I usually buy the Kindle book and the audio book. I read and listen simultaneously. This is highly immersive. I often speed the audio up to about 1.5 times the normal rate. This helps me to get through the book much faster. I highlight and take notes. I use my iPad mini for all of this. It has become my reading device of choice. You can’t beat it. If I particularly like the book, I also purchase a physical copy for the shelf. Just to have. I really don’t have a favorite narrator. Although there is this guy who reads techno thrillers like the Vince Flynn Mitch Rap series and I really like his voice.
Dylan Barnes and Nobles is doing this “go on a blind date with a book” for Valentine’s Day. they wrap up novels in paper and you only know the genre of the book. This is would make a nice video for Valentine’s Day
Project Hail Mary as an audiobook was awesome. The narrator was fantastic! I've listened to it three times. I filter my audiobooks by narrator Ray Porter. WWZ, Deevolution, Ready Player One, 14 have awesome production.
I started Project Hail Mary a few months ago on audiobook and got distracted and never finished it but now you’ve reminded me about it again so thank you 😂 I’ll be finishing it soon. I’ve heard Mickey 7 has an awesome, immersive audiobook! The premise of the book sounds really interesting as well. I plan to read it…sometime this year lol Thanks for the video!
Haha I hope you enjoy it once you’re able to finish it up! 😁 I’ll definitely check that one out! Thank you for the recommendation! If you read it before me, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
I totally agree with Project Hail Mary. I definitely agree the story was amazing and could easily bring someone to tears. Great narration- above and beyond! ❤
I introduced audiobooks in my life this year! I have listened to a part of one before but I couldn’t enjoy it then because I would start thinking about other things and lose track of where I was. It was pain in the butt to find the spot I got lost. But then I realized that if it’s a re-read, it might work as I would have a general ideas of the events happen in the book. And it worked!! I’m on the 4th audiobook right now, actually enjoying “re-reading” my last year’s favorites. So maybe I should give another chance to Dune. I struggled with it so much last year that it took me more than six months to finish it because I had to make myself read a chapter a day from a half way in. Maybe if it’s read to me, it could be a different experience. 😊
I completely understand what you mean! I’m usually the same way. I typically only listen to books if I’m doing menial tasks like chores or cooking, but even then, I find myself getting distracted from time to time. I’m glad you’ve found a system that works for you! 😁
Oh my goodness, I couldn't possibly pick _just one_ favorite audiobook! 😂 I love: Dan Stevens' reading of Frankenstein, Thandie Newton's reading of Jane Eyre, Tim Curry's reading of A Christmas Carol, Wil Wheaton's reading of The Martian and pretty much any Jane Austen that Juliet Stevenson narrates. Also love Hugh Fraser's or David Suchet's readings of Agatha Christie. 🤓
One book that really surprised me was, Fahrenheit 451 narrated by actor Tim Robbins. Maybe its because he's an actor , he can portray the character so well through just a voice
I don't normally listen to audiobooks and prefer to read the books. However I do pick out audiobooks for my mother and hear some of them on the speaker when it's playing. I love any Fanny Flagg story, A Redbird Christmas is one that she narrates. She is also an actress, so she does a great job I think with the emotions and different characters in her books. Big Stone Gap is another good audiobook by Adriana Trigiani and she also narrates. I love books that are funny and about small towns in the south. Both authors are from the south, so their accents add something to the narrations. I think I will check out the Huckleberry Finn for my mother next. Elijah Wood actually starred as Huck Finn in the 1993 film, so I can imagine he did a good job in the narration.
Thank you for the recommendations! 😁 Thats right! I completely forgot that he was in the film! I definitely would have mentioned that in the video had I remembered. If she gives it a listen, I hope she enjoys it!
I Have listened to the three Grimnoir Chronicles books by Larry Correia. Hard Magic, Spellbound, Warbound. The aree read by Bronson Pinchot. Fantastic listen.
Can’t say I have favourites in audiobooks. I should start paying attention to narrators’ names. I did enjoy listening to Sir David Attenborough narrate his latest book. And an audiobook that had me so gripped that I walked an extra 5-km so I could hear how something turned out was the non-fiction The Ice At The End Of The World by Jon Gertner. That was a fantastically interesting book and I have both audio and ebook, and if I see it on sale I’d probably get a hard copy too.
I really enjoyed Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel. The book has an interview format and several narrators and it's very immersive. If you're enjoying Neverwhere, i highly recommend American Gods read by an entire ensemble including Ian McShane. Others i really enjoyed were World War Z, JK Rowling's entire Cormoran Strike series read by Richard Glennister and a true crime book that i really liked the story and narration was People Who Eat Darkness by Richard Lloyd Parry and read by Simon Vance. I also recommend Ken Follett's century trilogy starting with Fall of Giants and Boy's Life by Robert McCammon, one of my all time favorite novels.
These Audiobook are so good in my opinion.. 1. Water For Elephants 2. 11/22/63 3. The Book Thief 4. The Giver 5. The Help 6. Life of Pi 7. The Martian 8. Project Hail Mary ☺️
I went through the entire series with Jim Dale. Everyone loves Fry better but it's night and day for me with Dale. If you haven't please give him a try!
Another great review! I've read a couple of the books mentioned, but not audible. So far I haven't signed up for audible because money is so tight right now, but eventually I would like to. Love your channel! 😊👍🐾
I'm really glad that I found your post! Where did you get your Book Worm tee shirt? I'd like to get one for myself. My Book Club and I will be discussing PROJECT HAIL MARY in December and I will definitely listen to it rather than read it based on your comments. I am currently listening to REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES by Shelby Van Pelt and narrated by Marin Ireland and Michael Urie and I'm really enjoying it. I also loved Tom Hanks' narration of THE DUTCH HOUSE by Ann Patchett, even though the book was a "downer" and Meryl Streep's narration of TOM LAKE, also by Ann Patchett, which honestly was boring, but Streep's narration made it tolerable for me. I'll be back to see what other audiobooks you have to recommend. Take care!
My all time favourite audiobook series is written by Michael Anderle and the narrator is Emily Berisford. (Appologies for misspelling of the name!) There is the traditional audiobook format and a 'dramatized' version by Graphic Audio. I'm absolutely hooked on both the original audiobooks and the dramatized version. Emily portrays the lead character, Bethony-Anne in the most spectacular mannor and she was chosen to continue the voice during the dramatized version due to the way she brings the energy, personality and fury of the main character. I must warn you however, this series contains masses of expletive laden exchanges and 'creative cussing'! This is a fantasy scifi series that has its own univers of interconnected and standalone books and stories criscrossing the main storyline. I highly recommend this. Please let me know your thoughts. If anyone's heard these, wow, what a ride we're beeing taken on lol. 10/10 recommendation!
Glad I came across this video as I've been looking for ideas. I read Dune years ago but I might give the audiobook a go. My fav audiobooks have been The Clan of the Cave Bear (read by Rowena Cooper), Garth Moreghi's Terrortome (read by the fake author) and it's not for everyone but Blood Meridian as well.
I personally love Michael Kramer, who does a lot of Brandon Sanderson books. There's something about his voice that I love. I love John Saul and he wrote a book called Perfect Nightmare. It was narriated in part by Dick Hill. He did all the male voices and Susie Breck did the female voices. Hill did the prologue, which was in the POV of the villain and he was so creepy and hit the nail on the head so hard that I was so creeped out. I almost decided to read the book physically rather than have this dude in my ear. But I didn't. He did so good, I totally believed his narration.
Some favorites of mine: The Name of The Wind read by Nick Podehl One Flew over the cuckoos nest read by John C Reilly David Copperfield read by Richard Armitage All excellent Novels with incredible narration!
Chaos by Tom O’Neill is a PHENOMENAL audiobook. I’ve audiobooked it like 6 times. It’s my secret comfort sleepy time book. But funny enough when I first listened to it, it kept me up. Great book.
I would suggest the 2021 unabridged audio of Lord of the Rings, narrated by Andy Serkis. Yes, Gollum. A different vibe than the classic Rob Inglis recordings.
Thank you for the video. Do you find that audiobooks are more memorable to “read” rather than an actual book? Recently, I have listened to Finding Me - Viola Davis. This is a memoir that is read by the author, who happens to be an actress. This powerful book had me riveted to my seat from the outset. I have also read The Guncle - Steven Rowley. This is quite a funny book with some serious overtones. A brother, who is entering rehab asks his gay brother to look after his young children. A lovely, sweet book that is read by the author. Finally, I read Lessons in Chemistry - Bonnie Garmus and narrated by Miranda Raison.
They certainly can be! I find that if a narrators performance is especially strong, it really elevates an otherwise mediocre story. Those sound like good reads!
Can you do a review on TH-cam audiobook centric Science Fiction authors, and narrators? Some favorites I've found are Authors - Gerald Kilby, Craig Falconer, PE Rowe, LARS - (SCI-FI ) , and Narrators - ASN Agro Squirrel Narrates, PE Rowe, and Bloody Bookmarker.
#1 always and forever - Silence of the Lambs 25th anniversary, written by Thomas Harris read by Frank Muller - So so so so good. One of the best books ever read by Frank Muller to perfection. Cannot recommend enough. Much better than the awesome movie.
Stephen Fry does the British version of Harry Potter, but if you're listening on audible, he also does the Complete Sherlock Holmes works, which are excellent and also FREE to listen to for audible members.
I've read all joe abercrombie books they are verry grim dark and they are all awesome! The blade itself particularly is really good. If you like dark books youl like this one his characters are legendary bloody nine and glopta and many more are awesome
Hey homie! I'm an avid true crime on audible listener. Came across your channel looking for a different type of book to listen to. Where did you get your shirt man i love it!
World war Z is one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to. Full cast voicing different characters, and it is recorded like interviews. VERY cool.
I’m currently listening to the Harry Potter series with Jim Dale and I am not liking him at all. He made the characters sound really whiny and the way he narrated certain dialogues didn’t really seem to fit the scenes. I’m currently in the 4th book and it’s better, but the way the first 3 books were narrated made many of the characters so annoying to me.
Project Hail Mary is my very favorite audio book ever! The harmonics are just spot on.
Yes! It was so unique and made the story so much more fun to listen to!
Me too! Ray Porter is the best reader and Rocky's voice was perfect.
Can you please tell me where I can find this audiobook, is it only present on audible?
I usually buy the Kindle book and the audio book. I read and listen simultaneously. This is highly immersive. I often speed the audio up to about 1.5 times the normal rate. That’s a great video idea! Thank you so much! 😁
Project Hail Mary and ray porter absolutely killed it, so glad you mentioned it, currently looking for a follow up to that, my fav
Added a couple books to my audiobook list! Would love to see more videos like this in the future!
I’m glad there were a few you found interesting! 😁 Thanks for the feedback! I’ll have to plan on doing a part 2 some time in the future!
Project Hail Mary as an audiobook was awesome. The narrator was fantastic! I've listened to it three times.
I filter my audiobooks by narrator Ray Porter.
WWZ, Deevolution, Ready Player One, 14 have awesome production.
First audible book i tried last year. I was crying by the end

Oh man. Project Hail Marys narrator is the same man who voiced Darkseid in Justice League. Great audio book.
Haha I know, it’s hard to choose just one!
Thank you for the great recommendations! 😁
Ahh!! Love your shirt! I have the same design on a bookmark, and it’s my favorite! Listening to Project Hail Mary now, and loving it!
Haha thank you! 😁 That sounds like a really cute bookmark!
So glad you’re loving Project Hail Mary! Such a great story!
Project Hailmary is just an amazing experience as an audiobook . Excellent Voice acting and performance elavated the story to new heights

The First Law audiobooks are my all time favorites
I can’t decide if I want to read the next two or listen to them! 😅 I loved the first one on audio so much!
Stephen pacey narration is incredible. There's only sandman with better audio experience and that's an ensemble cast
Project Hail Mary is amazing!

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I’m currently listening to 11/22/63 on audio and it is great! I’ll have to try some of the others, too! 😁
I did project hail Mary! Pretty good!
I went through the entire series with Jim Dale. Everyone loves Fry better but it's night and day for me with Dale. If you haven't please give him a try!
My illiterate ass loves audio books.
Good call on project Hail Mary, the rest don’t peak my interest. You might want to try Columbus Day of expeditionary force series.
Another great review! I've read a couple of the books mentioned, but not audible. So far I haven't signed up for audible because money is so tight right now, but eventually I would like to. Love your channel! 😊👍🐾

haha thank you so much! :) My wife got it for me for Christmas and it's been my favorite shirt ever since
I would suggest the 2021 unabridged audio of Lord of the Rings, narrated by Andy Serkis. Yes, Gollum. A different vibe than the classic Rob Inglis recordings.
Dune was my first audible book
Loved the series Stormlight Archives for fantasy

Wait what… not Stephen Fry 😲😲
Ooo.. ya know, I’m not sure if I’ve listened to any of his work! I’ll have to change that soon.
Stephen Fry is an amazing Narrator but I would love to listen to the Jim Dale version too because I know his voices are brilliant
Stephen Fry does the British version of Harry Potter, but if you're listening on audible, he also does the Complete Sherlock Holmes works, which are excellent and also FREE to listen to for audible members.
Dylan Johns ThanksMuch!

Stephen Fry is the best narrator for Harry Potter books. He also has other books. He is just great with voices.

My experience was totally different. I love Jim Dale!
I had an amazing experience but it was by Stephen Fry
Do yourself a favor, Dylan, and give this a try; I'm listening to it on like my 10th time: --> The Trading Game by Gary Stevenson
Disorder by rokia
Catch 22

Incredibly boring cliche list
It is a super mainstrem list for sure, care to share?
