    I love the scene with the clock. One of the most amazing scenes in any film.

    Those words “he would be with them when their time came” brought me to tears alone. No parent should have to bury their child. This film storyline was astounding.

    This performance was so short yet so powerful. Contributed greatly to the melancholy tone of the movie. He deserves an award for it

      Also - some people say his son was reincarnated into Benjamin button who was born on the day the war ended ..

    Most people don’t understand that teddy Roosevelt lost one of his sons in ww1 hence why he took his hat off first. LT. Quentin Roosevelt died in an Ariel battle in France in 1918. He was just twenty years old. Theodore was always depressed that his son had died in the war.

      In The Real New Orleans; The French Opera House burned in 1918.
      Along with the Great War it was a sign things had changed... the Whole in the Communities heart was visibly burned.

    That whole reverse shot is the beauty of David Fincher. Made the whole silhouette far more powerful. He uses the visual medium in such an impactful manner

    How did Benjamin get born with such a Curious Case? In the short story it was explicitly stated to be caused by the backwards clock starting to spin the exact second he was born. In the movie, the relevance of the clock was only hinted at. As Hurricane Katrina makes its way into New Orleans, the clock starts moving backwards again, bizarrely around the same time that Daisy dies...

    • @joshybratwurst1398
      @joshybratwurst1398 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Knowing David Fincher, his goal was most likely to hint that the clock is what caused Benjamin's condition, rather than explicitly link the two.

    I listened to Soldier Side followed by Castle of Glass...I always cry when I hear the speech in this scene, but this time I cried harder. My condolences to whoever lost a relative thanks to war.

    Christ this scene is heartbreaking. He just wanted his baby to come back to him instead of dying in a brutal and pointless war.

    in a few words with a small sample behind and two scenes all the pain about the loss and all the disgusting of a war. masterpiece! even my sentence i wrote is longer!!!

      I made it that way so that perhaps the boys that we lost in the war might stand and come home again. Home to farm, work, have children. To live long, full lives. Perhaps my own son might come home again. I'm sorry if I've offended anybody. I hope you enjoy my clock.
      Mh...looks longer than what you wrote.

    It's been some time since I've seen it, but my recollection is that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a fascinating but flawed movie. This scene, however, is a masterpiece, and ranks with Fincher's very best work.

    How would the clock tell the correct time if it runs backwards, I'm genuinely puzzled

    • @Indica9
      @Indica9 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is a click of memories and dreams- in both these worlds clock represents unfulfilled wishes, lives never lived, happiness never achieved, hopes that never came back,lives that were shattered forever. The clock is a state of mind rather than a keeper of time.
