You know, they probably removed dismemberment due to the backlash against violence in videogames, and they probably added the flying thing so it still looks powerful and intimidating. Just look at gta 3, they all die in place or fall back at best.

This is because the shrapnel from the grenade is what’s supposed to kill you.

GTA 3 on PC was like that because the body of peds were made in blocks the head , arms , torso and legs. So it was quite fun to watch and shoot the legs and hands and heads off with snipers. Although the Android one was like every other GTA series they fixed that with graphics development.
