A little scoop on Darius Rucker. Before he started singing country music, he was the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish and was very successful in the pop genre. Now he's extremely successful in country! 😀

He made an excellent choice to go "country". I loved Hootie & the Blowfish but they kinda fizzled out with other new artists stealing their thunder (happens in all genres - only a few last for decades). I love his country side too & this song/video is great!😊

The sad part about Darius is he always wanted to be country, but his "handlers" convinced him we'd never accept him. Imagine all the country music he could have been making all these years. Let Her Cry was actually written to be a country song.

I first heard this song while working in factories...they pumped music in the workplace o help you along. It's been one of my all time favorites for life.They never play it on the country music stations enough for me. I listen for it all the time.

You have got to see the original group who did this “Old Crowe Medicine Show.” I grew up in the Appalachian mountains in NC. They are a bluegrass band. I have always loved Darius and when I heard it done by him I absolutely loved it right off the bat! Great reaction!!

It's been covered by groups from the USA to Italy, England, Ireland etc. Some famous some not. here are a few Adam Ezra Group...Blues duo Salty Dog...Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup...Quattro Formaggio (Italy)...William Crawley and Hugo Duncan (Ireland)..Somewhere St.(Ireland)..Bluegrass Bros...Slack Family....Fat Cactus and played at nearly every Bluegrass Festival here and abroad. Thank you for your reply, keeping me on my toes.
When I was Ireland like 10 years ago every pub I was in the bands played this song. Irish folk is really the origins of country music

This is not a “country “ song! It’s just a great song! Kudos to Old Crow Medicine Show and even more to Darius Rucker on his delivery! Every song he touches is uplifted! He could have stayed home after Cracked Rear View, still the number 5 selling album in the world! But he continues to amaze us!
Hello from Texas! Hootie covered this song. The original version is done by The Old Crow Medicine Show. Hootie does a good job with it. But the original is better. Just not as well known. Alot of people think Hootie wrote this. He did not write any part of it.

I'm just discovering your Channel and I'm absolutely loving it! I grew up listening to country music thanks to my father and his family. Many people have the same reaction you said you did, that when they hear the first few notes they changed the channel. But once they actually give it a fair chance, they get drawn in. Country music has a way of always telling a story whether it is a serious tearjerker or one that makes you laugh. Darius is from a town about 2 hours from where I was born, raised, and still live. He went to the University of South Carolina which is in the town I live in. My brother also went there and was a resident Hall advisor at the time. One of Darius's bandmates lived in my brother's residence hall. They were having a late night practice and my brother received a ton of complaints about the noise. So he went upstairs and told them that they would all need to leave and that they could not practice in the hall anymore. Little did he know how famous they would become.. My brother laughed about that till the day he died. That was always one of his favorite stories to tell and he always wondered if any of the band happened to remember that night. Darius and his bandmates from Hootie and the Blowfish have a very special place in the hearts of South Carolinians. They have never turned their back on us and have given back tremendously to the state. Darius especially has been generous and has done so much for our citizens. He has especially given to programs like the Children's Hospital. We are proud to call him and his bandmates one of our very own! We love his music and we love him! And I am absolutely loving watching your journey of becoming a lover of country music. It's a great journey to take.
I love it when people who would have automatically changed the station when a twangy country song came on actually give it a chance and find a love and appreciation for country they never thought possible, especially the golden era from the early artists through to the 90’s.
You can not go wrong with a beautiful song like this one without a Fiddle, Banjo, The Harmonica, The Slide Guitar and A Beautiful Voice...

I love both versions but what a fun surprise right off the bat when he's lying in bed with Duck Dynasty playing on his TV, then Uncle Si Roberson picking him up in his truck, then Willie, Sadie & Korie Robertson in the truck, on the bus & in the club & Jase Robertson in the club singing; so this was a really fun video! 🥳😊
The other guy in the video is Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum, not sure about the girl & the other guy unless they're Hillary Scott & Dave Haywood also of "Lady A".

He hasn't been in the country scene as long as others but he is very successful at it.But you maybe have heard of his other very successful group hootie and the blowfish.Hes hootie.The guys at the end were the Robertson clan.They are the inventors of the duck callers for hunting ducks.They have a show on tv called duck dynasty.Pure country there.I do beleive the other guy was luke bryan.Not sure as I dont follow him much.Great choice

Bob Dylan and two co-writers wrote the music to this song back in 1973. It was not finished and was under the name Rock Me Mama and he just shelved it. Somehow it got into the hands of bootleggers and was being played and the named changed to Wagon wheel. It was found by Old Crow Medicine Shows lead singer who wrote the lyrics and put it in their show. Then Darius found it and made it a hit. According to Wikipedia.

This actually a cover he did that became more popular than the original which was done by Old Crow Medicine Show, their interpretation is very different.
It warms my heart to see people discovering these stories for themselves and enjoying them! Even the happy songs can make a person tear up because of the warmth you feel while listening to it and picturing the story in your mind.

This type of "country music along with Bluegrass have their origins deep in Ireland.
When the Scot Irish began to make their way to this land now called the U.S. they brought their music and instruments with them. Masses of them settled in the Smokey Mountains. They became mountain people or hillbilly's
The areas where they settled in those mountains is near enough to Nashville and recording studios and stages began to pop up there. It is now considered the Country Music Capital of the world.
The vast majority of true Southerners are offspring of those people and still relate to that kind of music
The beat of the British Isles still speaks to our DNA.
FYI...everyone he gets a ride with and the "bouncer," at the club at the end are members of a family that has a TV show called "Duck Dynasty". All the men have long hair and long beards!When he wakes up, the folks he talks with at the end are those same people.
I happen to LOVE Darius MORE after the Blowfish era. Darius has a better fit in COUNTRY. Just my opinion. (I am a snob. I did an undergraduate degree in music, classical voice.) I have a Masters in History as well. I have played guitar, fiddle, harmonica, and am a 1st Tenor. My musical experience covers Funk, Jazz, Country, Fusion Jazz, Jazz, Zydeco, Gospel, etc. I am a brass man (cornet, trumpet, baritone, trombone, harmonica,). Darius has and will do his best work in some type of Country. Why? He is a country kid. He knows this. His soul is in country/ blue grass/ country pop. He is legit!
