What a voice control. I studied classical singing, and this is just superhuman-level of singing. Everything feels so natural and powerful. Its powerful as a trumpet but at the same time his voice is so warm.

I got into Sienna late and found a restaurant still open. I didn't speak a word of Italian but I recognized a picture on the wall. I pointed to it and said "Bastianini". Of course that was the right thing to say.

He had such a wonderful, noble, velvety voice, and this aria is one of the most beautiful things written for a baritone. If Leonora heard him sing this, she'd ditch the tenor.

Purtroppo in quest'anno la sua voce risentiva già del male che che lo avrebbe portato alla morte davvero troppo presto! Ma che voce che tecnica! Che signorilità! Mai più nessuno come lui! Piccolissima polemica per scherzare un po! Celletti chi?? Non gli piaceva? Peggio per lui! Chi ama la musica veramente segue solo il proprio istinto e il proprio cuore! Non ha bisogno di comprarsi un libro di critica (fondamentalmente mooolto di parte!)

I really liked Lawrence Tibbett but I am now a Bastianini convert!
Bravo Bastianini!!! Magnificent singing and all the more impressive as these performances took place a year after the great baritone had been diagnosed with the cancer that would eventually take his life.
In other videos with better image quality, you can see he looked sick/tired/fragile in this performance. Despite this, his voice looked virile and lively.

Bastianini, per me, fu il più grande e più bello De Luna della storia.
Oltre la sua bellissima voce e presenza arrivava con la sua mestizia a dare la faccia "lunare" del personaggio.
Basta vedere il film con Del Monaco del 1957. Manrico, il fratello gemello, è solare e De Luna è lunare.
Solo Bastianini con la sua presenza, classe e riservatezza poteva dare tutto questo.

マリオ・デル・モナコが来日寸前で来れなくなりＧリマリルリが代役でしたね。私もこの時は社会人になりたてで、給料が15000円でしたが4000円のチケットを買って行きました。あの興奮を超える演奏にはいまだに経験なしです。最近は演出が奇抜で雰囲気がでないので、もっぱら昔の録音を聴いています。

If a singer wants an unusually fast tempo it usually means he/she does not feel in best form.
@@ransomcoates546 well.. it can be. by this year, Ettore was very sick and a few years away from succumbing to cancer.
He already had tough laryngeal cancer in 1963. But his voice is still not damaged too much. But 1964 and 1965 were terrible torture to him - his hair even turned grey up to the end of 1965. But even in his sunset he was second to none - modern singers would give a hand to sing one night like him!

На сколько- же великий Бастианини-- Де Луна является образцом красивейшего голоса, что может свести с ума и соблазнить любую девушку, женщину своим баритоном , я уж не говорю о его внешности- просто красавец по жизни. Yes, he is still in good voice here. Most modern baritones could only dream about having voice of 1965 Bastianini, not to mention his prime.
