The recording that was released was originally supposed to be a demo recorded by Tuomas, Tarja, and Emppu (he recorded both the lead guitar and bass lines) to get a record deal. However the label they signed with loved the recordings so much they just released the whole album as is instead of re-recording it. The DVD was released in 2019 and therein the source of the confusion. For me the lyrics are about someone questioning their religious beliefs. Tuomas has said in an interview that it is about the historical Jesus. He wrote the song at the age of nineteen and he has said he was still more of a believer then a skeptic at the time but very much thinking about his relationship with this historical figure and not really knowing what to think about it. A song questioning rather then praising. The lyrics start with "Who are you? Man condemned to shine a salvation Throughout the centuries" an indication the narrator is questioning who Jesus is and wonders if he was just a man that we wrongly placed our salvation on rather then looking to ourselves. Second verse is "Why? Was the wine of the grail Too sour for man to drink" Again the narrator is wondering if mankind chose that path because relying on ourselves is a more difficult path then believing in a god to save us. Third Verse "The one they lick The same old sick Dream of their precious savior" I think is a condemnation of those who blindly follow religions without thinking critically for themselves. The final verse "I hear you Through the symphonic voices of nature The purity I could never doubt ..." is the narrator saying that true divinity is found through observing nature in all it's beauty and complexity and it's verity is unquestionable since it is not coming from mankind's thoughts. Tuomas has said this song is special for him because it captures who was at that time and then when he looks at how he has changed and grown he likes who he has become.
