  • In this video we remove all the old boards from the ceiling and add new, thinner and lighter boards. We also create boxes for the ceiling ventilation fans and box in the pillars either side of the rear doors in the Mercedes Sprinter van that we are converting in to a campervan.

    Great job. I am planning conversion myself. I'm in Portugal so was thinking of using cork instead of wood for walls. Any thoughts?

      Nice idea as it would also help insulate and sound deaden the space, although may not be as hardwearing

    Quick question, when you screw directly into the metal body of the van, is there any concerns with the holes rusting over time? Cheers 👍

      @RagnBoneBrown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rusting from condensation do you mean? I don't think it's a big concern, at least it's not something I'm aware of....

    Your wearing ear defenders to protect your ears, but what about protecting your eyes, even though ears are still important, but I sure eyes are more important....

    Rather you than me on this bit of the job! Watching with interest though, as our camper is due back from the paint shop soon and I'll be building the interior.
    One thought though, for changing bulbs in the rear lights, do you need access to the back of the light units to remove them?

    I am so glad I found this video, I am doing a shuttle bus conversion & learned a lot. I was wondering if a ticking stick would have come in handy when working on boxing in those columns in the back. I also like that you weren't afraid to take something apart that wasn't quite right. Eager to see the progress!

    Getting the grooves lined up on the door piece won’t be too bad, do all the panel shaping first - get it tacked in place and use the laser level to transfer the marks over. Easier said than done but not too bad.

    It's a bit more than 30%. Just as it jumped out that 8mm would be a 33% reduction, so at 7.5mm must be more, it's likely to be about 35% reduction in would think without checking. Love your content as ever, very interesting seeing you do a van, as it's definitely something I have considered doing in the past.

    • @RagnBoneBrown

      Thank you Craig. Some day I'd quite like to get a camper of my own, albeit on a much smaller scale (I'm thinking an old vintage caravan would be really cool!)

    Coming together well. I wonder if boxing in the corners has regained the weight lost by using the thinner roof boards?

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Tim. I don't think it will have affected it much at all. The plywood used on the boxing in is thin (3.4mm I think) and very lightweight, as was the softwood we used as battens.
