I love to see the whole documentary. These dolls are fab. Blessings to all the sistahs who make beautiful black dolls.
Yea ! very cool documentary,'
I'm a 65 yr old WHITE lady from So.Calif . and well traveled, which means I think I have the big picture.
With this in mind I can only say I have always loved black dolls. I don't know why , except that even though I was
raised in a all white neighborhood and private school etc. I was taught at home and school that we are all loved
the same by God.
I admire the courage and strength demonstrated by so many Black people I seen in my life.
Thank you for being in my world and teaching me something beautiful.......that is you.
Sincerely,
P.S. I have a few black dolls I have collected .
THIS DOCUMENTARY LOOKS AWESOME! I'm white and I grew up with both black and white dolls. (Well, I had Latina and Asian Barbies too.) My favorite non-Barbie doll was Lindy (doll nerds--a Hasbro My Beautiful Doll). I remember having another white girl come over to play at my house and ask me why I had black dolls. I didn't even understand why she would ask that question. She told me she thought they were ugly. Thank god I stopped playing with her rather than give up my dolls!
I still love and collect dolls and I just found myself explaining my multicultural doll collection to some new friends visiting...dolls are awesome and it's important to not just have dolls that look like you, but dolls that reflect the kind of world you want to live in. :)
When I was a little girl my mom used to travel a lot because of her job and the way she would make up for it is bringing me a doll from the country she would go to. My favorite is a brown skinned doll from El Salvador. She is the most beautiful of the bunch :)
I love black dolls because when I look around, I see a reflection of myself. A beautiful black queen.thanks for sharing this video.
I love my people; what other group who have been so oppressed, disrespected, stolen from, etc., yet are still so colorful, loving, creative, and attached to their "Divine" ..., who could create such beauty and reflect it in such a vast variety of ways - even in dolls! Thank you sisters and brothers of the Melanin connection for giving us another venue through which to love, extol, share, and contextualize our diaspora with a visual remembrance. Ashay! Ashay!
Nice job on your film. I agree in embracing your cultural heritage in your doll collection. I have over 2,000 dolls in my collection and keep adding more! It's an addiction.
This is absolutely beautiful. Many thanks and favor to you all for making this.
I love dolls
SO COOOOOL I never played with dolls as a kid, but if and when I have my own I'd really like them to have diverse toys. And these dolls are GORGEOUS!
That's one of our FAVORITE lines in the entire film.

I LOVE IT CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE ENTIRE MOVIE. I AM SO PROUD TO SEE TRUE MANIFESTATION AT IT'S BEST! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! BLESSINGS ALWAYS. YOU ARE MAKING YOUR MARK AND TEACHING THE WORLD ABOUT WHO WE ARE!
the dolls are so interesting and elegant. as a white woman, it was never very apparent to me that black dolls were harder to find but after reading an article a mother had written about trying to find a black baby doll for her child in a major retail store some years ago and having a very hard time i began to notice more and more the abundance of white culture in children's toys. it's so sad because every child should be able to own toys that they can relate to. bless these women.
I'm white, and I'm not a doll person. Never was, even as a kid, though my favorite dolls then were a dark-skinned doll from the Pacific Islands and a Japanese baby doll given to me by a globetrotting aunt. but as an adult, I have started collecting vintage handmade black dolls. I think what draws me to them (besides their beauty) is the idea that someone made this doll to represent a girl who wasn't really going to find a toy that looked like her on the shelf at Toys R Us, and that moves me a lot. I don't have kids so I have no idea what's on those shelves today, if it's gotten easier, since as the owner of a vintage store I only focus on old things. Can't wait to see the full documentary.
More!more!MORE!!!!
I collect dolls, i love all of them, but black dolls are usually so cute.
Thanks Jake! I have to give credit to my DP Jamie Li and of course Michi (Michelle Aguila) who edited this with me. Couldn't have done it without them!
