I appreciate the hand rub satin finish. If you haven't hand sanded a knife you don't know how tedious it can be. $150 for what is possibly hours of extra work. There is a good reason why you don't see hand rubbed satin finish on production knives.
I really want to get on his books this next time around. Daniel seems like such a nice guy. He responded to my questions about one of his builds a little bit ago. Awesome knife. Just awesome, Nick. Congratulations on the score and great review.
I snagged one from his more limited custom option drops, which came with golf putter milling. The base price was $500 without timascus and for that price, it’s an absolute steal.
I’m sure somebody else has already mentioned this, but the Chris Reeve Sebenza 31 joined the Inkosi and Umnumzaan in its use of the ceramic detent ball doubling as the knife’s lock interface..
Watching this video while playing with the Liong Mah Field Duty, speaking of epic flicking and shutting action. That thing is so beautiful and now on my list for the day I'm ready to spend $800 for a knife.
I like this knife a lot, and the full custom book orders is something I wish makers would do far more often rather than maker’s choice. But secondary prices are just atrocious, I have no idea where some of these people arrived at their prices (beyond “I bought it on the secondary”) but no, just no. There’s no justification for over double table when a maker is still active and still producing that model. It’s a different story altogether when it’s something like a Loveless knife but these scalpers aren’t selling museum pieces.
Beautiful knife, and it has the virtue of making me think the Norseman I just bought is actually a decent value. Spidey flick looks like a winner, but I'm thinking thumb-flick deployment for my Sasquatch paws would be challenging. Nick, can you comment in general terms about whether that type of hand-rubbed blade finish is more vulnerable to incipient scratchitude?
OH MY GOD! I WOULD NEVER whine about a knife price, because I can respect the work the makers puts in to the object even if it’s something I will most likely never own.
In Dan's video, the knife he was disassembling had a washer because it was carbon fiber. He said there wouldn't be a washer on any that were other material besides cf.
I could of got on the books recently but I declined due to the limited options offered. A satin finish wasn’t available. I understand the makers limitations but at that price I want the nicest finish and anodized hardware,
I wish I could see a knife with real engineering in it. I feel like it's all these titanium custom pieces that are only slightly better than production with 3x the cost. Like I was looking at Demko's knife with it's ridiculous stock thickness, which is dumb because the pivot point would for sure break first under a lateral load. Really the failure load of the two should be about equal.
Unfortunately you picked the beadblasted finish. That finish looks understated. You don’t really expect to see a beadblasted finish on a 700.00 $ pocket knife. I think the polished titanium with a pattern was 50.00$ more. I believe. This knife reminds me of Shirogorov in that you really have to pay extra for the nice details that should be standard. I think the Roosevelt is cool. But I think it’s overpriced. Lots of the knives we really want are overpriced. Koenig, Shirogorov, and Oz Machine knives are all over priced. But I still want one. Awesome review Nick
The VBR is an awesome knife that I really love. If the VBR was made in the US it would be 700.00$ also. It’s 350.00 because it’s made in China. But Reate did an amazing job on that knife.
Between the super thin edge geometry and substantial amount of belly, that particular blade shape will make very short work of virtually every general edc task you can imagine. It’s infinitely more slicey and performance oriented than just about any tanto on earth, yet I EDC a Signature Series Microtech Ultratech DLC coated Hellhound because I absolutely LOVE the aesthetic and the authoritative “THWACK!” sensation that I feel and hear whenever I deploy or retract the blade. In fact, I love those aspects of the knife so damn much that I am willing to overlook how thick my Hellhound is behind the edge, as well as it’s lack of belly with it being a tanto and all.. So to answer your question, ultimately even if the blade shape weren’t a particularly useful one (it is a VERY useful blade shape, but I digress) it really wouldn’t matter. As my Hellhound demonstrates, a knife can speak to you for reasons other than just how easily it slices through various materials.
@@evanacey1414 THANK YOU, a man who knows perfection. The grind on this blade is second to none--- both razor thin and strong-spined, not for hard use but no gent's knife either. The handle is beautifully machined, light, and comfy; the clip is perfect; the choil luscious, and the movement is stellar.
Handsomeknife but that is a lazy lanyard hole. Surprised Nick didn’t point that out. Actually, I’m surprised Nick didn’t request a lanyard hole delete.
The blade finish, at $150, is a waste of money on an LC200N blade IMO. That steel scratches if you look at it, so if you actually use it that finish isn't going to last at all.
I just don’t get it with this knife… yeah it is a nice ergonomic knife. But there’s nothing special about it.. it’s just another generic looking knife. I keep seeing people sell them for 1500+ on FB groups and it just amazes me that people are buying them.
That is the sort of knife that I imagine people buy, let it sit in a draw and then in a couple of months go - oh if I sold that I'd have $800 that I could use to buy any number of other grey liner lock knives and then something else that isn't a dime a dozen grey liner lock.
The Civivi Ortis finger flick deployment is amazing. Just saying , I’ve never been able to effortlessly finger flick open a pocket knife until I got the Ortis.
Not a fan of the Roosevelt but appreciate that there are folks making different blades that appeal to people who are into things that I don't necessarily care for
You can tell the maker is somebody who has owned countless knives and NONE of them were ever right for him or what he wanted so he thought “Yup, I’m making my own.”
Lol. Probably the lock type that’s the least expensive to design and produce, but can be found on all the most expensive knives. Gotta pay attention to how you grip the knife or your detent tension will be inconsistent, and it never fails that the lock bar relief cut always lands right where the pocket clip will press your pocket hem into the groove. Not sure I understand that. No way I’m paying big bucks for a frame lock. If ya have to do a lock like this, at least do a liner lock if you’re gonna charge a premium. I guess they can’t all be compression locks, but they don’t all have to be the crappiest one-handed lock either.
Incorrect on almost every point, or maybe my # 454 is improved--- the detent tension is *not* inconsistent (doesn't even death-lock which surprises me); the relief does *not* press my hem into the groove; and making it a liner or compression lock would *not* improve this knife. It is unique, and is probably the single best pocketknife... well...ever.
@@footdickbubblehair I meant from an appearance perspective. I'm sure it's a great knife but there's nothing on this knife to justify that price to me personally. When I first saw it I thought it was a bigger Biblio.
It’s just a knife!!! For some reason this video is a rude awakening for me. I have 15,000 dollars worth of knives. Pretty much every one of them does the same thing. I feel a big sale coming soon. 😂
I’ve been thinking the same thing! They just hang on the door while I try and chose one to carry and I never can. They’re useless except the one in my pocket. I feel a big sale coming on!! I think imma start off selling the ckf fif23
Idk there’s nothing here that screams great knife like the Rask, Specter even things from Eutsler, Rassenti, Koenig, Shiro You could at least counter sink the pivot ffs. Idk this just doesn’t add up for me with the company it is currently keeping on secondary
Most overrated knife I ever bought. This thing is laughably ordinary. Don’t fall for the hype of the fanboys. Selling mine to a silly person ready to spend 1.4 for basically Spydiechef lol.
I’m here in ‘23. This is a unicorn/grail knife for me. Such a work of art.
I appreciate the hand rub satin finish. If you haven't hand sanded a knife you don't know how tedious it can be. $150 for what is possibly hours of extra work. There is a good reason why you don't see hand rubbed satin finish on production knives.
Nice knife, nice size, nice weight, nice materials and a nice design. Smooth action and smooth in and out of the pocket. I'm glad you reviewed it.

Nick says, "See the two balls sticking off... that's a beautiful thing" -- had me giggle just a bit.....
I snagged one from his more limited custom option drops, which came with golf putter milling. The base price was $500 without timascus and for that price, it’s an absolute steal.
I’ll add that it came with a stonewash blade, which I prefer to hand rubbed.
Ditto. Absolutely worth every penny to me. Perhaps I’m drooling over too many high dollar customs but $500 doesn’t seem bad at all.
I just bought one from a friend and love the review. I always like to watch reviews of my knives.
I’m sure somebody else has already mentioned this, but the Chris Reeve Sebenza 31 joined the Inkosi and Umnumzaan in its use of the ceramic detent ball doubling as the knife’s lock interface..
It’s a damn shame. CRK and Hinderer were the best at titanium frame locks. Now both have moved away from that type of lock up.
That action is so beautifully smooth. I like your spec, it's classy to be subtle.
Is the blade shape a new deal?
I'll see myself out...

Nick do you have any concerns about having ceramic as a lock surface? Can the ceramic chip in the lock surface application?
Hey nick, can you please review the civivi imperium
The base knife is 500 for all the complainers. You pick your options.
Expected the lanyard hole to be in the bad. I like the understated but still unusual look, something that I wish more makers would pursue.
Great review of an outstanding piece!
Much love from Switzerland
Don't the sebenza 31s also have the detent ball interface?
i believe so
Looks like a Gucci spydiechef
How is the action compared to the Norseman?

Can’t imagine what a blade shape like that would be useful for apart from skinning, which folders aren’t generally suited to.
