Sketchup Importer does not work for MAC only on Windows. Haven't found a reasonable workaround yet.

Same here with 3.4. I opened an older version 3.2 and it still will not enable. The add on installs fine, the enable checkbox is there but it disallows you to enable it. The dev's page is littered with complaint issues still open and unanswered.

You can use limited dissolve to clean up the mesh after importing.

Not always. It depends of the quality of the mesh, but you are right, it's a way to clean up things at least a little.
