Maybe if you’re on NG and have already used every walking mausoleum or DLC duplication coffin and used Mohg’s remembrance for the runes so you can’t access Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear and that’s an alternative you may find use there? Idk if it ever gets to that point you’re doing something wrong

@@lidudley3000 the bullgoat helmet is a hellenistic phrygian helmet ,the messmer's soldier armour looks like a celtiberian chainmail with a disc shaped protection like the one found in Aguilar de Anguita , the kaiden helmet is a vendel era nordic helmet and many many other real life inspirations

I think if they make the Bloodfiend's Sacred Spear Bloodboon much faster, it would probably do very well. Same vein as stuff like Thunderbolt and Gravity Bolt, but with a focus on buildup. Imagine, getting a good two blows on an opponent, they withdraw to heal and get bled when you quickly use your AoW.
Btw, the skill of Jori's spear is bugged(at least possibly, maybe this is intentional), the proejctiles actually inflict blood loss build up despite not being physical projectiles or you attacking with the spear itself.

The Messmer Soldier's Spear is so much fun. Heavy infusion with RKR with Axe Talisman and your charged heavy attacks will hit really hard. Get a counter hit with the Spear Talisman and then your opponent will be missing 75% of their health. It's so gooood.
The Spear of the Impaler is one of the best remembrance weapons from the DLC.

Agreed I just wish it was a bit faster attack wise or have a unique combo like the 3 rapid pokes that messmer does and for the heavy attack uncharged should do a 360 spin again like messmer and when you fully charged it you can throw it
I've been using Messmer's spear for a huge portion of my new journey cause it looks cool and is fitting for the drip, but mainly just the regular attacks. Having not really used spears before they feel slow and the stamina consumption of them is huge, especially the throw attack. When I went against the mimic tear I was expecting something of an honourable duel. I didn't anticipate it would immediately melt me to death with that ash of war, but then I realised where the weapons true power lies.
The Messmer Soldier Spear is really good on a charged heavy attack build with Royal Knight’s Resolve
Plus can benefit from lots of Tailsmans I’m using two handed, spear, charged and multi hit Tailsmans
You can put rkr on the Messmer solider spear and it will buff both hits of the charge attack, so you can get around 8k damage from one charge attack
Can i suggest wearing the sanguine noble chest armor instead of the ronin armor for fashion?
I love it when someone uses the Messmer Spear in PvP, Messmer's Assault is so easy to dodge and they look so silly flailing around in the air with no effect like that.

Realizing that the Messmer Soldier Spear is a greatspear was a pleasant surprise. The special R2s are pretty awesome and it's great to have the Treespear moveset on an infusable weapon.
One thing that Elden Ring really needed to do more of was just swap around movesets more. By mixing and matching different moves between weapons they can make a lot of variety. For instance what if they had made an axe with the same R2s as the Iron/Celebrant's Cleaver, but different light attacks, like standard axe lights, or Warped axe lights, or even hatchet light attacks? The Forked Hatchet probably would have actually been good if it had those cleaver style R2s (and it would have matched the Imp's combat style more!). The ingredients are already there to spice up a lot of the weapons, but it just didn't get done. It makes me wish they would spend more time on these things, because just a bit more thought and effort would have taken a lot of equipment from "decent" to "great". Each weapon just needs a little something to properly set it apart and make it worth using. Most weapons do have that, but there are plenty that don't. The basic Battle Axe is a good example. The Highland Axe is nearly identical but has it's special bonus effect, and higher crit multiplier. The Battle Axe has almost nothing to set it apart. It might perform slightly better on certain affinities, but I forget.
I feel like Jori's spear is built with incantations in mind. Paired with some setup spells like fire serpent or pest threads, I could see the ash of war being much more usable in duels. 1H greatspear with catch flame also goes pretty hard, if you don't mind not having hyper armor.
Ronin armor goes so good with lots of armor sets.
Haven't really used spears much myself but i might give it a try on my next playthrough.

Especially that it doesn't have Midras head on it that gives it the frenzy flame properties. Misses opportunity.

Once you realize to dodge inward on impalers spear L2 string it's ash of war becomes way easy to dodge honestly. I still love it tho.
Jori's inquisition only hits about 5 or 6 times. A good majority of the projectiles fired, do not have hitboxes. You'll see if you hit a troll with the full ash of war that it is not just a massive stream of damage. Only a few of the projectiles actually count.

The only downside for Spear of the Impaler is that it uses so much stamina specially the heavy attack, and the heavy attack itself has a low stance damage around 9 when charged. Tho its my favourite one, it carried me through the DLC.

Bloodfiend sacred spear is hard to go against if you dual wield and spam crouch poke. Does insane bleed and will sometimes insta prok on people with low robustness.

I used the spear of the impaler on NG+2 and beat Malenia on my third attempt. That’s the fastest I’ve ever done it.

Yes, almost any weapon where the main attack is a thrust can be used while guarding. Just make sure you have a lot of stam
