Love that Formula made such a large swim platform on this massive outboard model. Plenty of room for a tender - which you’ll need if youre island hopping in a boat this size.
Your reviews of this particular boat have been nothing short of astonishing. Based on your reviews and assessment, the Formula 500 SSC will be my very FIRST YACHT. 🍾 Cheers mate! 🥂
i love the setup in the back and the fact it separates the engines form the walking deck. Hope more (smaller) boats use this becasue the only reason for inboard engines is the passenger comfort (using the swim platform) and overall design aspects. Other than that, outboards have been developing with insane speeds and are better almost in every aspect when compared to inboards.
That automatic transmission is the future of outboards. The increase in efficiency and range alone is going to push it into other outboards. I suspect the 4.6 V8 Verado will be the next to receive it.
I agree. They are the only ones that seem to give useful information like fuel consumption, speeds, and other features that a possible buyer would need to know.
Captain Steve, I have watched your videos for years and I have been a fan of Formula boats since the brought back outboards on their boats. This is that one boat that as a working Captain myself, I will strongly recommend to people if they want a boat to travel around Florida and go to the Bahamas.
Amazing boat and great review. Coming back into the dock near the end the video has just been reversed from when leaving the dock. You can see it in the the bow thruster water.
One I hope you get your hands on for review as soon as hull #1 hits the water is the Seaforce IX 610CC. That beast will supposedly have _SIX_ of those Verado monsters on the stern. A 61 foot boat with an anticipated top speed north of 70 mph.
Hey nice job using the same video in reverse illustrating coming back into the dock. Same cloud over the boat. Water disturbance on the wrong side when maneuvering. Caught ya!
Any idea what kind of range you'd be able to get if you raised the 2 center engines out of the water and were just cruising at displacement speeds? Super cool boat and great video (as usual)! Thanks!
Very nice boat and the Mercs are where they were born to be and doing exactly what they were built to do. That said my several mill. Would be spent on a little different type boat but more power to that 30yr old rich party boy. He could sure have a blast.
Great looking yacht! My only gripe is the fuel burn. I'm used to diesel's. I have a 2012 Sea Ray 470 that burns 35 gph running 28 mph. If I go 36 mph I burn around 40 gph. This boat burns 86 gph at 36 mph. Wow! Now granted it's a heavier boat but still that's a lot of fuel for a 50 foot boat. I would expect between 40 and 50 gph for this size boat. But again, it's gas not diesel.
Put in some diesels that can get you to 70mph and while yes the diesel will probably still get better economy, i dont think it would be much better if at all
@@zynnotzen Bro! Seriously? I'm not talking 70 mph. Read my comment again. This boat burns 86 gph at just 36 mph. At 66 mph it's burning 208 gph! Let me repeat it for you so it sinks in ... 208 GALLONS PER HOUR!
@@treydrier3169 you are misunderstanding me lol. Yes i understand you are talking about 36mph, but i am saying having the capability of 70mph not going 70mph. Youre gonna need some big diesels to do that which at 36mph would burn more than the ones u got in ur boat
The outboards and transom area are freakishly huge. Those outboards are also very expensive. The fuel usage is ridicules also. This boat must have a gigantic price tag.
He only went there to go to the bathroom and they can't video that, well not on TH-cam. In his next video he will be focusing on the entire boat, inside and out appearance, practicality, functionality, etc.. There in the comments you will find someone posted "Good video, but why don't you take the boat out and let us see thee performance?"
Still no answer from Formula on what happens to the water when you berry the bow. I’ve looked at several videos and they don’t show any type of emergency drainage!
Boat is killer i dont like open bow in ocean but its big enough to not scoop watter in big waves and that is only thing i dont like on open bow when waves crash over the front they fill up
It's funny how so many complain about the price of this boat, but don't have the money to buy one that costs a fourth as much. Then they compare it to boats that don't go half as fast. This boat costs 2 mil-2.8mil. It also runs 66kts. If you're happy with a boat that cruises at 20kts, then go buy it. That's not what this boat is for. This boat is for people that want to go from Miami to the Bahamas in a little over and hour...and have a lot of money to spend. LOL
Yup noticed that just now. I like this channel and reviewer clearly has earned his chops but please don’t say this vessel eases back up to the dock without a bow thruster when it’s a reverse play of the embarkation.
So what is the idea of putting 4 x 600 petrol engines on a boat like this, when you could do the same cruising experience with twin 600 hp cummins diesel and get 50 pct reduced consumption and cost/mile!?
@@TexanUSMC8089 but 4 * 600 gascrematories burn 3 times more than two 600 cummins diesel per mile. Not to mention the resalevalue which is much better. And who want the swimplattform be full of engines.? I think motor boats trend are going the opposite vs car Evolution!
It’s also $1 million more then the Verve. A loaded Verve lists for 1.88mil and the Formula is listed at (hold your breath and don’t fall over) $2.8 million! I want to see how many takers there are at that price point. Seems ridiculously high.
@@jays9211 Yup I was expecting it to start around $2 million since it's a bit bigger than the Azimut 47, but $3 million+ with any sort of options is a tough sell (IMO) for a boat that can only sleep 4. I see the benefit of outboards, and the speed is impressive, but still... That said, I'm sure they'll sell plenty, the interest for this specific model is through the roof. Plus at least theyre thoughful enough to create a swim platform big enough for a tender unlike all the other huge outboard powered boats that draft 4ft (like the Seaforce 51 for example)
Do I win a prize for noticing the clip of pulling back into the dock was just the reverse video of the boat leaving the dock?
A 2 million dollar boat should not need the same video tricks as a $10 Chinese kitchen gadget.
Well done spotting that.
you mad funny lmao 😂
I came to the comments just to see if anyone noticed that.
Just watched today and first thing I noticed that was done cheaply
😆same I saw that
I've never heard of a boat decreasing fuel burn while increasing speed at the same time. That's impressive!

Inboards are far better especially with jet drive. Outboards are for boats of poor design.
That automatic transmission is the future of outboards. The increase in efficiency and range alone is going to push it into other outboards. I suspect the 4.6 V8 Verado will be the next to receive it.
I've seen several overviews of this boat and you guys have done the best one by far.
Not even close
Thank you! 🙌🏽
Agreed.

Except for the docking at 10:50 when they just reversed the film from leaving dock.....LOL That was kind of cheap production
Favorite boat this year so far
This is the type of boat I'd love to own in Florida. In the PWN were I call home most of the time it would have to be a Nord Havn.
It is a nice boat. But I wish the owners room had a higher head space.
But I love the boat.

Maybe it's because the companionway was open, but it sounded like a good deal of haul slapping when you were talking about how quiet it was.
Yeah I heard that too. We're just having a conv*clunk*ersation here!
Finally technology has improved in the boating industry. Amazing.
Where have you been?
"now lets go down below" my favourite part
Amazing boat and great review. Coming back into the dock near the end the video has just been

They said the boat was not equipped with a bow thruster
Boy would I love to hear the sound of those. Maybe think about adding a sound clip?
This is the boat I have been waiting for Formula to make

I wouldn't be surprised if Capt. Steve buys one of these boats. He's obviously very impressed with it.
Best reviews by far! Thank you Captain Steve!
Nice seeing their performance. I'm torn on how quiet those engines are. Most of the time, quiet is better. But sometimes I want the engines roaring.
Maybe they will offer the new “sport exhaust mode” on these 600’s which is now available on a couple of the new Verado outboards models.
This the first I have seen the 600's in the water. Very cool to see. Nice walk through.
Would you own this over the Cruisers GLS? For family boating around the Bahamas.
Like always Captain Steve did an incredible showing well done
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Why do marine speakers still look like something they'd use on Pimp My Ride?
I've noticed the same thing in the RV world. Any RV that is geared towards sporting activities looks like a Las Vegas bordello.
Would've been nice to see the head and a bit more of the cabin layout and galley
Please visit Boattest.com you can see more there thank you.
I’m Speechless 😶
FOUR V12 outboards on a 50+ foot Formula
11:28 it’s Surreal the Physical engine Mass.
Just wait till they make like 1000 hp engines lmao
Great intelligent design & its a powerful boat
Been waiting for you to review 500, nice job. Absolutely awesome boat!!!

Well, nothing reminding me how poor I am until I start looking at boats and their cost :)
You have said it. 😢
That is one sweet boat. I wonder if they'll make an all sport version that's more fishing focused?
I'm sure Formula will set your boat up any way you want it.
Wow! This boat is quicker than my 1960 VW Beetle!
FOUR V12s! Don't quite know what else to say!
WTF...50,000lbs of boat at 66mph is what I'd say 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely beautiful $2,000,000 boat, wish I had another $1,999,990 to buy this
10:49 ; what a minute... is that just the pulling away from the dock footage in reverse? XD
Great review as always!
Why did you played the departure in reverse at 10:50 to look like you are docking ?
Good catch. You can see the ripples in the water going inwards.
I noticed the same thing. Only blemish in the video
Maybe they just didn't get a chance to video the return to dock for some reason.
I noticed that also.
I looked to see if anyone else caught that.
Why do they do that when anybody watching with boating experience is going to notice the reverse film edit during departure and arrival at dock?
I noticed the fill run backwards when docking but otherwise, damn, I want one.
Mercury is definitely leading the outboard industry! I wander if Yamaha will respond!
What an amazing tribute to American ingenuity.

The refresh rate of the tach is pretty bad. RPM display jumps like crazy and not really smooth. Could be the camera though filming the screen?
very nice one thing , for that amount of money the anchor chain should be stainless steel , why do you put a galvanize chain
