The government has bitten the hand that feeds them. It’s frightening the long term effects it will have. The kRM is doing a great job in some wet conditions. Keep up the good work Richard and team.
Yes I feel for the farmers and land owners, 20% on land over £1,000,000 is a disgrace. Labour hoodwinked the voting public and they fell for it. Be warned this is just the start. On another note I'm not surprised with the bridge costs, there is a sunken lane very near me near Yeovil called Chinnock Hollow and there was a tree slipped onto the road blocking it, the councils assessment was to cost £2,000,000 yes 2 million to open the road so they closed it for good. Now this road was a narrow and steep but very useful for many people to get onto the A30. A farmer got fed up and cleared it with there equipment in one night, yes one night, the road was perfectly drive-able. The council hated being shown up and closed it again for good. It's a disgrace how we get ripped off by incompetent public workers who have only ever been paid money and not ever had to make money.
I think the Labour Government should have kept the exemption for Farm IHT exemption. It does not make sense to break up or lose farms, a lot of farmers will be considering their options post budget is it worthwhile to plough on literally in this cold house environment created by the Government. Sad times . Money has to come from somewhere I suppose and I believe there will be other tax raids later on when they think things have settled a little. Good to see the Claas back in action.
Years ago I had some land next to a Council owned playing field. The Council approached me and asked if we could renew the post and wire mutual fence. They said that they would get a quote and I said I would also get a price. My quote was almost half the price that they were given. I knew both the fencers and basically the Council were being rooked because they were the Council. The Council chap could not believe that my quote was correct, but agreed that we went ahead with it and got a first class fence.
There are so many examples of way over priced jobs, as you say roads closed for excessive periods of time. By law you have to be insured, that should be at cost then, make it cheaper next year if you've not claimed. Education is indoctrination in many cases like the climate and sex Ed. Planning they do a they like but you can't. Kent Council have or are going to put up a solar farm in Somerset, how on earth is that the case? Who was asked?
I always say the value of the farm is irrelevant while you own it because all it is is an access to a lifestyle. I think the government presume we make profits in line with normal businesses

A farm is simply a job that it passed on to the next generation who is stupid enough to to work 7 days a week, I feel sick after watching the budget
