So this morning, as I was walking through the fields, I had a strange feeling that we should take care of the tender paddy plants in the fields these days, so the elderly men go to paddy fields before sunrise. Looking at a paddy is so mesmerizing like wondering how a child grows... so I forget what I was saying when I remember the paddy field...
I went to harvest some coffee in our big brother's garden, at last today I found time for it, among never ending housework. When the coffee blooms, the whole area smells so intensly... I love the smell. When I saw the bouquets of white coffee flowers I plucked a flower tucked it on my head. No matter how mature we are, at times, we unknowingly do the things we used to do when we were little, Not only the coffee blossoms, the fresh red ripened coffee beans...!! When we were little we take mouthful of ripened coffeebeans chew the fleshy parts and blow the rest of the bitter seeds out....making a noise.
So I plucked all the ripened coffeebeans. I must tell you I learned to make coffee this way from my mother.
Although we live in Maggona my mother is from Kegalle, upcountry where it's famous for coffee. My granny's house was on a big coffee estate among other fruit trees. My mother says when they pluck ripened coffeebeans they boil them on copper vessels, everyone in the area used to do like that it seems...so they boil, dry them in the sun and grind and sell....my mother says she used to buy material to sew her dresses with that money....how nice 😊but now we don't have enough even for our use...times have changed such a lot....now we have so much of work apart from looking after kids...hardly any time...😢
When we make coffee at home, everyone wants different tastes, I prefer light brown coffees that do not darken the coffee too much, I like to make different coffees with different tastes at the same time, rather than drinking the same taste every day, The kids love it too, even those who come home love these different taste coffees.So I made black ginger and coriander flavored coffee. Then already it was a little late night when I finished everything....
I got up early in the morning and poured my favorite brown coffee on and drank it. If you have a hot coffee in the chilly morning it's a sweet sensation...
I thought I'd make something special for dinner , so I wanted to make COFFEE CHICKEN for the evening because there's coffee, so my little boy has a great passion for these type if rare dishes. I get help for everything from my little daughter at times she mourns but this way she learns too..
For a change I thought I would use Aga Jelly which my Muslim friend gave. So I add aga, spices and milk together which my kids loved so much...
So another new day, had to treat the new vegetable patches too...my husband (who is navy soldier) helped me in the planting new vegetables before he left. He wanted me to look after the plants well until he returns ..He had bought few chocolates and dates as treats for kids...I kept them hidden as eating sweets too much is not healthy, so as soon as kids saw the sweets they couldnt bare waiting any longer...I gave the dates to deseed they have eaten half...😊 Thinking that I wanted to do something different, that my kids likes a lot...made a dessert with dates, chocolate, peanuts ...this is normally made in european countries....and decorated with the orange that my kids' father brought, some berries from the backyard...Oh kids said it was sooo tasty, but didn't give them much as it was too sweet....🍰
