    Good and sound tips Scott. It’s amazing how just simple things can change your photography and the look of images. Thanks for sharing mate, great video 👍🙏

      Thanks Adrian, sometimes simple is best. I say that as I sit here looking at a fifty year old 300mm lens that I am going to attempt to do some wildlife photography with... and wondering what I got myself into!😂 Cheers mate, have a great week👍

    Sound advice Scott. Changing focal length/lenses for environmental composition, and using monochrome when faced with dull light are great reminders to ensure variety and enjoyment.

      Thanks for watching. As wildlife photographers we don't seem to change techniques as often as, for instance landscape photographers who have to when conditions dictate. I have to say some of my most surprising images have turned up when switching to black and white or shooting wide. Cheers!🙏👍

      Cheers Ted, I know what you mean! I think people often look to new kit for improvement when as you say there are things you can do to improve with little or no cost other than a bit of time. Thanks for watching🙏👍

    Great video Scott. Getting eyelevel has to be the one for me. It does two things not only does it make the connection with the subject, but most of the time it will put the background further into the distance and isolate the subject. Cheers Keith

    Very informative video Scott, the section on expo. compensation have also found changing to spot metering especially when you are anticipating lighter subjects ( like Little Egret, Barn Owl...) a very fast way to get on to a subject when you have only seconds to play with. Also very similar to you ground sheet recommendation have found a camo. poncho a very useful piece of kit to throw into the camera bag ( big enough to stop the damp and brakes the human outline up for a make shift hide. Cheers. 👍

      Hi Glenn, you are spot on! No pun intended! I suspect I may end up doing a complete video on the differing metering modes, use of histogram etc. I decided to concentrate on one element for this video as I suspect this is an area that really confuses some photographers especially when your getting started. Nice tip on the poncho as well I suspect this will pack up smaller than the groundsheet if your pushed for space! Cheers!🙏👍

    What a superb video Scott, I can use all those tips, many times have I been searching in the viewfinder for a subject and you lose your chance of a shot. Re exposure compensation, I have really been getting into it this year. The image you shared of the dark bird against a blue sky, you have to over expose to bring out the detail right? Also with the Barn Owl being a white bird would you then under expose? Really brilliant video Mate 📸👍🏽

    • @scotttilleyphotography
      @scotttilleyphotography  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Lee, you are coorect with regard to the dark bird. The camera will try and darken any area it sees as lighter than 18% grey so over expose to lift the brightness back up. Also correct with the barn owl depending on the background. If its dark then the camera will brighten everything potentially blowing out any bright highlights on the owl. Of course you could go the route of using spot metering or centre weighted but that's a totally different video mate!👍

    Hi Scott. Have you ever checked your Sony camera & lens for focus accuracy? Have you used AF micro adjustment to correct any inaccuracy?

    • @scotttilleyphotography
      @scotttilleyphotography  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, thanks for watching. I haven't since I switched to Sony. I think the last time I did this was with my Canon and a sigma telephoto lens.👍

    • @eust785
      @eust785 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      we shoot with the same body & lens. If you find in your menu AF micro adjustment (tab 2 page 8. I think) if you turn it on will it allow you to change the 0 to another number, or is the adjustment still greyed out like on mine. It says something like 'lens unsupported' or similar. I think its got something to do with registering the lens to the body??

    I have been looking for a tarp like yours for a while . Most of them are made from woven plastic material that makes a horrid noise & slip when you sit on them. can you tell me what yours is made from & where you purchased it? I find the material to be important, as you want it light enough to carry, yet heavy enough to be comfortable when you lie or sit on it.

      Hi, it has been years since I bought this one and unfortunately it doesn't have any markings on it. However, looking at its construction I probably got it from anchor supples (ex army gear) Couldn't find anything there these days but I put a link here as to some similar gear. I suspect it's part of a military Basha? Hope this helps. www.survivalaids.com/sleeping-shelter/survival-bags-shelters/bashas-ponchos
