- This time on Chit Chat History, its all about England's Floating Prison ships. Transportation became popular and these Hulks were meant to be temporary in design and implementation, but resulted in semi permanent status and consequences of creating a new nation across the world.
Let us know what you think if this could be done today?

My ancestor was Convicted for theft in 1823 as a 16 year old and
Sentenced to 7 Years Transportation to Van Diemens Land ( Tasmania ) -
he spent 1 year on a Thames Prison Hulk before leaving London for the 5
month journey by Ship to Hobart Town. There he spent 7 years as an
indentured servant to a Master working the land before receiving his
Certificate of Freedom. a Sentence of Transportation was basically a
life sentence to leave your home Country and all Family you ever had -
behind - forever. He ended up having 11 Children, being a Carpenter and
eventually a Householder or Multiple Property Owner in Launceston
It's amazing to learn about elements of history such as this. I think understanding and being able to imagine the lives of people in the past is very important.
I spent time on HMP Weir...what a terrible place it was too...the best thing about the place was the reading light above the bunks...as that was all there was to do. Some days I would read 2 books in a day.
Excellent presentation, very informative good hard facts without labouring times and dates, which generally put people off history. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the tone you use and how comfy the vibe is. I wish the pace was a bit faster tho. Keep it up I'll watch any topic you make
Thank you for the great feedback!
I have been to the ‘dead mans island’ where a lot of the bones remain of the prisoners. Chilling but fascinating! Thanks for the video
Didn't know that this still was going on just a few years ago.
I'm digging your commentary, and it's not just because you're British. PS I have step relatives in the Donner party!

That prison is a sister ship of the Bibby Stockholm in Dorset
What a daft comment.
