  • Hope you enjoy this video following a super easy recipe for Nasturtium Jelly! Nasturtiums are such a wonderful plant - the leaves, flowers and seed pods are all edible, but the flowers are by far my favourite to experiment with.

    Makes a strong Antibiotic tincture, dry for tea, i add to everything or make a huge side salad dish with olive oil salt n pepper. Our leaves are big like my hand so want to use as wraps.

    ❤️❤️❤️ much ❤️ from Ireland, chewing at least 3 leaves a day will clear a chesty cough. Flowers I love on my tuna salad 🥰

    I am trying this recipe now! I just want to add in for whoever is trying this that you should pay attention to what kind of pectin you use (powder vs liquid, as you add the powdered pectin to the mixture BEFORE boiling, but with liquid pectin you add at the very end)! my flowers are steeping now. can’t wait to see how it turns out!

    hello! I am about to try this as the nasturtiums are taking over the garden this year - there have been so much rain here in Quebec! May I suggest you use a white plate to show us the texture of the jelly - while your plate is gorgeous, it was difficult to see the jelly - dark on dark! thanks so much for this!

    You could add ROSE liquid flavouring (come in small bottles bit like food colouring or vanilla essence and use the nasturtium jam/syrup as a sort of cheaper carrier for ROSE which i find is a lot more liked and versatile than nasturtiums.) Theres others like orange and peppermint etc which would be fun to try too.

    Thank you for this! I will definitely make. We are at the end of season now..I'll have to see if I have enough left. I plan to make this as a chia jelly..chip is the substitute for pectin. It's healthy too. Will see if it works for nasturtium too. I use it for fruit jellies alot, so do t know why it wouldn't work for this too :). Thanks again

      There's (at least) 2 varieties. I buy both lol but they mark the ones that are edible. Just read the package. For all I know they all are edible, but I go by that.

    I have grown them around my garden in the USA for decades to draw aphids from the garden and repel some pests. I am thinking of trying to make capers with them but your jelly is intriguing. Not doing anything yet….they are just seedlings now.

      They really attract the aphids! I hope the little girls stay on the nasturtiums, not the veggies!

    This is so interesting. One of my favourite plants to grow in the cooler season where I live. Love the peppery flavour and the Vitamin C it provides. Keep on rocking the garden!

    Theres usually ball brand pection jar at big w. Or better online in bulk you can usually find citric acid and pectin etc to replace lemon juice and fruit peel/core pectin.

    My method would be to warm the sugar at the same time as the jars, add the pectin to the sugar, mix it in and then add to the jelly. Looks like a good and easy recipe. Thanks for sharing.

    Spicy and peppery jelly is hit and miss for me.

      It sounds like it would be peppery but this jelly is super sweet and not spicy at all despite how the flowers taste raw. When heated in the tea it takes all that spice away 🥰

    Have you tried making a sugar free jam? Or like a sweetener free one. I love presercing stuff but i find i end up freezing 80 percent and drying the rest because bot only is it quicker but i dont have to add sugar and salt which defeats the purpose of saving fresh healthy organic food.

    I will try - my favorite jelly is beautyberry jelly stirred into plain yogurt then sprinkled with bran flakes over top. This looks like something that would be good that way, also. Is it more peppery like a mint jelly or sweet like a berry jelly? I wonder how the leaves would do or do you know?

      mary w Oooh that sounds delicious! Definitely will try it with yoghurt. It’s definitely more sweet like a berry jelly ☺️ haven’t done too much with the leaves other than eat fresh in salads and as a base for mine quiches ☺️

    As much as id prefer to use kilner since they are suppose to be aussie owned and possibly made theyre more expensive than the US ones and often harder to find and have less options.

      It's definitely worth giving a go! I think it may be a little sweet for cheese. Although you could always play around with the recipe and add less sugar or combine other ingredients such as quince for a more 'savoury' flavour :)

    i don’t like nasturtium, i grew it last year loved the flowers but it tasted so funny to me :/ like peppery earthy soap
