You know an artist is revolutionary and highly influential to the scene when they decide to take risks and defy the laws of the genre they're part of. George is one of them, and goddamn, he can do no wrong! Awesome analysis and video as usual, Pad my bro!
I think a way this channel's content could evolve is by taking advantage of the contacts you have with the scene; Having a vapor album review/retrospective series where the actual artist discusses their thought process would be quality content.
What's really impressive, is that virtua.zip proved one major thing - vaporwave is not about sampling other's music. The album suggests that it's all about samples, while it's heavily based on organic compositions. Vaporwave is emulation of nostalgic feelings for long-lost future past and you can achieve that in many different ways. Plus virtua.zip is really chill album, it's great for a warm summer day.
This album was one of the first ones I listened to in its entirety back when I got into the genre years ago, glad to see a video on it! Great stuff as always
on my first plane ride of my life last year i flew to portland, and it was very cloudy and rainy in my hometown that morning. I decided to throw on virtua.zip as soon as my i got on the plane and as soon as my favorite track started playing (esprit.wav) i broke through the thick layer of clouds and looked out of my window and felt like i had one of the most ethereal musical experiences of my life. I spent the duration of the flight jamming to virtua.zip in this very dreamlike world above the clouds. When i finished virtua i decided to throw on the rest of the esprit catalogue because george is my favorite vaporwave artist and i wanted my first flight to feel very special, i had no worries in that moment, everything was so tranquil. George's music and what he's doing as an artist inspires me in so many different ways and im very thankful that i discovered such a talented face in the scene.

I found this by listening to livin' loose on Spotify, having the song stick in my head a year later, then looking George Clanton up and realizing I had listened to him all the way back in 2014. I did some more research and eventually found your video. Thank you for the great interview and analysis of this vaporwave artist's early work :)
I really respect George for breaking out of the mold and turning his own 80's/90's sounding music into Vaporwave. It felt like such an original album at the time and it always stood out to me and my friends
This record brings back some amazing memories of lulling my baby boy to sleep when he was a newborn. He's going to be 4 soon. Some students of mine steered me towards Vapor Wave at the time. The music was great for me to listen to as a fan of music and a godsend as a parent. Great video by the way!👍

I really love George's inclusion and how he talks about how he made the album (no software here, but that's not the point) and how it became one of vaporwave's most influential releases to this day! I like to listen to virtua.zip when I'm driving or just hanging out with my non-vaporwave friends and they're like "Is this chillstep? I really like it." And then I go on about how 100% Electronica is the coolest. 😎 It's funny that vaporwave artists started out being anonymous. Was it for dramatic effect?
This album was what got me into the scene. I tripped over one of its tracks in a joke video and ended up loving the whole album. I made sure when I got into vapor vinyl, that it was my very first record. Its absolutely a masterpiece.

The Squirtle evolution metaphor was hilarious because even though I'm sure it was meant innocently, it kind of implies that Clanton peaked already and could only do better if he picked up some gimmick like Mega Blastoise.
Virtua was my introduction to the idea that Vaporwave is less about 80's nostalgia, and more about 80's tropes as viewed by someone who grew up in the 90's. Like, this album and others in that vein are weird dreamlike amalgamations of my childhood - I'm too young and too much in my own little world to really care what's on the radio, so my exposure to music is almost exclusively Sega Saturn games, my parents' old mixtapes, and the Weather Channel.

I came across this genre through "Mana Pool" and "virtua.zip" because of my TH-cam recommendations. I have no clue why I was served these two projects but once I heard them a couple years ago they changed my life. I had no idea Clanton sort of put the album together on one day based on his demos. So amazing that a sense of frustration with his work led to an incredible project.

Virtua.zip was basically my entire summer in 2018. I have so many great memories listening to this album.
This and Girls Only are my all time favorites and they got me crazy for Vaporwave. I’ll forever be thankful.
