Because of you guys, I decided to give The Bear a try and omg... it destroyed me emotionally. I finished both seasons in just 2 days, and it's gets better and better with each episode. I thought I would watch it episodically with you guys (so every week), but I could not help myself, I just had to carry on without you 😂 I got so hooked to the characters and the story I just had to carry on 😂 but now knowing what I know watching your reactions will be even more fun. Just heads up, be prepared for Season 1 episode 7 and 8 and Season 2 episode 6 and 7... those episodes are god tier level.
@@BeaXRSmith yeah and I've seen it written down on some papers. It sounds like full name Carmine, informalized to Carmen and shortened/petname Carmy or Carm
I think this episode really lets Sydney shine, even in the chaos, and how this group just works with the addition of her. And how Camry comes to rely on her. Something I’m not sure you guys touched on it yet but one of my favorite things about this show is how real the dialogue is. It just works and feels like real people talking. Also I know you’re ahead I hope you guys realize it’s definitely Carmen, nicknames Carmy 😂
I love that this show deals with the damage to the restaurant business by Covid. Even after 4 years movies and shows haven’t really talked about that much.
Totally with Eric: Tina overheating a stock to split felt worse than anything Richie has done because incompetence in denial at least isn’t casual, vicious insubordination I also think the witch’s cauldron imagery is pretty provocative
calvin's stress levels from the very beginning are making me laugh but also i get it lmao i actually do the chest rub thing that carmy does and i didn't even realize it was a thing i'd been doing when i got super anxious until i saw him do it on this show and then i was like oh....i'm unwell lol
and a molly ringwald cameo out of nowhere. nico's reasoning for calling is visually answered when richie is seen in the parking lot making an exchange.
since Eric mentioned Ted Lasso, it's funny that I was thinking of that show when I binged The Bear. It's like approaching the same result from opposite ends. Ted's goal was not to win but to get the players to become a better version of themselves. The Bear did that too, though coming from the side of chaos.
Tina is a frustrating character right now, but her arc over this season and especially season two is a delight to see. This show is really dedicated to giving its characters rich inner lives and I love it!
Yeah, when Calvin comments about how he feels his stress getting cranked up watching those kitchen scenes, I can really relate! It's even harder for my wife. She had a step-father growing up that yelled a lot. After we watched the first episode, she wasn't sure if she would be able to watch the series because it was triggering her childhood related stress. 😞But our daughter had watched all the episodes and encouraged her that it was worth it. And it was!
I binged this show with my friends. There is an episode of season 2 that just felt like a building panic attack for an hour. Just... love this show so much.
@@dancer004 Ohh yeah the 7 Fishes episode was incredible and maybe the most stressful episode of television I have seen in a long time. Cannot wait their reaction to it.
Don’t you just love the music? I loved that talk between Carmy & Syd. She got him good with her response to his last minute AA meeting. JAW’s facial reaction was priceless.
I was very angry with Tina in the begining too, I did understand her insecurities but her actions pissed me off so bad lmao, I love that her story later on is so much better and heartwarming
the thing with tina .... so i imagine she's probably been the only woman in that kitchen for years and seeing a younger woman come in and immediately start making changes probably makes her feel like she's been overlooked and that sydney hasn't paid her dues by being in this kitchen for decades. i mean, yeah, she is definitely being needlessly mean here, but i think it's also important to remember the people in this kitchen are still grieving and they don't want change. especially ritchie and tina. but tina's also experiencing some internal misogyny too wrt sydney. i say all this since i know what happens later so lol hindsight is 20/20 for sure.
I think also she see's Sydney has gone to school and had all these experiences and oportunities to live her dreams and reach her full potential that probably felt out of reach or plain impossible to Tina.
I’ve worked in kitchens like this and knew so many middle-aged people grinding away, knowing that this grueling work will be their life until their body can no longer do it. It’s soul-crushing for most, so Tina’s attitude in this episode and arc throughout the series makes perfect sense and is really beautiful to see.
"Who doesn't close a box cutter" man you would have the time of your life in this one restaurant I've worked at, I have never NOT seen an open box cutter there

Not a single one of them are as stressful as an episode of the bear. 😂😂 It's insane. But also save a thought for the people that constantly work in kitchens like this. Give them a little Grace next time you're out eating.
(sorry this is long and no one will probably see it anyways. S1 and 2 spoilders) Something interesting i noticed is that even though Syd and Richie fight a lot, This is Syd's most stressful moment being in charge in S1 and Richie is barely in it and doesnt cause her any grief. Then, in S2 when Syd has to take charge of the kitchen again Richie steps into the role she needed in this epsiode of S1. I feel like S1 hinted at how they could be good friends, and in a lot of ways i feel like in a work environment Richie is better for Syd than Carmen (Carmen isnt good at being in charge and doesnt listen to others, while Richie is a support role and by the end of S2 does anything Syd needs which gives her space for decision making and ideas, while not leaving her overwhelmed)

I’m glad you brought up the vfx work. This show is a master class piece of work in every other way, but those fire effects are super fake and don’t get better lol.
I’ve been in a kitchen, it’s fucking crazy in there, especially in inner cities. Hazing is just part of it, you pay your dues. It seems cruel but it’s part of the process, you have to learn how to handle shit in that kind of environment, even at higher levels the shit talking doesn’t stop, but you really do become family, I’d die for a lot of chefs, they’d die for me. It’s paradoxical and yet it works. Tina, Richie, I’ve definitely met a lot of them in the kitchen, and I’ve loved them since ep1 because when you know their type in real life they’re amazing people.
Does anyone ever tell these reactors about the things they're totally completely wrong about? I know they don't read the comments, but is there someone in charge of saying "Uh guys that's not what Al-Anon is, like, at all." or "His name is Carmen, not Carmine"?
al anon isn't aa. al anon is completely different. al anon is for family members of someone who has addiction issues. It's embarrassing to think it's the same thing
it makes sense why they would think that. aa means alcoholics anonymous, so for al anon which also means al(coholics) anon(ymous), it just sounds like it’s the exact same thing but using a different abbreviation.
Not everyone knows everything. Fortunately, some people don't have family members with addiction issues so they wouldn't have to know the difference between two very SIMILAR names. Get off your high horse and actually go do something constructive.
also they literally showed nico in this episode guys, richie was talking to him when carm came back from his meeting/panic attack. and no, the guy wasn't a project manager that was helping mikey, a drug addict with a failing business, to set up a new restaurant 🤣
