  • As temperatures soar across the nation, it's important to stay cool. Lifestyle guru Erika Katz recommends freezing your bed sheets to cool off during the nighttime. She also says drinking hot beverages and taking hot showers helps your body sweat, cooling you off. Other tips include soaking your feet in cold water and dabbing yourself with a mixture of witch hazel and body wipes.

    NEVER use anything hot on someone at risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke! They're usually unable to sweat, so this will make them worse, not better. Also, using heat on anyone is not a good idea. Anything that uses sweat to cool a person down gives them a risk of dehydration. Using heat is all round bad advice. Your body should not be encouraged to sweat more than it would by itself. For context, I'm an advanced first aider & a health scientist.

      Hi. Just a question please. I sweat a lot naturally. I’m in good shape. My fitness is good. I train in mma. But I sweat literally 2-5 minutes into the workout. It was really hot in the Uk on Monday and Tuesday. And in the evening wrestling session. I was dripping with sweat within about 7 mins. And I trained that morning already. So already sweated that day in the morning. But the evening session. I was dripping more. I’m literally the only one who drips with sweat. Everyone else does sweat. But when I train. On the Matt you can see loads of sweat on it. Compares to others. Is this an unhealthy thing to sweat to much ?

    • @Monica_bondevik
      @Monica_bondevik 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@jimmybaldwin737 hey, the amount you sweat can be genetic and doing exercise in the heat we've had in the UK will make it worse. I highly advise changing your method of work out while the temperature is 30°c+ like swimming inside of run, weights or really anything else as the water will cool you down and you won't dehydrate so quickly. Also drink plenty of water especially if you sweat a lot

    I live and work in Death Valley, CA. It's 120 degrees as I type this. Let me give you some advice. Move slow when outside. Don't stay outside for very long. Avoid alcohol drinks because alcohol dehydrates you. Drink lots of water and drinks with electrolytes. And here's the biggest one. Have AC!
    On a side note.... your body does acclimate to your environment. I visited my dad in Phoenix where it was 108, and 108 felt comfortable to me because my body was used to 120+ degrees. When I went to Michigan where it was 85, I felt a little chilly.

    The problem with the "sweat" part is that the more humidity the less you cool off from sweat, since that sweat cannot be blown away. Sweat is a cooling mechanism when it can be taken from the body. If it's too humid, and then those higher temps (and so, heat index), the less that sweat is removed from the body, and so, the sweat thing won't happen as much. That makes the sweat part counterproductive to what they were trying to do. That, after telling us that it sounds counterproductive to add heat. That's why it's counterproductive. But, thanks for the tips.

    The hot drink trick dose not work in the UK bc it's so humid when it's hot.

    When my grandmother was little in the 1920's, during heat waves her mother would order an extra ice block from the ice delivery man. She would put the ice block in front of a fan and it would keep the living room cooler by a few degrees all day long.

    Put the mister or sprinklers on when it's hot.
    Water the garden then put a big ice cube out at night in the coolest part of the garden or outdoor area. It will cool down the night and the next day.
    Then put another ice cube out early morning and water again.
    Having many ice cubes in the freezer makes the freezer nice and cold too

    I did a life experiment on difference taking cold and hot shower. I always take hot shower during hot day because it feels like I'm wearing heat proof armor, whereas taking cold shower causes your body to feel like you're an ice cream and melting during hot day
