    Great review. It's about time someone did a pro review on these guitars! I own the Veil of Bees, and you're right. Pictures really don't do it any justice. I've been playing for 30 years now, and this is one of the best guitars I've ever owned. Better than many of my old Gibsons. And it's absolutely the best looking guitar I've ever owned. I bought mine to PLAY, which is just what I'm doing. I don't see the "Honeymoon Phase" wearing off anytime soon. ✌️🎸

      Thanks Gary! Yeah they totally knocked it out of the park with these. Adam Jones deserves credit as well for how this turned out - Im going to go out on a limb here and speculate that Adam was approached by Gibson to do it just like Jerry Cantrell - “hey lets do a budget line, two versions, one for the “classic” player with classic looks and shape and one with a slightly different colorway and with the Prophecy body and Fishman electronics - you in???” And Adam was like - “So I should put my name on a cash grab mission to charge extra for a different color? No thanks”. Then he thought about it and came back to them saying - “can you print art work on the backs? Im only in if 1) you can pull this off and 2) if its a limited run - and sure we can charge more but we are going to offer more than just a new colorway.” Its what Im imagining how this went down 😂

      @@ksmusiclounge1648 I think you're right. I know that many prototypes were run by A.J., which he rejected. I'm hoping to get my hands on the non-art version, which I believe will be the last of the series.

      Im sure there are unicorn guitars among these as well where everything lines up just perfectly and you get something unrivalled. One thing I can confirm is, the neck relief is actually better on the Epis then on the CS guitars, which really makes you wonder 🧐

    I just picked mine up today. The guitar is amazing. It is loud! The Seymour Duncan is really hot. I have a Seymour Duncan in my old Gibson SG and it doesn’t compare to this setup. It really packs a punch. The neck is smooth. It plays so good. It’s also the first time I’ve gotten the Adam Jones scream with flanger and delay on my amp lol. Fellow tool fans know which I’m talking about.

    Well done, thanks for the deep dive and playing/tones which sounded great! I have the VOB and it’s an excellent guitar, it’s really flawless aside from the input jack being much too tight and a bit tough to insert the guitar cable. I have an Explorer w/ a 500T at the bridge but I think the Duncan on this guitar is even hotter! 😱

    • @ksmusiclounge1648
      @ksmusiclounge1648  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man! Much appreciated! The input jack on this one is a bit tight as well but not to the point where I would feel the need to fix it. Its an easy fix tho, I can probably make a video on this. Its just a question of unscrewing the jack socket and bending in (just a bit) the metal part that connects to the jack tip. That will give you a better fit. When you have it out of the guitar, have a jack ready to plug in to check that it smooth - not to tight and not too loose. Agree on the pup - the SD is absolute face melting brutality in this one 😂🤘

    Very useful review on this one. I’ll be buying one next week. As far as all the positive Epiphone attention lately, this one really does offer something at a higher level of quality for a pretty good price even at $1299. And it doesn’t make you feel like you necessarily got the “poor” man’s version.
    I think all versions have what counts (a very attractive silver burst) yet are quite different from one another across each line. For me, the AJ LP Custom addresses the key barrier for me w/Epiphone Custom models and that’s the dreaded d-profile. I love the beefier profile on these and w/the case and volute/maple neck we have something quite unique.
    An interesting if not controversial release.
    Great video though IMO

    • @ksmusiclounge1648
      @ksmusiclounge1648  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your kind words! Very much appreciated. Yes I think you nailed it - the neck profile is rounded as per Adam’s specs and I think most guitarists save for shred demons tend to go for beefier necks. Even Ibanez came out with the AZ line to cater to the non-shred crown and brought Josh Smith on board… This is imo a very unique approach to a signature repease in a budget line.

    I got a used sensation and its beautiful and sounds great! I will say that my fretboard is gnarly, at the 12th fret it gets very messy looking and there even appears to be some holes filled in by a couple of the frets.
    For me these things are inconsequential but as an expensive investment its a lil dissapointing.

  • @Eric_01
    @Eric_01 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I got the Veil of the Bees, everything looks and feels great, but there was a weird perfectly round dent between two of the tuning pegs on the headstock. It actually looks like a misfire happened when drilling the holes and the filler either sank or it was so shallow that it was just left as is. The finish over it is completely fine, it just has a little indention that you can feel and see when the light hits right. Not a big deal, just thought it was an odd miss on the QC side. Then, with the Berserker, everything looks and feels great, except for the binding along the bottom of the front of the guitar, from the strap pin all the way to where the cutout meets the neck, is offset and you can feel a lip where the binding meets the body. Again, it's no big deal, I would still never get rid of it, but I now see a trend in some QC issues from the factory on fit and finish. In contrast, I also finally received the Jerry Cantrell "Wino" Epiphone that has been on backorder for nearly a year, and it is completely flawless. I can't find a single complaint with the fit and finish on that one. Just goes to show that machines are necessary, but ultimately, the human hand can make or break the quality of the finished product. I'm sure the vast majority of guitars shipped have no issues what-so-ever, it's just luck of the draw and it's insane to expect that in this series they will produce 5,600 mid-tier guitars with no issues. None of what I've seen so far would've discouraged me from having them, though. They're incredibly beautiful.

    • @ksmusiclounge1648
      @ksmusiclounge1648  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, havent seen that ever happen on a guitar. Most of the times there’s a bump under the finish where a piece of saw dust or something happened to get trapped under the coat of paint and that caused a little bump sitting proud of the rest of the finish. But a depression I have never seen.

    I haven’t played the Adam Jones version, but picked up a new Epiphone LP custom in silver burst in guitar center a couple months ago. Let me tell you that I’m just not a silver burst fan really I think AJ’s original is awesome looking aged yellowed and checked, but just not a fan of new silver burst, but for some reason that Custom Silver burst in person I had to pick it up and wow man it was awesome Epiphone is really building some nice guitars these days, I tried a epiphone gold top standard a few years ago and it was amazing too but I just don’t care for the look of the rosewood substitutes used, but the customs take care of that with the Ebony board and the headstock on the customs look better. So I can attest if you want a nice LP custom for around 1000 the regular epiphone customs are very nice. I like Tool but I’m not a super fan. I think the Berzerker is the coolest art AJ and I do love a Duncan Distortion in the bridge of just about anything. I don’t know if the regular customs come with a hard case or not. When you consider what you’re getting with the Adam Jones art series the limited numbers, art, Duncan Distortion, and the neck pickup flipped, with a hard case it’s not a bad deal.

      We are certainly getting a loot of guitar here. The CS feels different which I cannot quantify. Whether that difference in feel is worth 6 or 9 times the price well… And people tend to prefer nitro however there is nothing wrong with a beautiful poly finish…

    • @brandonjackson5865
      @brandonjackson5865 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ksmusiclounge1648 I think most of us older guys at least appreciate the way nitro ages, but it’s certainly not worth the ridiculous prices for a Gibson for me anyway. I’d love to have one but I just can’t justify the dough . I’ve always played fender style guitars and if I were to spend 5k for a guitar it’d have a better chance being a Fender Custom Shop than something by Gibson . I like the new faded Gibsons and that’s about as high as I could go on a new Gibson. I bet there’s some people who would prefer the hard poly finishes because they are more durable and won’t age like nitro. I’d like to see like a made in Japan Epiphone with the open book headstock and a nitro finish, a standard ish with a rosewood board and maybe real mop or at least very nice looking acrylic inlays and a rosewood board around the 1500 to 1600 price, but that would cut into the studios and tributes and Gibson just ain’t going to do that.

    You need to speak up, or put your mic closer to your mouth because the volume of your voice drastically drops and the camera focus was on your tool shirt and not the guitar

      Yeah the Autofocus seems to have been more interested in the shirt than the guitar, need to be more careful next time.

      But you as the player will KNOW! And that knowledge is power and this power will make you attack the strings differently and conjure up a whole different kind of playing - and the audience will feel it, they may not know what it is but they will feel something very different. The flow of energy in the universe - matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration…

    The dumb art F's up a coupe of nice Epiphone es Pauls . . .

      Thats one way to look at it 😂 the other would be “otherwise bland guitar real estate graced by fine artwork by one of the most influential artist of the 20th century”. Either one is legit.

    its still just a epiphone with a picture on the back not worth the 2k people are asking

    • @ksmusiclounge1648

      Hey Dave! Nothing wrong with having that opinion. As I said in my final thoughts - its not a player’s guitar. Its a collectable item that can make music. The idea is unique, the effort to make it happen on Epiphone’s part is admirable - but its not for everybody. Thanks for the comment!

      @@ksmusiclounge1648 But why the Heck has everything that comes from Gibson/Epiphone has to be a collectors piece nowadays ?What the phuk is going on with that, are rich people really that bored out of this life? Where's the 600-800$/€ model of that guitar that can actually be played without worrying about scratching up the back of the guitar. As Dave pointed out that price gouging right after this stuff leaves the factory is ridiculous, a collectors piece often gets that status later on not right out of the box (for example the zakk wylde models that you just cant get anymore). Its as if scalpers and factory XYZ collude with one another in this day and age, if youre looking at those prices that most of the limited stuff fetches right now right after it just got sold. Just my two cents. Sorry for any incoherent brabbling or any grammatical errors as english is not my first language.
      Greetings from germany.

      But this type of guitar (I have the VOB) is better than my Gibson Les Paul Custom in all ways, and it's worth the price (I payed from a private seller 500 more the listed price). I'm a guitarlover, and I owned certainly 15 Epis and 8 Gibsons...
