- Hi y'all, so this is my first video on youtube! Hope you like it! Tell me if you want more vids like this one and other tutorials! Tried to do this as satisfying as possible, hahah, guess I still have a lot of work to do.

UPDATE: the acrylic paint on my shoes has actually cracked a bit and I‘m honestly scared to wash them though it should all be waterproof. If you want to try to paint your own shoes please use either fabric paint or mix the acrylic paint with some fabric medium. There will also come a video soon where I compare acrylic paints with fabric paints!

Try mixing your acrylic paint with fabric painting medium next time. The brand Liquitex makes a good one. The medium helps the paint adhere to the fabric better and helps prevent cracking.
I recommend Angelus 2 - Soft but I’m 99% sure you have to use Angelus paint with it but I haven’t tried it yet.
I painted on jeans with acrylics and it washes very well ! It crackels because it is solid on a moving surface, but should still be waterproof and After some time it will be less still and will stop crackeling
I spray painted my Converse. Now they are rock solid.

Is apple barrel acrylic paint a good paint to use for this diy? Do you have to seal it? How do you seal it if you have to?

Hey, little tip, if you wanna clean the white plastic part to make them look like new here's what you do: take one scoop of washing powder and put it a old container or cup. Add some hot water (about a cups worth but it doesn't have to be accurate) and mix. Take an old toothbrush to scrub the mixture onto the rubber and then wipe it thoroughly off with an old towel or tea towels or some paper towels. And hey presto, they look like new. I've done this trick for so many cheap second hand canvas shoes and they look like I got them brand new.

Or you can also use toothpaste and rub it with an old toothbrush then wipe it with damp cloth
you can also use baking soda + hydrogen peroxide and a toothbrush. it’s the best method i’ve tried. i then soak the laces in bleach. brand new. 🥰
This is amazing, I need to try some of these methods! I'm very messy and manage to get my shoes dirty VERY quickly, so something like these would be very helpful 😅 :T

Just something to note for people wanting to try this, they make specific paints and dyes for modifying your shoes whether leather or fabric, these paints don't crack like acrylic paints and they're much more durable! Would highly recommend using those instead of generic paints
What do u call them?
I bought some fabric medium to mix with my acrylic paints for projects like this, will that also work?
@@tinx713 not sure on that one. I just know that acrylic alone will solidify the fabric. It's better to dye them, but if you want to paint, your best bet is gonna be canvas or fabric specific paint
You're totally wrong, you need to add a softener like Angelus 2 Soft anytime that you're applying acrylic paint (no matter what kind of acrylic paint it is, and there's pretty much just the acrylic type) to fabric or else it WILL harden and crack.

One question, does the acrylic color go away with water or other things ? What's the difference with Fiber paint ?? Thanks...
Once acrylic colors are completely dried on fabric they get waterproof, but if you for example make a mistake whilst painting and want to remove some paint you can try to rub it with alcohol or acetone
Acrylic paints are actually similar to fiber paints, but the biggest difference is that the acrylic colors harden more whilst fiber paints stay rather soft, I could maybe make a video on painting the same thing with acrylics and fiber paints and comparing them

@@sofie6828 I USED POSTER PAINT.. MY WHITE CONVERSE IS SO DIRTY OUTSIDE AND IT'S NOT EASY TO CLEAN IT... SO I PAINTED IT AND MADE IT LIKE A GALAXY.
I like what you did! I also saw the spray paint mention making shoes hard. Here is a medium you can get at Michaels, Hobby Lobby etc that you mix with your liquid paint that keeps the fabric supple. They also have a medium that you can use with acrylics to paint leather. Hope this helps someone! ❤️
these are really nice one tip tho get some gac 900 to soften the paint and help reduce cracking

Cane you name the brand of paint you she cause I’ve been trying to find a good acrylic paint to buy in bulk and I can’t find any. Also if you could list the pen you used cause I have no idea what the name to it is called
I actually used various brands, but I can list you some I've been using: "el Greco", "Van Bleiswijck" (the bog ones you can see in the beginning of the video), "Artist" (they're from a local shop here, so I'm not sure if you can buy them online) and "Primo" (the golden color). They're mostly any paints I could find, so they're not really that expensive and they still worked pretty nice, so I think it doesn't really matter which brand you gonna buy, pretty much any would work! And regarding the pen, it was from "Staedtler" (a permanent marker in size F), hope I could help! :)

I painted my shoe many years ago... I also did a iron on , a MacDonald, on T-shirt. Shoe painting is an amazing experience.

Tip from an old-school punker...just use colored Sharpies, and spray with silicone water-proofing. No cracking, and Chucks won't cook your feet. Use white Chucks, of course🤓

What brand was that black paint and does the color stay on if water gets on it ??
Well, I actually didn't take just black paint, I rather mixed the previous, lighter colors darker. For mixing I think I used black paint from either "el Greco" or "Artist", but both are from local shops here, so I'm not really sure if u can find them somewhere online, but I'm sure any other black paint will make it too (also these weren't really expensive so..). And regarding the water resistance of the shoes, I didn't were them in the rain yet and I also didn't wash them yet, so I can't rlly tell you if the color is 100% waterproof. I mean it's said that acrylic paint should actually be waterproof on fabric when completely dried, so I'm sure it kinda is, but I can update you as soon as tried it out! Hope I could help somehow tho

yeah you should better use fabric paint! I looked at the shoes lately and they do crack a bit when I bend them :/

What paint did you use? Did you mix something to make the paint fabric material or for it not to crack on the canvass?
No I just used regular acrylic paint, didn‘t mix it with anything and the dried paint still didn‘t crack
