The Garnier cleansing balm is actually a bit of a bargain for 4.2 oz. Some 'affordable' cleansing balms are roughly £12-15 for 2 oz. I just feel, that with the money Garnier has....they could've been a little more innovative.

Well, it depends. For the Cicaplast one, it does help me alot. Me and my bae are loving this bc it's very rich and now it's an spf. I have a very dry skin to begin with so since LRP launched a cicaplast one with spf, it felt like a dream. It never pills so that's not the issue for both of us 🙄it does look shiny when first applied, which is obviously... duh🙃 After 15 mins or so it sets into the skin and doesn't look so shiny at the beginning. I sometimes wake up with some redness on my face and very dry, add this in my routine, throughout the day my skin calms the f down 🥲.

While I would usually agree with you on Garnier, in many European countries cleansing balms aren’t a thing. I was shocked when I returned to Portugal only to find that they weren’t easily available, perhaps only in Sephora, and the expensive ones. The Garnier launch will mean other countries in the world will be able to use and like at affordable prices and other brands will do the same. It’s a good move, but perhaps not in the US or UK ☺️

Nothing wrong with a simple, "boring" cleansing balm if it takes off my makeup/sunscreen, doesn't cost a lot for what you get and you can grab it off the grocery store shelf. I prefer to curate my own actives anyway and don't feel a need to wait weeks for something from overseas just to wash my face.

Edit to add: i doubt the cicaplast balm is meant as an everyday face spf. Its a healing ointment, and damaged skin needs protection too. This would be good for something like a new tattoo, post wrapping/second skin

Well,,, were I live the only usable brands in the drugstore are L’oreal, Garnier and Nivea… We got Cerave like a year ago in Pharmacies along with the french luxury brands we’ve always had at the pharmacy… I know these big drugstore companies are really late to the trend but I’m really excited for their launches because finally we are getting some usable products at the drugstore. Five years ago it was so bad, that I prefered the supermarkets own hygiene products over anything else they sold… Nivea was the first to release a cleansing oil, garnier has this really nice vitaminC 30SPF Mineral sunscreens which leaves the nice kind of white cast on light skin tones and feels like a moisturiser. This year Loreal released a bunch of new sunscreens that remind me of the la roche-posay anthelios and missha green cap sun fluid. IMO these are all still shitty sunscreens but they are at least tolerable. I’m really happy that I can finally buy a decent skincare routine at the drugstore and don’t have to buy korean skincare in 70 pound buckets to justify the shipping fee.

The cicaplast baume spf50 is literally perfect for my eczema prone skin. I have to apply vaseline ontop of my spf because I have to slug every single time I apply moisturiser and so SPF just so my face can feel comfortable, I'm always worried I'm disrupting the film of my SPF but I have to. So something like the cicaplast baume spf removes that problem for me. I'm so excited to try this.

    • @mnilbydntkt
      @mnilbydntkt 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

It's definitely disrupting your SPF protection. Consider looking for sunscreens people like to use when their skin barrier is compromised. Moisturising on top shouldn't be a solution. Per the national eczema society, "Apply your emollient about half an hour before applying sunscreen. This gap will help ensure the sunscreen remains undiluted and keeps its protective properties...if you are using an emollient that is greasy or oily, be careful not to overdo application as this can cause a 'frying' effect in the sun". Your moisturiser might not be the right one for you. This is my face moisturising routine if you're interested: I make my own glycerine "serum" by pouring a small amount of pure glycerine into the palm of my hand, adding some water from the tap, eyeballing a 1 part glycerine, 3 parts water ratio, and then very quickly I smooth it all over my already-damp face. If my face feels sticky, it's because I didn't add enough water, so I add some more to my face to dilute it. This has really helped level up my moisturisers. It's a bit chaotic but I'd rather do that than add glycerine to my moisturiser, potentially making it sticky BC I don't know what ratio to use, or pre-making it in a dropper bottle and replacing it every 3-ish days because it doesn't contain any added preservatives. For moisturising, I use a lotion by a brand that is affiliated with/supports the eczema association in my country. Using the lotion over a cream means that I get to layer it to make it more and more moisturising. It's also very affordable (I use the QV Ceramides Lotion which, when full price, is $11.99 AUD for the 350ml bottle). Creams are perfectly fine, I just like layering my lotion. Vaseline can be moisturising, but it mostly serves as an occlusive. You're better off using something with a more well-rounded formulation that helps improve the skin barrier. I spot treat any patches on my face that are red, peeling or stingy with a more rich cream/ointment. Lately, I've been using the Elastoplast Wound Healing Ointment. Other products in my arsenal are the Aveeno Dermexa Fast & Long-lasting Balm and Neutrogena's Norwegian Formula Hand Cream (my derm recommended this a few years ago. Unpleasant to use but effective. This is the only product I've listed that can definitely be used on the face/has been advertised as being fine to use on the face and lips. I presumed the other two were fine). If spot treating parts of my face with one of these products isn't helping and I just straight up have eczema on my face, I use my prescribed Hydrocortisone acetate 10mg/g. This was prescribed to me as my normal eczema ointment cannot be used on my face. However, you absolutely must speak to your prescribing doctor about whether or not it is suitable for YOU to use on YOUR face or eyelid area. And so that leads to my final, and most important, piece of advice: see a dermatologist. If your eczema is so bad that you don't feel comfortable without layering Vaseline OVER your sunscreen, you should see a dermatologist.
      Good luck!

I’m kinda excited for this Garnier launch, even if I won’t buy it. If I think of German drugstores, the category of cleansing balms totally need some new additions. I genuinely believe that there are only 4 to 5 you can find in there. And I mean across the board not just in one store. From these 5 options only 2 actually work and one of them is the BOJ one for an outrageous price tag. So you basically left with the Geek&Gorgeous one which hit the German shelves only earlier this year. What I‘m trying to say is that this launch could be an amazing thing for us here, since cleansing balms and lowkey oils are quite neglected by our big drugstore chains.

I don't know if it's first world snark that I've sensed with James with those Garnier balms but not every country planet has easy access to brick and mortar K-Beauty. 👀 And outside of their atrocious (according to my skin) micellar waters I have no big issues with Garnier's other product
If that Garnier balm does its job I'll hoard those when the BOGO or discount sales come.

no i dot have access to brick and mortar k beauty either. But i also understand that it can be hard to get Korean skincare shipped to certain countries. The Garnier products will for sure do their job well. I just dont belive that because something is affordable and easy to get your hands on, that it means it needs to be boring our outdated. Especially with the money garnier has, i think they can offer a lot more as far as innovation goes. And agreed, their micellar water is the worst lol

Retinols, vit c, and fragrances upset my skin even at a low doses but I really want to do/ implement more for my skin! A video on bargain to luxury items for those with really sensitive skin would be amazing too!

  • @momonomay3011

I used the Cicaplast B5 SPF 50 last year when I wanted to try cicaplast but didn’t really have the money to commit to the £18 tube. Honestly it really wasn’t bad and did keep me feeling really hydrated. I was trying to heal my skin barrier at the time so my other products in my routine were snail mucin essence, hyalauronic acid and a liz earle cream (i’m not sure what it is called it comes in a little purple pot!)
Honestly I thought it was pretty decent. Felt like it locked in my moisturiser and it was nice to apply makeup on top of. I do think it is probably a fair bit different o the original cicaplast, so I believe it translates well but this may be up to preference. My only issues were that it was a particularly stingy one, getting into my eyes when I took my usual caution not to get it there as well as the packaging. It’s a fine tube but it’s not a very soft plastic and the cream itself is quite thick. I felt as though I struggled with getting the remaining half of the product out of the tube. I’m dyspraxic and my grip strength isn’t the best so I am at a disadvantage, but i’ve never really had that issue with sun protection before. I haven’t repurchased due to always trying new spf (can’t help myself) but my other “go-tos” are the purito centella 50Spf and the bondi sands face spf50. The packaging for these didn’t have any issue like this, even way beyond halfway through.
It was like, when you get to the end of your toothpaste but don’t want to replace it without getting every last drop. So you squeeze the packaging to the point of deformity and create a little crease/fold thing by the opening of the tube to get that last bit of paste. It was like that, except with a plenty more product left and a lot less soft and flexible plastic to squeeze on.

1:06 this is a perfect example of brands just adding ingredients to things that don’t need it. Like a night cream having Vit c, or sunscreen having retinol 😂 just feels random. James is right such a boring option. Drugstore and the high street is just so expensive now. £15 is rather expensive for a cleanser . I would pay that for a brand it love ie inkey list or Elf or byoma or la Roche posay But garnier? I do love their SPF though but brands like them, simple, L’Oréal etc shouldn’t be over £10.
