not surprised... although the twin cities and chicago service units kept a few unpainted units hidden on those service units to stop the UP from repainting them... they knew if they went west forget it, the CNW scheme was gone
Yep, once the head of the motive power dept retired (an ex cnw guy) the twins were quickly sent to NLR fir repainting... However, i believe there are some patched units hiding in storage around the UP system.
I believe from what I heard, that at the time, the CNW units were still UniPac owned but would be there until they needed to be fixed or something. Then they'd be sent back to the UP and be fixed as well as repainted. Now, I wish that the two CNW units were still at the museum. They're probably rotting away in storage tracks now because of PSR. I'm not entirely sure, I may need to look it up. Edit: yep, the two CNW units were repainted. Now they don't appear to be in active duty because one of the more recent photos of the CNW units when they were renumbered and repainted was from 2018, before PSR was adopted into the UP.
Awesome video I hope to make it back to the Museum at the first part of the summer!!
CNW double-deck, pretty cool.
Sad news. 8701 and 8646 weren't preserved by UP, They got repainted into UP Armour yellow.

To complete the event, they must invite C&NW 1385 when she is done with her rebuild.

It's spelled North Western. 2 words. Northwestern is a university in Evanston.
God I Miss Watching those Trains go By.
4:58 NOW THATS A GOOD RS3L
They got some nice stuff.
Just out of curiousity, what trains go by on the main line just outside of the museum
MetroBostonRailways Usually a few trains every week, mostly serving the Belvidere car plant and other small industrys along the line.
that looked cool, wish i could have made it
Are there still commuter trains?
So the big CNW Road engines... are they not operable?
Frank Wells No, they are just stored at the museum my Union Pacific, if they wanted they could run them.
the train
They got taken out of storage and repainted a few years ago
1:07I should’ve write that because I was late
You know something that doesn't look that old really is old when it's owned by a museum
