George Strait doesn't just sing about being a cowboy, he lives the life. Strait, along with his son Bubba, is a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). Strait and his brother Buddy started the George Strait Team Roping Classic competition.
"I'll be looking for 8 when they pull that gate." That comes from the 8 seconds needed to stay on a bull. This song was THE rodeo song played for every high school rodeo or county fairs events in the Southern US in the 80s and 90s.
This is George Strait’s signature song. One of the most iconic rodeo songs ever. One of the most dangerous sports on the planet. Not a question of whether you are going to get hurt, just a question of when. Searching for 8 refers to the fact that you have to stay on for a minimum of 8 seconds to have a qualified ride. Hope that judge ain’t blind refers to the fact that a judge vives a rating for the ride sort of like gymnastics or ice skating at the Olympics. Most rodeo riders don’t make a lot of money. You have to pay an entrance fee, for all your own equipment and all your expenses. The riders get paid on a sliding scale sort of like they do in golf. A piece of the overall prize money. You don’t have to win first to get some prize money, But only those who consistently place high make a lot of money. Few rodeo riders get rich. Rodeo riders also have a reputation for relationship problems. Being away from home so much, financial insecurity, and danger of injury play havoc on relationships. George has competed in team calf roping and sponsors a team roping Classic each year. He also owns a working ranch near San Antonio, where he raises cattle and horses. George has over 50 # 1 releases, more than any other artist in history. Hé one of the most prolific country singers in the business.
And, not just when but how many times. I've known bull riders that have forgotten how many and which bones they have broken. I suspect arthritis is a major issue for retired bull-riders.
You are so right about George’s voice. A couple of suggestions (since I’m a Texas girl); “All My Exes Live in Texas” and “I Cross My Heart”. It’ so hard to name just two, but I will ‘til next time :) You might look up a list of his greatest hits and after you have reacted to so many, you could listen to him all day. :) i haven’t ever done any rodeo stuff, but my grand dad was a REAL cowboy. He would have turned 100 in 2006, so he was a cowboy way back. He ran away from home at 14 and went to work on a ranch. Story is he rodeoed (not sure what) when he was younger. I HAVE seen him break a horse in and we kept my horse at their ranch when I was growing up. :)
This is my all time favorite George Strait songs!!! My Dad lives in San Antonio and was the general manager of a local restaurant. They weren't "close friends" but they became friends. Dad said he was a down to earth kinda guy. Kinda cool! Unfortunately, he lost his daughter in a vehicle accident. "Shortly before midnight on June 25, 1986, in San Marcos, Texas, a tragedy happened that would forever change the Strait family’s lives. George Strait’s daughter Jenifer Lyn Strait was riding with her three friends when a driver lost control of his Ford Mustang as he tried to take a turn too quickly. The car rolled over, south of San Marcos, not far from where the singer lives."
George Strait retired, he recently came out of retirement and is performing again. This month he is in Atlanta. Just to give you an idea of how we love him, the floor seats are $1200.00. And he sold out. Love King George!
George was never known as a great entertainer. But, with 51 songs that hit #1 on the charts, he's certainly is The King. He also dabbled in acting a few times, and did a great job. His concerts weren't on the exciting side, though he could stand a sing hit after hit after hit. I love most of his work.
It’s a part of our culture here in Texas. I rode horses in rodeo for several years since I was 7 y/o. Nothing like bull riding but it’s always exciting to see all the different events. It really is a cultural experience you should check out if you ever come to Texas.
King George!!! This is the perfect Texas Two-step song. I learned to dance with my father watching George Strait when he was the lead singer of Ace in the Hole around 1978 at Gruene Hall.
As an old Amarillo girl, I went to school with some of the ranch boys who enjoyed participating in local and regional rodeo events. I still enjoy watching a bit on tv now and then. This song is fantastic. I'd love to see you react to Garth Brooks' song, ''''They Call the Thing Rodeo."
This is by no means the greatest song of all time, however it is my personal favorite song of all time! That should say a lot because I am a huge '70s rock fan.
Thank you for reacting to George. He's incredible. I actually have his autograph on my cowboy boot. I've seen him four times. We kind of consider him a demi god here in Texas. 🤠👌
I have been a George Strait fan since his debut in the 1980's. And this song was my introduction to him, and after that I consumed everything he did until his retirement. Glad you enjoy his music as well. He is a straight up good guy, and great musician. Peace.
@@kimwatchesstuff He retired from full blown touring. He now does a very limited number of shows, mostly in Texas I think. He says he wants to focus on doing one album a year. Don't know how that is working out.

Aww just your description of George Strait’s voice is absolutely correct. I have been thrown from a horse but it wasnt while bronc riding 😂. Troubadour by George Strait is another good one ❤️

George Strait’s son has also shown talent as a songwriter."
The man I met after my husband passed away took me see George Strait and LeeAnn Womack for our first date.. I'm still with him almost 15 yrs later.. great memory.
I first saw George Strait at a Willie Nelson concert. He was the opening act. So good but unknown. The crowd kept screaming and yelling for Willie. I said to my sister, this guy is really good if they’d just listen. The rest is history. Wasn’t long and they were screaming for George.
I've liked George from the start. I used to listen to American Country Countdown on the USA military radio network in Tokyo (FEN--later AFN) every weekend. George Strait had songs on the charts all through the '80s and '90s. The first CDs I ever bought were the soundtrack to his movie "Pure Country" and a box set of four titled "Straight Out of the Box".
You’re so right about his voice...it’s full, rich and smooth as silk! I suggest that you check out “Cross My Heart”. It’s a song from a movie that he starred in called “Pure Country”. It’s my personal favorite of his songs and he did a good job acting too!

I read somewhere that Reba McIntyre was discovered singing the Anthem at a rodeo - she participated in roping calves, if I’m not mistaken. These cowboys are an orthopedic surgeon’s dream.😁

You are right about an Orthopedic dream! My cousin spent his whole life bucking bareback broncs across the country. He broke just about every bone in his body, including his back, and kept on rodeoing 😬
I saw George back in the early days of his career. He was so thankful for his fans and treated them so well. He had a line waiting for autographs before he ever went on stage. He went over and signed them until they made him go onstage. He announced that he would sign autographs after he finished the concert and he stayed to sign every last one.
Yes I could never get enough of The King George Strait. He has many great songs. I've only rode the mechanical bull it was fun. Another great song from King George. The Chair, Troubadour, You look so good in love..
I rode Broncs, and Bulls in High School and did some Bulldogging at the county fair. Was fun, but the bulls that are in the top contenders, for the best in the world Bull Riders are a hole different animal !!!!
Not only is he the King of Country but he is From Texas like I am and Houston has one of the biggest rodeos in the world called Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. There are some other really great Texas Country artists like Cody Johnson, he used to actually participated in rodeos but don't remember in what, who wrote "Welcome to the Show" that is now the opening song for the Houston Rodeo and is an amazing song. He has several great songs.
I saw George Strait in 1986 in Tyler, Texas in the Oil Palace. Just after that I learned to dance C&W; The first dance was the two step to All My Exes. That's when I met my wife; that was our second dance. C&W was very popular then and people danced the Cotton Eyed Joe, the four corners, the western swing, the shodess, the two step, three step. All my exes was the two step.
This song is one of many reasons he's called The King Of Country💕 I can listen to him sing anytime anywhere and never get tired 🤗 great reaction! Keep up the good work 💯❤️🌷💕🥰💪
You spoke to the heart of George Strait without realizing it. You said he’s “Pure Country”. Watch his movie of that title, the King, Cowboys and his great music and he gets the girl.
Song writer, Cory Mayo wrote "You'll Be There" after losing his father. He knew George Strait wanted to record it, so he held it until George was ready. George said this song reminds him of his daughter Jenifer Lyn. I though you might want to check it out after hearing that his daughter passed away at an early age. It's a beautiful song!!! June 2024 No one can ever sing like my favorite King George Strait. Every song is just taking my breath away. Love you George Strait ❤❤❤❤❤ best of the best!
I have loved George Strait since the 1970's when he was just the lead singer for Ace in the Hole, his band, before he broke out at the Houston Rodeo as a replacement for Eddie Rabbitt. I sat on the edge of the stage not 4' from him when he played in Huntsville, Texas, at 16th Street Station. Some of the best two-stepping music to dance to. I'm partial to his early songs, like 'Blame it on Mexico', 'Marina del Ray', 'Oceanfront Property', 'Baby Blue'. And, from Heartland, 'The Man in Love with You'.
I live in a small farming community on the Florida/Alabama line. We have a yearly Rodeo. When I lived in Montana we had a rodeo every Friday and Saturday night. For a boy, staying on top of a bull for 8 seconds is a right of passage. There are alot of great Rodeo songs. Love George and "Amarillo By Morning" Another one you will love is "I Can Still Make Cheyanne" King George has 60 number one hits!!!!!! He also has a yearly rodeo.
Hey... I live in Amarillo. George is a legend. Lots of farming and ranching in this area. Lots of nothing also. I grew up 100 miles from here in a town with about 1000 people.
We are a rodeo family. All of us. I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t at a rodeo from Friday to Sunday. Now my grandkids ride with me. It’s amazing. This song is an anthem. I met my husband the month this song came out and we got married three weeks later. That was 40 years ago. George is great.
I rode crab boats in the Bering Sea, figured I just about hit the epitome of being a man. My kid noticed...started riding bulls to one up the old man, terribly proud of him....I could never do it.
This song is addictive! I played it so many times late one night that I looked up to find my mother in my doorway ready to beat me up with a bedroom shoe. She's been gone 12 years, now, but the memory surfaces every time I hear this song. Sweet! LOL...Literally!!!!
Most all these clips are of George on the rodeo circuit . His son is following in his footsteps. George was 37 in this video. He is now 69. Even more handsome now with a fine tuned voice to match. One of my all time favorite Country Gentleman Singers of all time.
Look at that baby face! These rodeo clips are George. He is a real singing cowboy.... going to ride in a rodeo in Amarillo. I fell in love with him years ago when I heard 'Nobody in their right mind would have left her". Yummmmmmmmmmmm
HEY CRAIG, JOE REINEL HERE FYI GEORGE DID RODEO IN HIS YOUNGER DAYS. ALSO YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT A SONG '' RUN '' I THINK YOU LL LIKE IT . Thank you for reacting to country music. I grew up on this stuff and it will always be near and dear to my ❤️. This is my favorite Strait song. Close second is “You Look So Good In Love.”
I've seen King George two times in Kansas City Missouri..puts on a 2 hour plus show ..and in July he is playing at Arrowhead Stadium this summer..thanks .
Most of the 6 times I saw George throughout my life were at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and one of his signature moves is he always rides up to the stage on Horseback. He is a true Texas Cowboy and will be till he dies. The great thing about George was in Concert he stood on the stage with his guitar in front of a mic and sang, that's all he did, no light show, no back up dancers, no theatrics....just him, his voice, and his guitar. And he had one of the biggest careers in Country Music. The man could ride a horse like nobody's business, it was awesome just to watch him. I was a member of the FFA in school in Texas and participated in Jr. Rodeo's so I've roped calves (2 member team) and I barrel raced until I was 18. But yeah riding horses to us was just natural where we grew up in rural Texas, it was like city folks having a dog. lol I live in NC now but I live on a 500 acre Horse Ranch.
"Troubadour" is my favorite!! A seriously great song. 🎶🎶 "Cross My Heart" is another good one, for sure! ❤ If you want to chuckle, listen to "All My Exes Live in Texas"! 😉
I grew up with a dad who listened to country music. Couldn't understand his love of the music because he wasn't a country boy, lol. As a girl that grew up on the beaches of California, I was a die-hard rocker and hated country music until my late 20's. Thankfully, artists I started hearing in the late 1970's opened my eyes to the wonder of country music. Dolly was first which led to my love of the (outlaws) bad boys of country Waylon, Willie, Merle, Johnny, Marty, Hank, etc. As a result, country music has just become another genre of music that I love.
I grew up near Sun Valley, Idaho. Our High Schools had options. My cousins lettered in rodeo. I lettered in small bore target shooting, another downhill skiing. There are still places in America where that lifestyle thrives.
when u said u could listen to George all day it would take that long to get through half his songs he has so many, love your reactions mate, keep em coming
Classic country song from the king George another fab song of his is I cross my heart !A classic country song I love is The keeper of the heart by Tracy Byrd ,such a fab song .great reaction Craig 👍🇬🇧
I don't have to ride a bronking horse to break my leg. In the hospital right now after falling off a ladder. You need to hear Baby Blue..a beautiful song
I'm from Texas. In the early 90's everybody used to call him King George. My uncle and one of my cousin's husband used to ride broncos. My uncle was a teenager and got hurt pretty bad. My grandma put her foot down and wouldn't let him ride anymore. My cousin's husband tightened his rope too tight around his hand. He fell off and two of his fingers stayed on the horse. They couldn't sew them back on.
George competes in Roping competitions. I've ridden a PBR Bull - made it 5.3 seconds before my free hand hit the bull. Bareback have made it 8 seconds a few times. I've done a lot of Ranch Rodeo events - team penning, roping, cutting, wild horse riding Any Rodeo event is terrifyingly amazing.
I was once married to a fellow that was a bull rider (actually more of a bull fall-offer) at a few small rodeos and practice arenas. I remember dreading watching it because I feared for him so much. I am from San Antonio but now live in Colorado. I've been to Amarillo several times by morning on trips driving home from visiting family. I was blessed to see him in concert in Witchita Falls, Texas back in the 80s. No spectacular showy fireworks or gimmicks, just he, his band and pure country music. He's the king.
This is the song that turned me on to country music over 40 years ago. It was played at a local honky tonk. The first night I went, I learned to dance to it. George released it a few years later. Not sure how old it is, or who may have recorded it previously. But King George does it best.
Another great reaction to another great George Strait song. Another one you might want to add to your list of George songs is "I've Got a Car" it's a great story song. Have a great day.
His voice is Sunshine dipped in honey. Feel free to borrow that one. This is a western song which is it's own genre. For more great westerns try I can still make Cheyenne by George and El Paso by Marty Robbins.
If you ever find yourself with a chance to watch a traditional rodeo... do it. It's an experience. If you find a chance to see a 'Ranch Rodeo' those are fun as well, you don't see the bull riding or bucking bronc's (horses) but you get to see things that are based on what ranch cowboys do. An example is calf branding... they have to rope a calf, run over to a bucket filled with chalk and a branding iron... time stops when the chalked iron hits the calf's skin.
George has said if he wasn't singing he would have liked to just do rodeos. He is really the KING! You've GOT to listen to "Marina Del Rey" "All My Exes" and "Ocean Front Property" "The Fireman" "The Chair" "Seashores of Old Mexico" For someone else to listen to, I think you would also really like Clint Black. When he came out I at first thought it was George. Some of his songs are "Desperado" "Killin Time" "When I Said I Do" "A Better Man" " State of Mind" Please give him a listen. You won't be disappointed.
the prettiest country fiddle you will ever hear, worth the price of admission, and George sings pretty good too.

Two of my favourite songs from George Strait is 1. Baby Got Good At Goodbye 2. The Chair

FYI, 4:42 that is actually George Strait team roping.
My friend would agree with you about George's voice. She has seen him 27 times!
My favorite song by him.❤
You are exactly right brother Taylor.!
I rode crab boats in the Bering Sea, figured I just about hit the epitome of being a man. My kid noticed...started riding bulls to one up the old man, terribly proud of him....I could never do it.
❤
This song is addictive!
I played it so many times late one night that I looked up to find my mother in my doorway ready to beat me up with a bedroom shoe. She's been gone 12 years, now, but the memory surfaces every time I hear this song. Sweet! LOL...Literally!!!!
George and his brother were team ropers .
George strait had 60 number one hits
Most all these clips are of George on the rodeo circuit . His son is following in his footsteps. George was 37 in this video. He is now 69. Even more handsome now with a fine tuned voice to match. One of my all time favorite Country Gentleman Singers of all time.
Look at that baby face! These rodeo clips are George. He is a real singing cowboy.... going to ride in a rodeo in Amarillo.
I fell in love with him years ago when I heard 'Nobody in their right mind would have left her". Yummmmmmmmmmmm

Thank you for reacting to country music. I grew up on this stuff and it will always be near and dear to my ❤️. This is my favorite Strait song. Close second is “You Look So Good In Love.”
This happens to be one my personal favorites of his .
I've seen King George two times in Kansas City Missouri..puts on a 2 hour plus show ..and in July he is playing at Arrowhead Stadium this summer..thanks
.
"Cross My Heart" is another good one, for sure! ❤
If you want to chuckle, listen to "All My Exes Live in Texas"! 😉
I loved seeing him at the MGM Grand in vegas. It's worth the cost to see him in concert!
George strait, the King of country music, All My ex's live in Texas, the fireman, overnight mail, Adeline, the list goes on forever.
That’s right
I grew up near Sun Valley, Idaho. Our High Schools had options. My cousins lettered in rodeo. I lettered in small bore target shooting, another downhill skiing.
There are still places in America where that lifestyle thrives.
Love without end amen is a great song
when u said u could listen to George all day it would take that long to get through half his songs he has so many, love your reactions mate, keep em coming
So sorry you fell---🙏 for your complete recovery!!
Its a Thrill to watch rodeo from the stands❤
One of the BEST singers male in country music!! Awesome song and reaction!!❤️
George Strait, sang and starred in a great country movie, "Pure Country".
George competes in Roping competitions.
I've ridden a PBR Bull - made it 5.3 seconds before my free hand hit the bull.
Bareback have made it 8 seconds a few times.
I've done a lot of Ranch Rodeo events - team penning, roping, cutting, wild horse riding
Any Rodeo event is terrifyingly amazing.
He finishes his concerts with “The Cowboy Rides Away”. Another great song.
Mr. Strait has a smooth voice
Almost as smooth as Mr. Ray Price.
The first George Strait song I ever listened to was Baby Blue. My second older brother did it he said that it did hurt a lot when he got hurt.
Who sang Amarillo by morning in the early 70's
@@sarahheath9831 George Strait😀
….I’ll be looking for 8 when they pull the gate…
Perfect!!
If you haven't listened to Love Without End by George Strait, you really should...it's incredible...
Yes awesome voice and a true cowboy I used to barrel race rodeos are real country folks fun
❤
Another great reaction to another great George Strait song. Another one you might want to add to your list of George songs is "I've Got a Car" it's a great story song. Have a great day.
In case you didn't know, George Straight rode in the rode himself.
I didn't do it myself, but my baby brother did. He got a bull horn through his shoulder before he stopped.
The fireman
George has said if he wasn't singing he would have liked to just do rodeos. He is really the KING! You've GOT to listen to "Marina Del Rey" "All My Exes" and "Ocean Front Property" "The Fireman" "The Chair" "Seashores of Old Mexico" For someone else to listen to, I think you would also really like Clint Black. When he came out I at first thought it was George. Some of his songs are "Desperado" "Killin Time" "When I Said I Do" "A Better Man" " State of Mind" Please give him a listen. You won't be disappointed.
Clint Black is a talented singer that is often overlooked. Great suggestions.
