    Even if Tamiya does not license some of their bodies, they are still a work of art, they never disappoint. As always a great review, and running video Greg. 👍

    Looks like a decent release from Tamiya 🙂 will get pretty costly after fitting oil dampers and ball bearings, which almost is a must if used as a runner. But Tamiya always delivers the fun factor 👍 and that's what matters the most.

    Great video. I agree with all. I just built mine. I put oil shocks and full bearings. I installed a Tamiya BZ motor and 2s lipo, it pop wheelies. I also changed the tires to some INJORA RC Tires 2.2inch on mine. They look fantastic!

    nice to see a fixed axle alternative to the Clod by Tamiya. I was planning on building a Bigfoot 4 with a hybrid leaf and shock suspension based off the SCX10, but this seems like it might be a much better host if it can handles the weight from the Jconcepts golden years

    I love Tamiya kits they bring me back to when i was kid. that being said i am surprised parts didnt break during this session. I don't understand why they continue to use that brittle hard plastic. they could keep their designs the exact same, just use a Losi, Associated, Traxxas or Arrma type plastic. they would still keep the "shelf queen" market while picking up some of the backyard basher market.

    • @lukespector5550
      @lukespector5550 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Japanese economy is F---ED. There's virtually NO money for future R & D at Tamiya, Kyosho, etc....... This company is like Morgan Cars UK. All they can afford to do is re-release kits that my generation (I'm 44 years old) had growing up. Also, like Rolex, they keep supply way below demand. This makes retailers & resulting customers feel they're getting something "special" for the money.

    • @josephribaudo2216
      @josephribaudo2216 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @philthyco1 ok maybe it's not the exact same plastic from the 80's but it's the worst plastic in the industry (out of any major brands). unless you get their top of the line on road kits nearly every kit is the same brittle plastic. Imagine if they released this kit with ball bearings, oil filled shocks and comparable arrma,traxxas,losi,associated plastic. This would be a dream, I would buy 10 of them. face it for the most part tamiya kits are really just models to be placed on a shelf.

      @philthyco1 I guess we will have to agree to disagree. great going back and forth with you,, while keeping it polite. by the way, I have built 7 tamiya kits, both old and new. not a lot compared to some, but more than most. have a great weekend.

    How would it do with a high turn motor and some really stiff grease in the diff? Would it crawl?

    • @rcdriver
      @rcdriver  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It could trail, but I don’t know about rock crawl. Long wheelbase, low chassis. It would probably hang up. Tamiya sells locking putty that would be better than grease if you were to try it.

    I always wanted a Tamiya back when I was 12 in the early 90s like the Thunder dragon, Midnight Pumpkin or Clodbuster. But I never had one instead I got a Red Arrow from radio shack it was decent. Forward over 30 years I have no interest now in Tamiya, I'll stick to my Losi, Arrma, Team associated, Redcat and even traxxas RCs.

  • @diamond66ist
    @diamond66ist 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Lets be honest , Tamiyas main demographic is the middle aged man who in their youth either owned or wished they owned a Tamiya, its a nostalgia thing , in order to make these kits perform anything better than a child's toy (new shocks/bearings / drive shafts etc ) you spend enough money to buy an RTR from the many competitors out there ! Tamiya has always had the edge when it comes to the aesthetics and of course enjoyment in the build process but performance is not their thing.

    • @SyndicateRC
      @SyndicateRC 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      Tamiyas are cheap compared to Traxxas and others and you have to built it which is a lot of fun for some people. If you respect what they are, you can have a lot fun with them. Easy to work on, cheap to fix. You can upgrade them all but they were never designed for bashing or speed. I have some Traxxas, Arrmas and other Bashers and I love them but I love my Tamiyas as well. It's just something different.

    • @RC-Closer1313
      @RC-Closer1313 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree 100%… you would think Tamiya would have a Bad-ass vehicle in every class… they have been around long enough to “get it”… yet they don’t… odd

    • @rcchronicles25
      @rcchronicles25 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Tamiya have a niche place in the market and it works for them. If you've never built a monster truck from the bottom, including the gearbox with its plethora of cogs, you probably won't understand the attraction. Its very different to unboxing a Traxxas Slash and whacking it down the gravel 2 minutes later

    • @1982ozark

      Tamiya is the Nintendo of the RC world and I love it. Love the nostalgia and love that their not trying to be Traxxas. Some might not get it but for an 80's kid like me they're the best.

    • @Glowingtomato
      @Glowingtomato 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I don't have any nostalgia for them and built up 11 kits. I do swap out the bushings and friction shocks and usually put in a slightly bigger motor. For me the fun is seeing something you built from a box of parts zip around.
      They also do a bunch of licensed bodies which I love since I was into making static models before RC.

    I love Tamiya but why, why, why do they keep clinging to the idea of friction 'pogo stick' so called shocks? Total garbage and the first thing to replace in ANY of their kits. That along with bearings. Even the crappiest chin knockoff rc's are coming with oil shocks and bearings nowadays Somebody at Tamiya really needs to get a clue. What would it add to the kit price? like 5 or 10 bucks to include plastic body oil dampers. Come on Tamiya! wtf. You can see i the running video the thing bouncing all over the place on those horrid springs. OIL SHOCKS TAMIYA! COME ON.
