    Great video sir . I think keeping some of the reusable parts is a good idea because of the hours that your operation puts on the equipment ,there's always something that breaks down .

    That crankshaft welded to an old semi steel wheel that came loose and wallered the holes out would make a great mailbox stand for a mechanic my middle daughter is a diesel mechanic she took the crank from a 68 D7G and the flywheel poured a 4 ft deep hole 36 inches in diameter to bolt the flywheel to then my son in his fabrication/welding shop built a mailbox that looked like an old dozer with the blade away from the road the winch is the handle to the door he painted it Cat yellow and my youngest daughter does alot of craft stuff from a picture she painted the Cat logos on it chromed the stack and cylinder rams it turned out pretty slick nobody can steal it like the 379 Peterbuilt she ordered and had bolted to a wood post and my dad's IH combine and if anyone tries running it over they better have a tank because it took my mini-excavator to get it sat on the pad and bolted down then she had me weld 2 of the nuts on dad's new mailbox stand is an old corn sheller bolted to a 6 inch slab of concrete my son built him an old mounted 2 row New Idea corn picker on a Farmall M with a wagon that's the mailbox the wagon is welded to the tray you set the corn on and a frame comes off that to hold the tractor my daughter painted it too I'm getting an old barn made for grandpa's old cream separator and can put flowers on the big stainless steel bowl my son and daughter are thinking about doing custom mailboxes to sell he'll build em she'll paint em and people can bring in what they want them mounted to or he can make brackets to bolt to a 4x4 post

    I will tell you Andy the reason it failed unlike the nuts that gravatate to every farming channel to put down the brand they don't like me included it failed because sh$% happens red green blue yellow and orange at some point it's going to scatter parts everywhere I still wonder if the old ones are better I have new and old machines and it just seems like my oldest big tractor will crank when nothing else will start and overall is holding up quite well and I maybe wrong but I fear these electronics just won't be going in 50 years but great video

    Very good time lapse video , if nothing else comes out of it Kerr got a good experience of how some of the things come a part and might be useful in some future repair on you machines using the same motor ! Hope you can salvage something out not it !! 16000 hours isn't anything to squawk about most operations would never put that many hours on at all !!

    One bad journal on a crank can be fixed by spray welding or other conventional welding methods, then regrinding the crank to a standard under size as needed.

    What surprise to see the injector pump and other valuable things not used. One of two things come to mind - labor at the dealership is to expensive or John Deere is forcing the dealership to sell it this way for extra revenue. Either way the rebuild must have been outrageous wouldn’t surprised to see a certified or trained mechanic add to the farm if one became available to help Andy do more mechanic worked. I feel for you, dam lucky you can cash flow it.

    I see a lot of value in the fuel system parts. That and that cylinder head probably gonna be your best bet for recuperating some of the $ 3000 for the core charge on the engine itself. As far as you thinking you should have rebuilt it at 10,000 hours… You should have just not let Zach Johnson drive it and it would still be running lol.. no I’m kidding he’s a cool dude. Thanks for taking the time to video all this stuff though. I love looking at blown up engine’s as much as it sucks to deal with. Failure analysis is always very interesting

    I had some bad luck w those engines. I use to own a logging/chipping company and had a feller buncher w the 6068 and went thru 3 engines in 2 years. Rebuilt it first time and didn’t last 6 months. Got a reman from JD and that joker blew a week after warranty went out. JD was good to me though and still paid half on a new reman. Those are good engines, but if you overheat em, seems like it kills it. Cummins was my favorite engine bc seemed like they were bulletproof

    Andy, you should have been the first one into the oil pan on that one because of a curious thread I witnessed in a John Deere forum that blew me away. A poster asked if anyone else found a connecting rod cap bolt loose in the oil pan and the number of yes I did would make a man swear off of sex. Some retorqued and moved on with life and some did an overhaul. But it appears that they commonly back out on their own and that exact evidence is all gone now.

    You could check with your dealer to see if they take cores charges. I'm sure there are cores on the injectors, oil pump, water pump, head, maybe the fuel pump, egr valve, egr cooler probably get around $1000 for all of it when all said and done, just a thought before you scrap them if you don't get them sold.

  • @super6954
    @super6954 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    At 16000 hours you've had your moneys worth out of it anyway . Years ago the motor shop guys I used before they retired told me those JD offset connecting rods are bad for going oval on the rod bearing ends and needing re machining when doing those motors. Maybe thats what started happening to those before the failure.
    If you got 6 or more weirdo's with a piston and rod fetish want to fight over them, and pay you for the experience take their money L.O.L. Even if you donate the money to charity or buy the guys a couple boxes of beer during the year. Something good would still come out of it on top of what you're going to keep and use again. Thanks for the update take care.
