They’re all over the country. It’s just that in the current cultural and economic reality, the pressures of being both a mother and a wage earner are virtually disregarded by the media and society in general. Most families are getting by with two income parents. Worse still is the harsh fact that far too many mothers, indeed fathers as well, who had careers before they had children now have jobs not in their chosen field, or if still in that field, much lower on the scale with little hope for steady advancement. This is especially true for mothers. The harsher reality is that the mother never had a career but rather an underpaid job which will not be waiting for her return, or if it is, the wages will not pay enough for child care. The single most undervalued job is the so called Stay At Home Mom. Our society condemns her and ignores her. And she can count on being told, “Well, you don’t work, so, you know...” until she’s automatically fired when her kids leave home. After that she hears, “Well, you never had a real job, so...” for the rest of her life. No SSI for mommy. Unless her husband, the love of her life, father of her young adult children, dies too soon. Thanks to the system, she’s left entirely on her own. On the positive side, countless fathers share equally in the household work on all levels. This is its own reward for the whole family in so many ways. The greatest reward is that both parents do play with their kids; they are friends with them. They communicate with them, do silly things things together, have fun as a unit as well as individually while guiding their kids towards self discipline at each stage of age group. Laughter and authority are not mutually exclusive. Fewer material isolating latest advertised must have junk purchases is more than compensated for with time spent helping in the garden, the kitchen, cleaning up, reading, storytelling, running around, going places, meeting other kids in playgrounds and parks, discovery, discourse. And dealing with normal childhood meltdowns and disobedience is handled at once fairly but firmly for the child’s age. Parenting is never easy under the best circumstances. It’s an exhausting constant mind bending ever changing improvisational challenge. But, oh, what a joy if you like kids. Broken bones will heal. Worry and frustration will become your unwanted companions. Anger will rear up in you. Mistakes and missteps will haunt you. Failures will wound you. And yet, above all else, love will strengthen you, soothe you, save you. In this era of social media, selfie obsessed, ranting tweets, mandatory hot sex scenes in movies and tv series, texting instead of talking, haters and trollers, political vs religion vs science fighting, a fearful shrinking middle class, unreality tv and all the rest of the mess with which we daily contend, we are losing sight of that single most precious gift of human nature. Our need to touch and to be touched. All mothers need to hold our babies. All mothers need to protect our children. All mothers came into this world from a mother. All women are mothers whether we choose to have children or not. All fathers need to hold and protect their children. All fathers came into this world from a mother who made love with a father. All men are fathers whether they choose to have children or not. And we are all children. We are children who need to be held and protected and wanted. We need to touch. Humans need human touch. Humans need love. We need to give love and we need to feel love. This is our very essence. Love. Peace

Rashad, at her best, was BRILLIANT on this show -- definitely award-caliber work. Her sister, Debbie Allen, may be the dancer of the family, but Rashad is, without a doubt, the actress.
Oh, really? Yeah. Allen guest starred on one episode of The Cosby Show as a zealous and opinionated aerobics instructor to Claire when she was trying to lose a few pounds (maybe you've seen it). Rashad, was also billed as "Phylicia Ayers-Allen" on the credits for the first season or two until she married Ahmad Rashad.
+Andrew Wilson Lots of people smile when they're angry. My co-worker was smiling when we gave him a bunch of leftover cigarettes he didn't need, and he about a year later confessed he was actually pissed off when we did that. In hindsight, his smile did look fake... ;)
Actually, this reminds me of my classmates in 5th grade. They entered the talent show, danced in the fashion of Vanessa and her friends, and what song did they dance to? Supersonic. When the show ended and we went back to our classroom, the teacher was not pleased and had a talk with the girls in front of the entire class. She wasn't as theatrical as Claire Huxtable (though looking back, she should've been), but she gave them a piece of her mind when it came to their performance.
I’m 51. It seems some still have respect for themselves and their elders. You wouldn’t even curse in front of your parents. Respecting yourself and your elders seems to be a thing of the past. I talked to him, treated him with respect, demanded the same in return. I made it clear what behavior was unacceptable and never gave him a pass. I'd get on his ass and call him out on his bullshit. now that he's a man, he thanks me for raising him the way I did. and trust me, I'm crazy lol. major trauma and fuck ups in life but that taught me how to raise him. I wanted better for him than what I had and who I was. he's seen that side of me and knows better than to cross me. he never gave me attitude. Once, when he was 10, he sucked his teeth at me. Let's just say he never did it again. I snatched him up by his collar and asked him if he really wanted to go there. his eyes popped open, he said no and to this day, he hasn't even talked back or given me attitude. I've been his greatest influence because he was my greatest priority. every day, I tell him a few times how much I love him and how proud of him I am. I uplift him. I'm not here to break him down. the rest of the world will try to do that. I'm here to guide him, teach him and support him through everything. he's given me more than I've given him. he saved my life and gave it meaning. invest in your kids. fuck everybody else. they're a part of you. no matter the struggle. it's been hard but so worth it. (sorry for the novel. I was inspired lol)
Evette Rodriguez God has got to bless good mothers like you every second of the day. you don't know how refreshing it is to read a message like that nowadays because it's the absolute truth. Keep up the good work; because of you, a young lady will know a love like no other in your son. God bless you, your son, and your whole family. Stay anointed my sister.
Bravo Evette. Your son is 20. You have NO IDEA the dividends that your encouragement and support will pay:). At age 30 and 40 and 50 also. Your son is lucky. And the community is lucky too.
Cliff was looking away like "This is NOT MY daughter coming down the steps looking like this! NO daughter of MINE is doing this!! Not in MY HOUSE you don't!!!" A classic scene!!
She only got a 1400 score on her college entrance test (the SATs), and Claire considered that score to be low. She was saying Vanessa should have been more concerned with her studies. As for the "I've got your locomotion down here", that's more of a slang colloquialism
"The only part of clothing that you will be allowed to stuff things into will be your pockets." LOL I love Mrs. Huxtable. "Sondra's in the jungle, Denise is in the wilderness, and she's on the locomotion?!" "Learning your ABCs, Miss 1400 on the SATs?! I've got your locomotion down here in the living room with a science book!"
Today's kids need more parents like Claire Hustable. My mom (and dad) were like this too and we didn't get away with anything, but many decades later I can't thank them enough for being strong parents who handed out discipline and taught us responsibility, the importance of hard work and accountability. That is totally lacking among today's youth. Sad.
There are several episodes when Clair gets upset at Vanessa and raises her voice at her. For wearing makeup, here doing the locomotion, lying to them so she goes on a date with her boyfriend Jeremy, getting drunk, and of course, going to Baltimore, MD to see the wretched. But here, she not only gets mad at Vanessa, she gets upset at her friends Janet and Kara too. She tells them that even though she's not their mother, she knows she speaks for them, since they're are not appropriately dressed. She knows their mothers would've reacted the same way.
Mothers like this still very much exist. Its just that real parents are too busy actually parenting to report their every move on social media etc. Please don't think these parents are extinct, the media just prefers to glorify the negative stereotypes
I know this just a show but we still need parents like this today most parents nowadays let their kids get away with damn near everything it's not right at all
Yes. She was a true parent. Parents these days are too busy trying to be their children's friends instead of parents. That's what is wrong with the State of the World now.
I always thought that Claire was overreaching when she envisioned Vanessa saying,"Hi, Mom, Babe, let's do lunch!" As if Vanessa would ever call Claire , her MOTHER, Babe like some sleazy Hollywood Producer! 🥴
The mothers of today are trying hard to be young and stupid and making their daughters their best friend. My mother was that mom and she never let me believe I was at her level. End-result, I became a very productive man, retired at 55, married for 34 years and counting and have a beautiful daughter with two grandkids.
Sandra’s in the wilderness, Denise is in the jungle and Vanessa’s on the locomotion 🤣

Evette Rodriguez I wish you were my stepmum...
Bravo Evette. Your son is 20. You have NO IDEA the dividends that your encouragement and support will pay:). At age 30 and 40 and 50 also. Your son is lucky. And the community is lucky too.
Evette Rodriguez 👏👏👏👏👏 Alright now!!! That's how it supposed to be! Give love and teach respect and reap the benefits in the years to come. Love it!
Evette Rodriguez where was his father !
Clair is one of the most beautiful women that I’ve ever seen 😍😍. She’s so elegant.
CLIFF’S FACEEEE right before Claire turns the radio off is EVERYTHING 😂😂😂😂
Cliff was looking away like "This is NOT MY daughter coming down the steps looking like this! NO daughter of MINE is doing this!! Not in MY HOUSE you don't!!!" A classic scene!!
Ms 1400 on your s.a.t.s I got your locomotion down here!
2714shaun ...with a science book!!!😂😂😂 tell her Clair!
2714shaun What does that mean?
itsjemmabond that was one of Clair's lines 😂
5threat Yes, I know. But I'm British, and I've never heard that here before.
She only got a 1400 score on her college entrance test (the SATs), and Claire considered that score to be low. She was saying Vanessa should have been more concerned with her studies. As for the "I've got your locomotion down here", that's more of a slang colloquialism
Sondra is the wilderness, Denise is in the jungle, and Vanessa’s on the locomotion. Lmfaooooooo 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Auntie was over it hunny 😂😂
Sad.
The look on Clair’s face was priceless 😭😭😭😭
Girl in the middle wanted to laugh when Claire snatched the tissue out of Vanessa's top. 😂😂
Cliff looked away quick LOL
turbo 6 he was like lord my daughter and her friends are thots lol
He should’ve did that in his real life.
" And Don't Put Those Tissues Back In The Box Either!! " That Still Gets Me. L😂L!

Oh yes, Classic Clair! My favorite, though, is "...you can take whatever is in that account and DISCOVER America."
Lawd Vanessa always tried Clair!
"Hi mom, babe. Let's do lunch!" LMAOOOO!
And don’t put those tissues back in the box!! 😭😂😂😂😂😭
Well its April 2020 and we are in a World tissue shortage. She betta use that tissue.
Claire is SO adorable here! OMG!
Denise is in the jungle and Vanessa is on the locomotion...lol!
DON'T FORGET SANDRA IN THE WILDERNESS!!
wizarmatic At least Sandra was in college.
Back then moms knew how to raise children.
Vanessa was just different from the other kids. She was bold asf and tried it even when she couldn't. Savage😂 Claire is so cute when she's mad💖
The way Claire snatched the tissues out of Vanessa’s bra I died 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Back in 1989 when I saw this, that surprised the heck outta me.
We need more parents like that these days!!!!!
Flinging parts from one end to the other 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Claire embodies real beauty!
Mothers like this still very much exist. Its just that real parents are too busy actually parenting to report their every move on social media etc. Please don't think these parents are extinct, the media just prefers to glorify the negative stereotypes
I remember this like yesterday....😂😂😂😂😂.
So do I. It was so hilarious, yet so true because I've lived it to some degree.
I wish there were more mothers like Claire who lay down the law like she does with their kids! Hooray, Mrs. Huxtable! 🤗
I know this just a show but we still need parents like this today most parents nowadays let their kids get away with damn near everything it's not right at all
Yes.
She was a true parent. Parents these days are too busy trying to be their children's friends instead of parents. That's what is wrong with the State of the World now.
"AND DON'T PUT THOSE TISSUES BACK IN THE BOX"😂🤣😂🤣
I Wish I had a mom like Claire !
Claire almost broke character at 1:31
@TeenMomTo baby.J almost smiled
The way dad looked away 😂😂0:42
Big Mama Claire! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Lord knows we need her back!
CLAIR REMINDS ME OF THE WOMEN IN MY FAMILY LMAO CRAZY, SEXY AND FUNNY AND I AM TOO 😁
"Denise is in the jungle and she's on the locomotion" 😂 hahahahaha
"I'm not having it!" She was NOT PLAYING.
"Flinging parts from one end to the other"🤣🤣🤣
We need MORE PARENTING like this, because now I really not sure what some of today's parents are doing!!!
Claire the.best.tv.mom.ever
"Hi mom, babe. Let's do lunch"
"I'LL NOT HAVE IT!!!"
I always thought that Claire was overreaching when she envisioned Vanessa saying,"Hi, Mom, Babe, let's do lunch!" As if Vanessa would ever call Claire , her MOTHER, Babe like some sleazy Hollywood Producer! 🥴
@karicewillis lol that's how she landed that roll. She filled it so well
The mothers of today are trying hard to be young and stupid and making their daughters their best friend. My mother was that mom and she never let me believe I was at her level. End-result, I became a very productive man, retired at 55, married for 34 years and counting and have a beautiful daughter with two grandkids.
Claire is amazing !
