"Oh wow this card is insane! It's great! You know, this card...actually, this card isn't that great. Really though, this card is terrible. Just terrible."
I think in regards to the new discard cards the thing that makes them distinctively different from past iterations is that you can predict and control which card is discarded, and it's often going to be the least valuable as the lowest cost one. This is very different to "discard a random card" which is way more rng and unreliable by comparison. They might still be bad but I don't think it's fair at all to compare them to past discard decks to claim they won't be any good.
I think the card "The Beast Within" would be a good or average card to put into a spell hunter deck as most of the creatures if not all the creatures in spell hunter that are going to be played are beasts. This would allow for good to decent removal for spell hunter and also add in other cards that can do more damage or summon more beasts to help out with the board state when it comes to playing spell hunter. Though if you had "The Beast Within" in your opening hand you would want to automatically mulligan the card as it would not support or help out in developing your board state.
on revenge of the wild. besides board sweepers; taunters seem to stop agro. you can use your board to clear a big taunt and then use this (assuming a lot of these new beasts have rush) immediately go face again
with Soulwarden you can get tempo by playing discard cards that have big numbers early on n then later on when u have no hand you can basically draw 3 cards by playing the Warden
Captain Hooktusk is really good for the pirates that have 5 damage and effects from Overkill and Deathrattle. Play it with Ticket Scapler, Cused Castaway, and you could even run Southsea Captain for more damage for board clear. You draw cards and gain a Combo card which mostlikely would be your Elven Minstrel, Vilespine Slayer, or Edwin VanCleef. The card is useful, but you have to be careful what cards you run with it. At least it's not summon 7 1/1 bats for 8 mana.
Hey, Day[J] there's a cat on your back... Oh, there it goes. P.S. I wonder why I am watching this, I haven't played Hearthstone since Goblins and Gnomes.
I love you sooo much day 9.... I watched ur spellsingers, magic arena and other vids, NOW I CAN'T STOP SAYING "BING BONG NOOOO!!!" damn you mr :D love from the UK
I don't think I have seen any set reviewer give out this many "0/10"-ish ratings! What I kinda got from this to be honest is that 95% of the cards are just flat out bad and the rest are good for reasons which have nothing to do with the rest of the set. It was a funny video :)
The text for Spirit of the Lynx says "summon", not "play". Does that mean it would grant it's bonus to the wolves generated by the spellstone, or flanking strike?
He's completely wrong about Cannon Barrage and High Priest Jeklik and Reckless Diretroll. He's completely missing the value of Jeklik if you're able to buff him through Soul Infusion or Spirit of the Bat, because he keeps all the buffs when discarded and then just multiplies with the same stat line. The Diretroll provides consistency in this regard, with his controlled discard mechanic. His assessment will certainly be on a highlight reel.
I'm pretty late in here. I don't have much to say about the review. But Day9 not knowing Wolfrider isn't a Beast goes right into the 'not knowing Netherspite Historian wasn't a Dragon' category of how.
also @2:39:11 is that even true? Hasn't he said time and time in the past that he hates cards that pull randomly out of nowhere because they're frustrating to play around?
predatory instincts + stampeding roar = 12/24 rush tyrantus on turn 5 (cos your a druid and have wild growth) with relativly little actualy investmant 2 cards and you lose your turn 4, but you gain a 12 24 TYRANTUS WITH RUSH OUT ON TURN 5/6 2 witching hours = 2 more tyrantus yeah that deck will be nasty as fuck imo
Thats intentionally they missed alot of meta changes in the past. Typically you want a new meta in the new exp and not something that empowers the meta from last exp.
Why does he keep only considering Hunter card for how good they run in an aggro deck instead of the goddamn deck we've seen the whole last year, Spell Hunter and all other variations that just win by spamming KoC cards and Rexxar turn 6
Imagination is relatively limited in this review.. was any of this prepared or was this all first impression and improvised? I'd really like to see you come back and do one of those videos that are typically cringey where they review their review after the meta has formed, but I think yours would be much more entertaining than the norm. I also think you'd learn one or two things about yourself. Win-win?
He definitely got just pretty belligerent towards the end. Still was right about most of the neutrals, granted. I think maybe he was getting tired. He used to have that attitude through the whole video in some of his first card preview videos, but he's been getting better.
Lol at 1:23:13 he asked, And what do you do vs aggro? Slam down your 4/4? Yesterday I played in that brawl against a Super aggressive Odd Hunter, and I slammed the Templar down on turn 4 . The Templar won me the game and dealt the final damage to the Hunter.
it amazes me that no one has called out the predatory+stampeding synergy with somthing like tyrantus a 12/24 cant be targeted+rush minion on board turn 5 (cos lol druid) basicaly only 2 things that can deal with that, vilespine and voodoo doll one is only 1 card in one deck, and the other is barely ever run at all
I dunno dude, I think headhunter's hatchet is kinda trash. Hunter has so many good 2 drop's that are just plain better. I bet it won't see much play. Gonk for druid is also awesome. It stacks with multiple copies and you can OTK.
The previous instances of those card reveals were hyperbolic, insane and hilarious. This one... Sean gives the impression he's actually serious about this review, and that makes hyperbolic statements and seeming ignorance about pretty basic mechanics and uses of cards a little frustrating.
@@escanor3394 I wasn't talking about the description, I understand sarcasm. I meant the actual review itself that at times sounded actually genuine. A lot of really bad cards were rated low as they should have and for actual true reasons.
Oh how I missed Day9 talking about Hearthstone
yass, i hope we will still see him on card reveal streams in the future, he is fun to watch.
Yep, I like Mtg, and I like Day9, but I need Day9 Hearthstone videos in my life!!
Missing day9 ans hearthstone...We've come à long way since starcraft…
just watch the soulwarden review. That has to be the best card review I’ve ever seen 2:33:00
"Oh wow this card is insane! It's great! You know, this card...actually, this card isn't that great. Really though, this card is terrible. Just terrible."
It bugs me more than I'm willing to admit that Ironhide and Direhorn are almost anagrams of eachother but not quite.
It bugs me that they could've gone with Ironherd Direhorn

spirit of the raptor is actaully quite strong in odd druid on turn three+ the deck probably wont be great though

Technically these are card previews.
I saw Toast play a Gonk combo and it was pretty fun but yeah its not a competitive deck.

The last card review...
Today I learned that I do not care about Hearthstone anymore.
A couple of days later and now Gonk druid is a thing =DDD
Awesome review, long but fun. Cheers Day9!
I only play Murlock Shammy. I am disapointed lol. Thx for the nice review

This is what i hate about some new expansions. They make new cards that only work with other new cards. Like the concept of c'thun.
Thats intentionally they missed alot of meta changes in the past. Typically you want a new meta in the new exp and not something that empowers the meta from last exp.
