SOUND ON! Jeremy McGrath Races a Kawasaki KX125 Two-Stroke!

- The Dubya USA Vet World Championships went down at Glen Helen Raceway last weekend, and as usual the event was star-studded and attracted entrants from around the globe. Jeremy McGrath finished restoring a Kawasaki KX125 in recent months and he brought it out to race a couple of different classes. The King of SX agreed to take our GoPro Hero11 Mini for a ride in his first moto of the weekend, consisting of 30+ Pros on 125s. Volume up!
Being 52 yo, - and still goes this fast! The 👑 is not temporary it is truly for eternity!
Not only that, but he's racing a fossil against modern two strokes.
@@shmirdonkin Well, it shows you that the "fossil" can go very fast, and how damn good they were for it’s time. And Jeremy’s pc equipped engine is not what you average local rider can get their hands on. But it is indeed a testament to Mcgrath and also how good kawasaki’s 125s were.
@@shmirdonkinI’ve owned loads of mx bikes my YZ 125 ‘94 was exactly the same as my ‘06 YZ 125 power wise. Rider not bike.
That this is not a 125cc anymore, prob 140-142cc. Just sayin, Im 53 and feel like I have a chance against him now

People need to remember. This man was on a completely different level when it came to dirt bikes. He’s a master at this sport and as long as I’m alive no one will touch his Supercross win category.
in his prime he was precision timing and knew momentum and jumps better than anyone…..still damn good and that shit rocks….JMG🔥

I'm 49 years old and used to race as pro here in Sweden from when I was 13, and this gives me goose bumps and such nostalgia how it was back in the '90s when I raced the 125cc's❤️ Thank you for uploading this🙏

Great to see our hero out there still ripping all these years later. MC is one of the truly cool guys in our sport.
I think his Kawi was a little underpowered compared to some of to some of those newer one two fives, but man the King sure rode the hell out of it! My favorite rider ever.

What a BOSS! So inspiring! I'm 51 and rock with guys that race in the upper 70s and 80s on the flat track and in Vintage Motocross, J Mc is one of those cats... not enough O's in cool to describe him!😎
Kawasaki hasnt made a kx125 in 20 years..... hes probably 10hp down and 30 years up on everyone. Long. Live. The. King. Jeremy!
It's a 2004 kx 125cc with 450 suspensions
@andreabrindesi6526 so a 20 year old bike, 50 year old rider, maybe 35hp engine against the 40+ hp ktms.....but it has 450 "suspensions" and so that levels the playing field? They were just starting to use closed cartridges back then, the kx125 was still using open chamber stuff...... but I'm betting the results would've been the same until the bike broke in half.
@@hondaman3317 i m not an expert jmg said that in an interview..however..I do not mind to technical details . To me if engine is ok and possible updates are on is enough..
It was the vet nationals and he’s on a “factory” pro circuit 125… same age as most of those guys on a bike that’s probably better and he was 15 seconds down on lap 1. Looked like a C class rider beside mike brown
PC claimed their last factory spec KX125 made 44HP on their dyno, which was 2HP more than what Factory Kawasaki ran, but PC's powerband was very peaky, while the factory bike had more torque. Every dyno is different and different temperature or humidity also effects the results. That being said, i don't think this KX125 was far down on power, if anything it's probably very similar, but it most likely had a narrower peak power window. PC spec Showa A-Kit Suspension on the last PC KX125s was comparable with today's stock suspension, perhaps slightly better. But yes at 52 years old he's still going incredibly fast!

I have to say, I watched that and I was mentally getting tired. I was fanning, shifting, looking for lines , braking bumps, etc. wow! I don’t know how MC does it. I would be spend. That was awesome, Swap. I just sold my LAST bike (cuz I’m old) so thanks for sharing. I miss the intense feeling of hanging it out.

Great to see McGrath in his native environment. He’s a legend. Man that looked like one of the coolest race courses to ride, nice flowing rises, with long downhill and uphill runs!

I forget what year it was when Jeremy McGrath was racing a Honda CR-250 2-stroke against a plethora of 4-strokes and I'm pretty sure he was one of maybe 3 riders on a smoker and he rode great and even with his 2t Honda cr 250 against 4-chokes that were 400 to 450cc. bikes Jeremy still managed to come in 7th place! I have tons of respect for the King Jeremy McGrath.It was a Supercross race for sure I just can't recall what year or SX race! If anyone out there remembers please let me know.
The hooting and hollaring when the 874(?) goes past MC at the 4:04 mark, says how genuine his passion is for riding dirt bikes. THAT.... was awesome!
The year was 2005. Daytona Bike Week. My buddy, his dad, and I snuck into the pits at the SX event. All the riders were signing autographs. McGrath happened to be there that weekend and he was also signing autographs. I had his book, “Wide Open” on me and wanted him to sign it. When it was my turn I said with a huge grin “hey Jeremy, I’m a big fan and read your book twice!” He grinned and said back, “why?” My buddy’s dad started cracking up, McGrath signed the book and my Jersey and we left. I felt so awkward 😅
Still has it. Favorite rider of all time. Another lap he would have had that pass just from technique alone. Good sportsmanship guys.

I can tell you that you worry much more about broken body parts than going fast at this age! As you get older there are lines you no longer cross and you find a speed that makes you happy but also increases your chances of going home in one piece.
Definitely seems like he got a bit of arm pump on lap two, but the corner speed that first lap is why he's a legend, so fast and smooth over the breaking bumps.
Mc was and always will be the best in my opinion.
Watch the video 3 times Watch how everything is smooth... no jerkiness in the corners proper shifting etc etc that is why these big pros are who they are..

Man McGrath is an absolute bad ass. I grew up watching him and he can still ride, he isc2 years older then me, I still ride but no where close to his level and I hurt like hell after a long desert ride but McGrath is a beast!
Always makes me nervous when the older legends race Glenn Helen. Vet World Championship? Is Southern California still on lockdown? There were zero people on the sidelines watching the King race!
He did a nice start. He did a best for his KX and himself. But due to the technology, KTM or GASGAS are faster than full-tuned his KX125. Especially engine.
