    Two years ago my mother Veronica aged 93 years died on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception December 8th .I'm just realising now that my mother was born February 11th which was the first day the little girl met Our Blessed Lady as she was praying the Rosary.Our Blessed Lady later revealed her name to the little girl on her request. Our Lady said "I am the Immaculate Conception." My earthly mother must be proud to have shared these special dates with Our Heavenly Mother. God Bless you mom.

    Last night I went to a Knights of Columbus meeting at my local catholic church and during the meeting, one of the Knights was discussing about Marian Apparitions especially from Lourdes France. And he told me that if I say my rosary perfectly then it's a perfect crown of roses for Mary.

    You basically summed it all up in a few mins Fr. Barron. I like the video. Thanks. I've been to Lourdes a few times and the reason is because of Bernadette. Her poor background is similar to mine growing up. I get hope when I think that someone extraordinary like Our Lady would condescend to visit someone like Bernadette. Such humility on both parts is awesome and inspiring and its one of the reasons I love Our Lady.

    Believe it or not (I don't care), I have been suddenly healed at Lourdes in 2013, on the Ascension Day of a back pain that lasted for several years and required surgery. I remember that I didn't ask anything for me but for my family ! No massage, no treatment, no medication! I'll return to Lourdes this year on the Ascension Day to thank God, the Holy Virgin and Ste Bernadette. Like in 2013, I'll first stop in Nevers to pray Ste Bernadette in front of her incorrupt body.

      bornagainsaint1 Mary was protected from the stain of original sin from conception. That is why she is referred to as the "Immaculate Conception". If you believe in a virgin birth, how hard is it for you to believe that God preserved the receptacle of that birth? Mary is the Mother of Jesus, Jesus is both man and God so therefore she is also the mother of God. How hard is it to believe that God the Father wanted a pure receptacle to bring into the world his only begotten son? Although Mary was only a human being, it would be wrong to not venerate her. As far as that part goes, read the Magnificat, but as far as the Immaculate Conception goes, it is not that hard to grasp.
      Also, if you do not accept the church's teachings, why waste your time with these videos? Either you are curious and really do wish to know more about the faith or you are just bored. If you are just bored, anti-catholic comments wont shake faithful Catholics who know their faith. If you truly want to know and understand the church and its teachings for what it really is, not the misconceptions you think you know, I would be happy to inform you and point you in the right direction.
      Peace be with you, God bless you.

    The Immaculate Conception is deeply mysterious, so a couple of dismissive remarks on TH-cam won't throw the Church into confusion. The Church knows its theology and how to present it. What this film shows is that Lourdes is a beautiful place of peace and spiritual serenity. I've been about 12 times, from the age of 50 onwards. It is remarkable how huge crowds can be so serene, so joyful, without any ill-feeling or bad-temper, despite the crush. Lourdes is filled with divine peace and love.

    • @kdmdlo
      @kdmdlo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Well, to begin, you're wrong. Clearly Eve and Adam were created sinless. So there have been at least three people that were so created (that includes Christ). Now, what about Mary? She is the new Eve; Eve brought sin into the world through her choice (Gn 3:6) but Mary brought salvation into the world through her choice (Lk 1:38) and enabled the serpent's head to be crushed by Christ (Gn 3:15). So if Eve (who got it wrong) was created sinless, how much more so would Mary (who got it right) have to be created sinless? I always find it interesting that some people can easily accept the virgin birth (an act of God) but can't accept the immaculate conception (again, an act of God). Is it so hard to imagine that the Father would want a perfect receptacle (Mary) for His Son? And, not for nothing, Mary too needed a Savior too. But the merits of His sacrifice were simply applied to her in advance. So she was preserved from sin by her Savior ... we are cleaned up from our sins by our Savior.

    Back in the early 1940's my parents had a book of black and white photos of famous places. No descriptions. Thumbing thru, I saw Mount Everest, Victoria Falls, Taj Mahal etc. Then I turned to a little cave. "What is this doing with all these spectacular places?" I thought. I made this great, internal gasp, chills ran up and down my spine. I said internally: "Something happened here!!" Very excited I ran to my folks and said "What is this Place??!!" Lourdes. Haunted me for a lifetime.

    Q. I was asked this question: that Virgin Mary needed a savior!
    A. Though Mary, is Truly the Immaculate Conception aka Born Without Sin. Jesus Christ is not only Her Son and Her God, but also, Her SAVIOR!
    Not as saving Her because she was born in sin, Like Us, but SAVING Virgin Mary from the NOTHINGNESS, that She was, to a CREATED BEING, SO PERFECTLY CREATED, FULL OF GRACE, because of who She is today, THE MOTHER OF GOD. Amen
    As Virgin Mary Stated: "...My Spirit has rejoiced in God My Savior..."
    Hail Mary, Full of Grace.

      +Tim Spangler Tim, do you believe that Christians today must keep the Commandments of God???
      Tim, Scripture states that we must keep the commandments of God , in order to be Her SEED/Children, as it states in Revelation 12: 17 BELO:
      REVELATION 12:17And the dragon was angry against the woman: and went to make war with the rest of HER seed, WOH KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
      Tim, it is never "FINISHED" WE MUST KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD...

      +Martin Sandoval Jesus; 'It is finished".
      That you say it is NEVER finished is a lie from the pit.

    • @TuyenPham-jm5eq
      @TuyenPham-jm5eq 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim Sprangler,
      There are three distinct but connected chapters in the totality of God’s plan for our salvation: Creation, Redemption, and Sanctification.
      The work of creation began, Gen 1:1, “In the beginning, when God create the Heavens and the earth,” and finished by the end of the sixth day.
      The work of redemption began at the instant when Mary pronounced her ‘Fiat’ and conceived in her womb our Savior, and ended when Jesus said “It is finished.”.
      The work of sanctification began on the Pentecost, is now in progress, and will not finish until Christ will return to receive his body, his bride, his wife, his sanctified church. See Revelation 21.
      Therefore when Jesus said “It is finished.” he finished what he was sent to do; God’s plan for our salvation was not finished at this point. So Christ Alone does not mean, and can not be understood as there is nothing left for us, his body, to do. If there is nothing left for us to do, Christ wouldn’t command us to go and make disciples of all nations, and he wouldn’t give this command after he had said “It is finished.”, Mat 28:19, 20, “(19) Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, until the close of the age." Also if there is nothing left for us to do, God can not work in us, Phil 2:13, “For God is the one who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work." But it is understandable, however, when someone who rejects being a member of Christ’s body said, Christ did it all and there is nothing left for me to do; all I need to do is to enjoy being saved.

    • @patrickfoley4990
      @patrickfoley4990 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martin Sandoval I guess just because Mary was born without sin wouldn't necessarily exempt her from sin after her birth and more so after the birth of Jesus. I believe Mary is ever Virgin and sinless but it is a very good theological question.

    That she is infinitely small next to God. That she is a creature created by God. But that God chose to use her to incarnate His son through which He would save the entire world. Not by her merits, but by the Grace of God. That she is a perfect model of what it means to say "YES" to Christ & to follow him perfectly. That Jesus loves and honors his mother so we should to. And that we should call her blessed (as scripture demands). And all reasonable implications that come w all that.

    • @mattkylie6723

      You must be careful in how you speak about God’s mother, of course Jesus has no equal but he alone can address his mother as the lowly handmaiden because he’s perfect we are not; and therefore must be mindful of how we address certain aspects of his perfect mother

      Very wrong Ewald Radavich! A sick parson needs doctor, but not all who need doctors are sick. Well people need doctors to stay well. So Mary needs a savior does not mean she is a sinner.
      Don't you think God can and should create a perfect mother for his only Son?

      Tuyen Pham. I'm giving u information that the rcc should b teaching & informing their parishioners. If u 2 turn on the radio 2 hear music or news or whatever & ur not dialed correctly u don't hear what ur after. If u don't have the Holy Spirit residing with n your spirit the bible is just gobble guk. 1st. U need 2 tell Jesus ur sorry 4 ur sins then ask Him 2 reside n your spirit and direct ur life. Ezekiel 38-39 old testament has not occurred yet but is working up 2. Several countries r going 2 attack Israel & zGod is going 2 take them out. Damascus will b left as a jeep of rubble. The rcc needs 2 teach their parishioners about this as well as the coming rapture of the church as well as the tribulation
      The bible says it will b the worst that man has seen or will ever c. In order 2 escape this turmoil one must b born again. I'm not pumping coal n ur ear. This is what the bible says. This why it's imperative 2 study the bible 2 know these things. Check this out 4 urself. I'm beyond trying 2 defend the biblical position vs religion. I've been doing this since 86. A great bible teacher 2 listen 2 is Joe Focht

    On December 8, 1854 Pope Pius IX defined as dogma that Mary of Nazareth was conceived without original sin. By this dogma, the Catholic Church confesses: “The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin.” (CCC #491-492, 508)
    Unfortunately, many Christians objected this dogma. Referring to Rm. 5:12-13, they argued that since sin has spread to all men, and that sin has been in the world before the law was given; Mary could not be conceived without sin. In addition, for Mary to be conceived without sin, they argued, her parents would have to be sinless as well. So was Mary conceived without sin?
    To answer this question, and to understand this teaching of the Catholic Church, it would be helpful to begin with the Book of Exodus, chapters 25-30. In these chapters, through Moses, the Lord commanded the Israelites to build a sanctuary that he may dwell in their midst.
    Within the boundary of the sanctuary were the tabernacle, the altar for burnt offering, the bronze laver and its base, and many other furnishings for the tabernacle. The heart of the sanctuary, however, was the tabernacle, which housed the Ark of the Covenant. When the Lord commanded the Israelites to build this sanctuary, he was very specific about the exact details as how everything had to be made, but most noticeable were the construction of the Ark of the Covenant, and the blending of the holy anointing oil. Concerning the construction of the Ark, the Lord said: Ex 25:10-22, (10) You shall make an ark of acacia wood; two and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits wide, and one and a half cubits high. (11) And you shall overlay it with pure gold, within and without shall you overlay it, and you shall make upon it a molding of gold round about. See Ex 25:12-22 for more details. To blend the anointing oil, the Lord commanded, Ex 30:23-25, (23) Take the finest spices: of liquid myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, that is, two hundred and fifty, and of aromatic cane two hundred and fifty, (24) and of cassia five hundred, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and of olive oil a hin; (25) and you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the perfumer; a holy anointing oil it shall be.
    The Lord further commanded: Ex 30:26-29, (26) With this sacred anointing oil you shall anoint the meeting tent and the ark of the covenant,
    (27) and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, (28) and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils and the laver and its base. Then the Lord declared, Ex 30:29, When you have consecrated them, they shall be most holy; whatever touches them shall be holy. Thus, creatures consecrated to the Lord became holy, but note that the Ark became most holy even if, at the time of the consecration, it was empty, (Ex 25:16), and that the anointing oil was holy even if it wasn’t consecrated to the Lord. The anointing oil was holy because the Lord preserved it to be holy, he said, Ex 30:25, “...; a holy anointing oil it shall be.”
    So Scriptures tell Christians that though this world has been under a curse (Gn. 3:17-19), and that sin has spread to all men (Rm. 5:12); the Lord, in his omnipotence, can always have any of his creatures consecrated to him, and he can always preserve any of his creatures for his ‘personal use’. When he did, consecrated and preserved creatures became holy.
    Scriptures also tell Christians that the Lord had the old Ark of the Covenant made to house his covenant with the Israelites, or the stone tablets on which the ten commandments or the words of the Lord were written (Ex 40:20). This covenant was not the last, nor was it eternal; yet the Ark, which housed it, had to be the most holy. How holy then Mary, the Ark of the New Covenant, in whom the Eternal Word dwells has to be? Therefore, since the old Ark which was made of acacia wood, by human hands, and covered with pure gold was the most holy among all things; the new Ark, Mary, who was created by God’ hands, over shadowed by the Most High (Lk 1:35), from whom the Eternal Word received his flesh must be the most holy among all creatures.
    One question, which will surely arise is: Who consecrated Mary to God? The answer is, of course, Mary did. She consecrated herself to God, and she did it freely saying, Lk. 1:38, Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word. By her consecration of self, the Word incarnated in her virginal womb, and in her the Word really, truly, and substantially dwelled. Mary must be the most holy among all creatures, angels included. This, understandably, will lead us to the next question: Was Mary the most holy only from the time she consecrated herself to God, or was she always the most holy? As pointed out earlier, the old Ark was the most holy when it housed the words of God as well as when it was empty. Mary, the New Ark, therefore, had to be the most holy when she carried Jesus in her womb as well as when Jesus was not physically in her. In other words, Mary was the most holy throughout her life. This was so, for just in the same way that God had preserved the anointing oil to be holy, so that, by this oil, God gave consecrated creatures their holiness; God had also preserved Mary to be holy and free from sin, so that, through her, God gave his only Son to the world. This preservation, through Prophet Isaiah, God had announced to his people: Is 7:14, Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: The virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.
    So it’s clear that God had preserved Mary to be the Virgin; God had also made his will known more than 700 years before Mary was conceived in her mother’s womb. Mary, therefore, had to be the most holy and free from original sin at the time of her conception.
    Thus, by defining as dogma that Mary of Nazareth was conceived without original sin, the Catholic Church did not define the Immaculate Conception as a new revelation. Instead, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, she only brought forward the favor, which the Almighty had bestowed on Mary, Lk. 1:30, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” This favor was only one of the many great things the Almighty had done for her so that all ages will call her blessed. (Lk. 1:39-56) Who through all ages will call her blessed? Only Mary’s offspring will. The offspring of her adversary will undoubtedly never call her blessed. (Gn 3:14-15)
    Finally, as for the argument: if Mary was conceived without sin, her parents would have to be sinless as well. It’s clear that since the consecration of the Ark made holy only the acacia wood and the gold which was used in the construction of the Ark, and that God preserved only Mary to be holy and free from sin to be the mother of his Son; neither the rest of the acacia wood and gold were made holy nor Mary’s parents were preserved to be sinless.
    Christians, please pray: “O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.” By praying this prayer, we ask Mary to pray for us, not that we pray to her.

    But why not just say that "I am blessed by the Lord" Why say, "And henceforth all ages shall call me Blessed"? Also, when Gabriel made came to her, he said she is "Full of Grace". The fullest in grace one can be is to never be stained by sin. This clearly states that she was not stained by sin. Next, what did the Christians do to gain salvation for the first 300 year when there was no Bible? Next, can you trace your authority to interpret the Bible back through time to Christ?

    What on Earth makes you come to that conclusion? Your doubt. Somebody told you this? Was it Martin Luther? Do you follow him? That may be the source of your errors. We are saved by God through his grace. It is faith and works in the context of God's grace that fulfills this connection. Works flow from true faith, but we must remember that we are saved by God's grace. And if God chooses to send Mary to talk to a young child.... He most certainly has that perogative. Wouldn't you agree?

    Was it true that when the Blessed Virgin referred to herself to Saint Bernadette as The Immaculate Conception, that this was one of the reasons her story became believable to the Church, because they felt there was no way this simple child could have known that this had become a recent part of the doctrine in the Catholic Church?

      NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I AM SO SORRY THAT YOU'RE NOT INFORMED, AND NOT IN UNDERSTANDING !! In the Old Jewish Aramaic, it was UNDERSTOOD that anyone who was filled with the, Grace of God, (The Grace of God is ABSOLUTELY, pure, it's God's own Grace and nothing is sinful from God Himself.) was SINLESS (anyone who had God's Grace).
      If she had the Grace of God filled in Her, that left NO ROOM FOR SIN.
      And then the ArchAngel Gabriel, specifically said, "the Lord is with Thee." Which meant, yes, this is the Grace from the Lord God Himself.
      I am sorry for the capitals. I just feel bad and wanted to express how important the misunderstanding was.

    I don't understand why Mary needed an immaculate conception for us to love her or Jesus. It also seems like the idea of Mary's immaculate conception has been far from obvious to many Catholics throughout the ages. Even Thomas Aquinas didn't believe it. I don't understand why people focus on such details that may not even be knowable.

To use good ol "born-again" language, it says so, right there in the Bible! The fact you're clearly are ignorant of this, is kinda scary - for a person claiming to be a "Christian"!!! sfappetrupavelandrei "the teaching that She was born without original sin has the problem that if it could be on earth someone without any sin than Christ's crucifixion loses it's meaning. He died for us because no one could be born without any sin. "
    Christ's sacrifice has meaning and value not for that reason, but by the reason that only a victim of infinite value could pay the debt we owed for Sin. Even a human creature who was kept free from Sin from conception does not have that value. Only a God-Man could have the value to be a sacrifice sufficient to pay the debt we owed. No human creature, not even Immaculate Mary, has infinite value in that regard.
    Mary was preserved from all stain of Original Sin, that's why she was also free from personal sins. Logically, if she had contracted Original Sin, she would have also suffered it's side-effects (weakened will, disordered desires and darkened intellect) and would have committed some sins (even if not mortal ones). As it is, she did not sin personally because God preserved her from falling into the mire of Original Sin in the first place. We who are born again into God's family, however, are pulled up out of that mudpit. Original Sin is washed away, but the stain remains and we tend to sin because of that stain.

      Even Jesus said "Why do you call Me good?" & said that He "ate & drank" & was called a "glutton & a drunkard" by some, tho' He didn't sin. Matthew 11:18
      I thought that Mary "conceived without sin" was in reference to her conceiving Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, without sinning, as some thought she did. She was obviously a pretty perfect young lady for God to have chosen her, but the Bible does say that "all have fallen short of the glory of the LORD". It IS His salvation for us that is most important, anyway....so anything that could be "over-thought" or argued is taking away from that.

    • @AmericanBerean
      @AmericanBerean 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      HisForGlory You have a good point, about "over-thought". For example, between Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, the only differences are really only differences when some over-analyzing is implemented. They are essentially doctrinally the same (ie both sides view the other's Sacraments as valid and the priesthood as Apostolicly-rooted).
      But regarding Mary's sinlessness & perpetual virginity, it's not a case of "over-thinking" things. The indepth theological discourses on the subject are not what generated the doctrines, but just the opposite. The concept existed from Apostolic times and later generations of theologians came up with the deeper theological analyses of it, sometimes resulting in dogmatic pronouncements of various Councils. These pronouncements were necessary because men periodocally came about, preaching errors regarding the doctrines.
      Check out the early Christian Writings, they support all the doctrines which modern Catholicism adheres to. www.staycatholic.com/early_church_fathers.htm

      If you believe she was a sinner then you therefore imply the fruit of her Womb “God” himself is sinner also!! as if you knew scripture you would know imperfection or sin is past on through flesh or by that of our parents!!! so as you see Holy Mary too was perfect!! prepared and made so by God.

      Of course, she is NOT God! But she is the Queen of Angels, billions of servants to receive the prayers of her devotees from all around the globe. She stands by the throne of God and contemplates His infinite Majesty, and helps those who pray to God through her.
