more water it will need. Pay attention to the moisture of the plant's potting soil, and make sure that it is consistently moist. Never let impatiens dry out. But it does not mean you must allow water to stand - and hence it needs a well draining compost rich soil.
6. Fertilizer: Impatiens flowers do not really need regular feeding. Slow-release fertilizer in the potting soil is all you need. You may also give them a small dose of fertilizer once in about 3 months.
7. It is susceptible to Many Pests and Diseases like whiteflies, aphids, spider mites, caterpillars, and powdery mildew - that is fungus. You can use Neem Oil Spray once every 15 days as an organic solution to counter or even prevent these problems.
8. Propagation: You can clone impatiens Either by cuttings or they can be grown easily from seesds.
9. Pruning: If you want a bushy look and more flowers - Keep Pinching the tips of the plant for accelerating growth and increasing flowering. Also perform deadheading of the flowers frequently to promote growth. Hello. I have noticed that you use red soil for potting. Is it good for pots? It has a lot of clay content so don't you face the issue like "caking" of red soil when it becomes like one single brick and water just slips from your sides? & What to do to improve it's water drainage? Also, please tell which plants prefer red soil. Thank you.
Hi, this seems to be an old video. When you get plants from local nurseries they use clay soil which is compact and not good. I put the root ball in a tub of water to free the roots from this sticky soil and repot in a potting mix which I make with this formula shown here - th-cam.com/video/0I_IIbVqeME/w-d-xo.html

Hello.. is this flower grow without sun?
It's been two months I have bought these plants from nursery, however I have not repot yet, m watering regularly to ensure that the soil is moist but not soggy and apply fertilizer and neem oil atleat once a month. Still the plants are not flowering. Mine is an east facing balcony and get the morning sunlight. Please advise

I have placed these under tile roof shade area. They do get morning sunlight. But today I noticed the leaves are curling or scorching. I water them as per moisture check. Could you plz guide me how do I save these plants.

My impatiens has completely dropped. I had repotted it later after few days saw them dropping. Watered it but still didn't recover . I thought of checking the soil and saw that the bottom soil had developed fungus or mold. Now I have changed soil and repotted but still it is droopy . Any tips?
Add less water! And keep in half shade n sunlight
